We've been using WSSv3 for a couple weeks, and just last week, the Search
service stopped updating the index -- I can search and find stuff indexed
previously, but at a certain point, the index is no longer getting updated
(for any site). I've restarted the WSSv3 Search service, made sure there
were no apparent problems with the Search database, and even restarted the
WSSv3 server. My WSSv3 server is connecting to a separate box running SQL
Server 2000.

Through Central Administration, I've confirmed the Search service is
configured correctly, and that the content database is correctly configured
to use the search service on the WSSv3 server.

I'm seeing the following two event log entries occasionally:

Event Type: Error
Event Source: Windows SharePoint Services 3 Search
Event Category: Search service
Event ID: 10038
Date: 6/12/2006
Time: 7:04:07 AM

Event Type: Error
Event Source: Windows SharePoint Services 3 Search
Event Category: Search service
Event ID: 10040
Date: 6/12/2006

Anyone have any ideas?

Hello Patrick,

did you find what was the error? I'm currently seeing the same errors,

PS Performed a reboot and everything started to work but I don't think this
is something I would like to do often ...

Actually, I completed turned off the Search service, deleted the existed
Search databases, and then turned it all back on again... and it works now
(and has been for a few weeks).
