Hi,

We want to start employees to submit online leave forms. To do this We have
enable Three stat workflow and created choices option. However, all users
have read access to this document library which means they cannot edit this
leave form.

What sort of rights should I give to users so that they can submit this
document for approval.

I have had a look at all the permission levels but dont want to give users
to give too much control. If you can suggest me the right direction.

Inshort I need users only to submit leave forms.

You could take the easy way out and put these online leave forms in a
(new) second document library in which they naturally have Contributor
rights. (and have the wrokflow on that doc lib)

Thank Mike. I just had another thought too. If I give all users contributor
rights to the second document Library then everybody will be able to see each
others leave forms.

Is there any of overcoming this issue?

Good point. Pity there is no "see only own documents" option for Libraries.

Well you could have them give each document its own permissions but that
seems going too far.

I suspect there's a solution somewhere in the workflow mechanism itself.
But I haven't myself any more ideas (good or bad).

Anyone ?

Hi Mike,

One last question. SInce we want start this workflow process where a users
submits a leave form and it should email this document to the manager. Would
WSS do this basic stuff or should I be looking at third party tools.

If I have to look at third party tools would sharepoint designer be able to
do this?

Any comments on this would be appreciated.

My experience when using SPD workflows is that they are remarkably easy
to do and are *much* more powerful and flexible than anything you can do
with the three stage workflow included in WSS 3.0.

A copy of SPD 2007 is cheap in comparison to both the total cost of your
WSS 3.0 system and in comparison with the cost of your time spent trying
to find a way round the restrictions of the built-in workflow.

Having it also means you can created Data View Web Parts; make CSS
changes etc.etc.

No administrator should be without it. But to go back to the start - I
can't say outright if SPD 2007 can do this but the chances are good.

If you want to be sure post a direct question in the
.design_and_customization group which is the newsgroup for SPD 2007
questions.

Sharepoint Designer workflow is probably the best (easiest) way to go.
Install SPD, download the custom SPD actions from Codeplex (http://
www.codeplex.com/SPDActivities) then use the Grant Permission on Item
action from within the workflow to give only the Item>Creator read
permission.
