in the help for Usage Analysis processing, it states :
"In the Number of log files to create box, type a value for the number of
log files to keep per Web application. When that number of log files are
reached, no more files are created until some are deleted."

Does this mean I have to manually delete the log files (or automate with a
scheduled task) or else logs won't be gathered?
I find that hard to believe, but I don't know.

I'm also disappointed to read that stats are only kept for 3 months! I
guess it's a space issue, but that doesn't sound like that much to me.

Hello JJ,

The number you specified in that box is the number of log files you can
created. WSS did not generate one log file for each HTTP reqeust.

When you use multiple log files, the log files are created at the same time
and all hits from one Web site are contained in the same log file.

So that means you don't need to delete the log file and all hits will be
logged in the log file.

I'm afraid that I don't quite understand your response.
Is the # we put in there the max number of logs that will be created per web
application?

I don't understand this comment:
"When you use multiple log files, the log files are created at the same time
and all hits from one Web site are contained in the same log file. "

Does the system create X empty log files per web application, then fill the
log files daily? When does the system start using another log file (is it
daily?)

Thanks

Hello JJ,

For the first question, the number we put is the max number of logs that
will be created for the whole Sharepoint Server Farm.

The System create will create the log files and fille the log files daily.
All hits from one web site are contained in the same log file.

Multiple log file always use for a Server farm deployment. Considering a
Web Farm contain sevearal web sites. Each hit that the web server receives
uses approximately 200 bytes in a log file. As a result, approximate 200
megabytes(MB) of RAM are used to memory map a log file taht contains a
million hits. Using the multiple log file will make the memory footprint
smaller and enhance the performance.

Hope this helps.

Sincerely,
