    - Add new user In my WSS site when I want add a new user ,before adding I must define the user (username and password)in active directory.If I do not define user before adding I get these error message " user does not exist".(Im using Domain Account Mode for WSS site) Is there any felexsible way that does not need to define users before adding.and add user in our domain without need before definition?     - Can't view documents I just encountered the strangest problem I've seen yet with WSS. I have a single user who has contributer rights to a site through membership with an Active Directory Group called "Corporate Engineering." All users of this group other than this particular user can use the site fine and without issue. However, when this particular user clicks on the name of the document to open it, either in the web part or the document library itself, his navigation results in a blank IE window with the "image not found" icon in the top left corner. (The white square with the red x in it). The only way the user can see the document is by going to "edit properties" and clicking the "Open in Microsoft Excel" button. This would be an acceptable workaround if it weren't for the PDF's, CAD drawings and other non-office documents that he needs access to.     - archiving/moving discussion board content to "inactive" discussion We're using Sharepoint Services on W2K3 as kind of a "blog" to discuss prepartion of projects, ad campaigns, and trade show booths. Our company exhibits at a couple of trade shows that are held twice a year (fall/spring, winter/summer, or east/west coast). So we'll have a discussion for Trade Show A Summer 2005, Trade Show A Winter 2005, Trade Show A Summer 2004, and similar discussions for the others. Once a trade show has passed, the marketing director wants to remove that discussion from the active discussion board, but keep it on the site in an "Archived Discussions" board so they can go back when needed to see why things were done the way they were the last time, or who handled which aspects of prep.     - Problem running Top-Level website I have a virtual installation of Server 2003 Web using Virtual PC 2004 with Office SharePoint Portal Server 2003 installed. I was able to setup (or extend) a local virtual server as a top level site and point at an Sql 2000 installation on another machine. However, after choosing a template (any template I have found) and browseing to the default home of the top level site, I get the following error: =========================== An unexpected error has occurred. Web Parts Maintenance Page: If you have permission, you can use this page to temporarily disable Web Parts or remove personal settings. For more information, contact your site administrator. Troubleshoot issues with Windows SharePoint Services. =========================== When I check the application event log I see the following two errors: "The safe mode service of Windows SharePoint Services has failed to initialize because of an unknown error." Followed by: "Request failed." I've tried messing with permissions, but everything more or less has domain administrator access ...     - Adding javascript to Default.aspx? Hello, I'm trying to quickly get a new WSS site up for our company. Our company has numerous websites that use the same header (which is either inherited in an asp.net app or embedded with an asp page using javascript for asp pages). I'm trying to do the same thing on a WSS page using FrontPage (I'm new to Frontpage, I'm used to VS.NET v2002). I tried just putting the javascript tag at the top but this doesn't seem to do anything. The other thing that confuses me is where the WSS pages are running from? When I look under C:\Inetpub, I don't see a corresponding site for my pages. And when I look in IIS I also don't find any corresponding sites.     - Extranet Deployment with Remote SQL Sorry, I have done this before but I got a braincramp and forgot the procedure: Im setting up an External Site for a company inside there DMZ (NO COnnection to Internal Users). AD and WSS will be in the "Blue Zone" and there is a seperate SQL Server in the DMZ that is part of a workgroup. How can i set up the authentication to allow WSS and the workgroup SQL box to communicate with each other for the WSS databases. Currently I have set this up in a test VM setting using the "Network Service" as the communication link. Thoughts..??     - Organizing site collection I would appreciate online references to information to study relative to best practices when planning the organization of site collections. I would like to understand what the issues are to take into consideration when deciding whether to make sites parallel in the hierarchy or subordinate to another site, etc. For example, we have the need to have one site be "public" in the sense our entire organization needs access to documents and information on that site developed for policy and procedure documentation. Then the department itself needs a private site for its intra-departmental procedures. Someone else set up the sites and made the public site a sub-site of the private site. My gut tells me that's a bad design since it prevents a public visiter from taking advantage of the site navigation provided by the links in the upper-right corner that traverse the hierarchy.     - Trying to input a chart based on list numbers I am not a developer. I have been tasked, however, to create a chart that looks something like one of those thermometer type of gauges that charities use to illustrate how much money they have taken in vs. their goal. In our case, we are migrating systems to AD all over the world. Management does not want to open all the regional lists to check status. These lists keep a running total as we enter a completion date each day. I have tried to use an excel spreadsheet, but I can't get it to save the results entered by everyone and it was a second manual entry for our engineers who extra data entry. Has anyone created such an animal before? It seems like a common enouh type of request. Any advice would be graciously accepted. Let me know if I haven't been clear about the requirements.     - Currency in Sharepoint Lists Hi There, I need to provision for a currency field in a Sharepoint list - the problem is however, that the currency that i would like to use is not available for selection in the currency drop-down list (the currency is Uganda Shillings - UGX). Is there anyway to extend these lists, and to add extra currencies in there? I have also changed the Regional Settings on the server to reflect the correct currency but this did not have any effect on the availability of this currency in the drop-down list. Thanks!     - Error accessing drop down menus I am using Microsoft Small Business Server, Microsoft Office 2003 and Windows XP on all my client computers. I created a timesheet list that uses drop down menus to â??look upâ?? information from other lists. I load this in Outlook 2003 by creating a new folder in the mail section. Then setting the homepage of the folder to the url of the employee's timesheet in Sharepoint. Some computers can access it fine. Of these there are two desktops directly connected to the server, one desktop remotely connected to the server (http connection). On certain computers (including two laptops remotely accessing the url via http or vpn, one desktop remotely connected via http and one desktop directly connected to the server). When a user tries to use a drop down there is no data in the list, it is completely blank. Then, if the user clicks the â??refresh dataâ?? option in the sharepoint window an an error message pops up saying: â??The datasheet view is attempting to retrieve data from a different domain. You will be redirected to an error page. Contact your system administrator to resolve this error.â?? When the user clicks â??OKâ?? the page changes to another sharepoint page titled â??Errorâ?? and has the following message: â??The list cannot be displayed in Datasheet view for one or more of the following reasons: A datasheet component compatible with Windows Sharepoint Services is not installed, your browser does not support ActiveX controls, or support for ActiveX controls is disabled.â?? If I then select â??Homeâ?? on the sharepoint menu, then select â??Documents and Listsâ??, then select the timesheet I was trying to use, the drop down lists now become available.     - Alerts triggered by a view Hello, I have a document library setup. Within that library, I have custom colums created. For example, when a user uploads a document, they have to choose a status which includes Final, Draft, or Pending Review. I created a custom view within that library to display only those documents that are labeled Pending Review. What I would like to accomplish is have a email be sent using alerts whenever a user submits a document that its status is Pending Review. I tried creating an alert on the view that shows only the pending review docs but that is not possible. It will report on the whole library. Any Suggestions?     - Question root site I have set-up Sharepoint Team Services on our external server. THe virtual server is off the root of IIS. I create mutiple sites off that root like, marketing, engineering, intranet etc...They are all equal and each of them have sub-webs....The problems at each root site the navigation bar at top as an "up to team site" that navigates to a root site http://wwwroot .     - Document properties not updating the library metadata I thought I new the mechanism for Office document properties and the way Document library metadata is updated but this one is foxing me .. If I create a new document from the 'New Document' link in the library, i.e. use the template; save the document and populate some metadata from the dialogue box that appears; When I return to the library, none of the properties have been updated, not even mandatory ones. Now if I edit the document and look at the properties in Word - They are still there - fully populated!, and if I try again to change them they do not get updated in the library. If I use any other method to add a document to the library, everything is fine ?!? i.e. use the Upload feature to add a document then play with the properties it is as expected.     - Can _layouts/1033/*.aspx files be customised I have been customizing some of the files on my SharePoint sub-site using FrontPage 2000 (I don't have 2003) such as ../SharedDocuments/Forms/AllItems.aspx.     - Migrating user listings to AD groups I currently have a WSS site structure with over 200 individual user listings. I would like to be able to create a listing of users and their applied roles, so that I could move them into the correct AD groups. Any idea how to do this? I can use STSADM with the ENUMUSERS command, but that doesn't show their roles on the site. I also took a brief look at the SQL table structure, but I couldn't seem to find anything valuable there.     - Adding the announcements web part to a document workspace I am trying to add the announcements web part to a document web space, but am unable to get it to work so far. I am signed in as the site administrator. I select Modify This Workspace under the search window on the main page of the document workspace. This web part is not listed in the first list of web parts presented, so I select show all lists. A longer list of web parts is presented to me, this list has the announcements web part. I select the announcements web part from this list. I am then asked to enter the Name and Description, which I do, I leave the Share List Across All Meetings set to No.and then I click on Create. Then the page is presented that shows any current announcements and I can add or edit them. So I add an announcement. This page is labeled for the document workspace I am in. The new announcement appears on the list, on the page where announcements are added and edited. Now I select Home which returns me to the first page of the document webspace but the web part I just created including the announcement I just entered is not visible. What do I need to do to get the announcements webpart I just set-up to display on the first page of the document workspace?     - Correct userinfo in WSS workspace I have implemented Project Server 2003, and have just rolled out to users. An administrator of a Project WSS workspace added a user through the "Manage Users" navigation, but inadvertently added the user with the wrong domain info, the admin got the e-mail address correct for the new user and the display name. In order to correct the mistake I have removed the user from the Workspace and tried re-adding him with the correct data. Problem is when the user shows up in the users list he shows as still having the worng domain (and of course the user can't access the site). I went poking around in the STS database and found the user information in a table named UserInfo. The user shows up twice in this table, once for each domain. I think this is causing the user to not be able to access even other WSS workspaces, even though in these other workspaces when the user was added, he was added the first time with the correct domain info.     - Can I receive an email so that I know there is something to approve? I have set up an Issues List in WSS and have the "content approval" flag set to yes. When a user posts an issue is shows up properly as "pending", but unless I look every day I wouldn't know that there are pending items. In most cases an administrator enters the items in the list, so their items always show as approved... This works fine and I wouldn't want an email to go out on this since no one needs to approve. Does the Issues List provide functionality to send out an email when a pending item is submitted? Are there other ways to make this happen? was installed.

Full text search inbox, doesn't appear. I triy to repeat SQL upgraded, But
third radio buton "Upgrade istallation" is not avaliable.

I belive that when i upgrade to SQL the first time, the "full-text search"
check box wasnt' checked.

Â¿Â¿ is it possible to arrange it??

You can go to Services and make sure that Full Text Search which has almost
certainly been installed is set to run (which it perhaps isn't as it's known
that sometimes upgrades turn it off).
