Just recently Microsoft went and introduced the fabulous Shadow Copy feature
to its Windows Server 2003 shared folders. A late feature (absent in NT 4.0
and 2000 networks), I must say. At last people can easily undelete their
files from the shares. Phew... Much less work and fear to administrators...
I still have that fear, that I get a call, and have to go to the serverroom
and spend there an hour winding that tape.

However... The business drives focus away from files on shares towards doc
management systems like Sharepoint Services. Now again Microsoft is late --
it's the 2nd iteration of Sharepoint services and Microsoft does not have a
tool for undeleting files from a database. Is there any planned? What do you
use for undeleting from Sharepoint? Expenses go to third party tools?

I work for a company that writes some software that sits on top of WSS. It
provides a "Recycle Bin" option for Document Libraries.

The name of the product is Teamcenter Community. You can find general
information here, http://www.ugs.com/products/teamcenter/. There's a 3MB
"What TCC adds to WSS" PDF file here,
http://www.ugs.com/products/teamcenter/docs/wp_community_.pdf.

I'm not a salesperson, so I have no information on pricing or anything.

Hope that helps,
tk

In addition to Todd's company there are also small backup companies that
offer item level restore (see the WSS FAQ section VII). There's also a
product from SharePoint Experts (see same page). Finally people in the
newsgroup have posted their own solutions using scripts to save copies of
documents away from the document libraries (search this newsgroup)
