Hello!

I have a custom list that is rather large, about 40 fields, and there =
are 20 entries so far in this list, and when I try to add another entry, =
i get this error:

The list item could not be added because the length of the fields was =
too long. Please shorten the new entries or remove some fields from =
this list.
It is WSS 2003 on Windows 2003 Server, using MSDE2000.=20

The limits on the number of *fields* are in an item in the WSS FAQ. I've not
seen this message when adding *entries* however.

Note a few abbrieviations.

a) There is no WSS 2003 - it's either just WSS or WSS 2.0 but this latter is
not really necessary except in some official MS papers.

b) The default database is WMSDE not MSDE as it is a special version of MSDE
for WSS. The 2000 is also not needed as there is only one WMSDE.
