Anyone know of a good treeview web part for navigating folders in document
libraries, or should i try to write my own?

Jeff,

You can simply enter the URL of the document library into Windows Explorer
and manage the folders and files that way.
That would be better than any web part any day... at least that's my
thought...

Hope this is helpful.

Thanks
C

There is an excellent new webpart for document libraries at
http://www.professionalsharepoint.com/dle

This is one of the best webparts I've seen, providing a windows
explorer-type treeview with a file viewer and you can also use it to move
files around!!!

Unfortunately this isn't free.

Put also my suspicious mind at rest and say that you don't have anything to
do with company.

To Jeff: there are a couple of free web parts available that offer a certain
amount of tree view - Essentials by Jan Tielens includes one and the one
listed after that in section VII of the WSS FAQ is another one (called
"Navigator" something I think).

What does it matter if he works for the company. The request was for a
tree-view control, and there was no requirement that it be free.

But it is good to know that free ones do exist. I keep forgetting that. I get
three hits when I search my blog with Google using the term "tree view"

If he works for the company he should say so (similarly having posting a
glowing report if he doesn't have any connection)

As they are so many free web parts out there, I also prefer it if people
point out how much a web part costs if it isn't free - it saves me for one
looking it up!

If Luke is using it, he ought to know how much it costs ! (unless of course
....)

While its a cool webpart... at $695 its a bit much... It took me about five
minutes to figure out how much it costs. The pricing is buried on purpose
in my opinion.

Well at least it was there (somewhere). Some companies have "call for
pricing" which seems to me to destroy the idea of having a web site ...

Thanks for letting the thread readers know the price.

Anyone know of a webpart similiar to this one that allows you to look at
multiple document libaries at once and merges all the documents into one
list (using user's security)?

Similiar to the Corasworks rollup webpart but for less money than the
$14,000 or so they charge.

Jeff, I recommend that folks avoid folders in a doc library. It really
limits what you can do with the library later.

Instead, it's better to add one or more columns for the type of document,
then use views to filter or group documents. The only limitation there is
that grouping is limited to two levels in a "tree-view" type form.

Check out pages 31 and 40 in
http://usingsharepoint.com/Samples/Essential%20SharePoint%20Preview.pdf.

Mike,

I don't actually work for the company but I do know the guy who's behind the
development. As a result I've been actively involved in the beta testing
from the start and so have a good knowledge of the product, and feel rightly
justified in giving it a good review.

I have no idea what they are going to charge as it has only just been
launched, but I have informed Paul of this thread and he should be able to
shed some light.

Re: Treeview for document libraries by Paul

Firstly thank you all for the interest so far in my new web part.

The web site has just been launched in the last few days, but there have
been a few technical issues relating to billing etc and so the whole site
section related to pricing and purchase was deliberately hidden. I didn't
see the point in taking the whole website down just because of this, and so
have continued to let users download a trial until these issues are
resolved.

The price of the web part is $695 USD. Several months development and
testing has gone into this product and am quite proud of the fact that the
result has been what I believe to be a very useful and, very importantly,
robust piece of software. It has been developed in response to many of my
enterprise clients asking for the features available, and overall they are
much happier paying $695 for a product than the many thousands of dollars
they would otherwise spend paying a developer for the time required to write
an equivalent web part.

I hope this clears things up, and I apologise if the lack of pricing
information has caused anyone any inconvenience.

Any further questions can be directed to me at
