Hi David,

From your description, the problem you encounter here is an extended Task
in WSS will send notify email to an unrelated address, correct?

as for the unrelated address, is it stored or referenced somewhere in the
task or any of your custom code? Also, for the email address format, is
there any association between the expected email address and the unrelated
one?

Based on my experience, if the problem is not defintely happening and
occurs sporadically, it would be quite difficult to troubleshoot. I suggest
you try isolate or simplify the problem situation so as to make it a
definite problem that is always reproable.

Sincerely,

Steven Cheng

The problem is regularly occuring.
The unrelated address appears to be chosen at random from the site
collection user list - some of the 'victims' are not explicitly named in the
subsite or list permissions.
The problem only occurs on this list.
The email addresses are all local to our domain.
That is the only commonality.
In the example given our Operations group all received notifications that a
task assigned to a small subset of a departmental team's task changed.
The formatting was stripped from the post, but the notice showed the
Operations group with a strikethrough indicating that they had previously
been assigned to the task and removed.
But the assignemnt never occurred.

Thanks for your reply David,

Based on the further issue description, I'll do some further research and
consult some other WSS engineers to see whether they have some experienced
on such issue. I'll inform you whenever I get some update on this.

Sincerely,

Steven Cheng

Additional Information.
I can recreate this issue on a new list with Assign to: allowing multiple
assignments to individuals and groups.
The issue does not occur all the time but at least 2/5 times.

Additional Information.
I can recreate this issue on a new list with Assign to: allowing multiple
assignments to individuals and groups.
The issue does not occur all the time but at least 2/5 times.
