Search icons not showing
We upgraded to WSS v3 and when we do a search, no icons are showing up
next to the results. The results still work but the images to the
left do not show up. I noticed in the html of the search results page
that the img src tag for the icon is empty (""). See the source below
as an example of the returned html.
<span class="srch-Icon">
<a href="path to result" id="CSR_IMG_1" title="path to result">
<img align="absmiddle" src="" border="0" alt="Item icon" />
</a>
</span>
Our test environment does not have any issues. Also, I have verified
that the necessary images are in _layouts/images. Finally, I was able
to open up one of the images such as _layouts/images/STS_List16.gif
directly in the address bar. Anyone have any ideas how to fix this?
This looks really bad to the end user.
Thanks,

Database Question
Hello,
I am trying to find out if there is a way to take data created in
SharePoint and move it to an external custom datbase (i.e. SQL, not
Access).
My boss's grand vision to take task or other list data, with attached
files and documents, and somehow magically move it with one click into
an external custom database. The end goal is to have that data then
replicated up to a different database that we do not control.
From what I have read in my research I'm not sure if this is even
possible. How would you move native SharePoint data out of SharePoint?
If someone knows of a way that this would be doable, or knows of a
third-solution that would render this capability, any information is
much appreciated. Tag: Surveys Tag: 64634
Server Adminstrators & SharePoint
Hi All,
I have an issue that i would appreciate some help on.
As i understand it, if you are a local administrator on a SharePoint server
(like server techs usually are) you are given implied administrative access
to SharePoint from an application perspective also .
Can anyone confirm this?
Also, if a site administrator is concerned about protecting particular
business documentation from such people how do they go about locking them
out? Is this possible? Have tried in the normal fashion, but it appears there
local admin kicks in and their SharePoint permissions overrided.
Any thoughts?

missing workflow from 2.0 to 3.0 migration
A few months ago we migrated a WSS 2.0 site to WSS 3.0 and now want to
use the workflow built into WSS 3.0. However when we go to a settings
page (Document library Settings) we see no "Workflow Settings" in the
list to allow us to use workflows. In our development environment,
which was a "clean" install of WSS 3.0, all the workflow stuff seems
to be there. I have run the WSS 3.0 admin and config tool on the
offending server and it shows workflow settings under "Application
Management", and we have set our production box exactly like our
development box, but to no avail. Anyone have any ideas as to why we
don't have workflows available? Some migration problem we are not
aware of? Anything? Tag: Surveys Tag: 64632

Shared Workspaces Word pane... some questions
I have some general questions regarding the Shared Workspaces pane:
1. Is it a property of Office 2003+ only? In other words, does the
pane oocur in previous versions of Office?
2. Is there a way to deactivate the pane permanently on the Sharepoint
side?
I've read on how to deactivate the pane on the Word side. But the
behavior is still unpredictable. For example we have the shared doc
Word behavior (Tools | Options | General tab | Service Options button
| Shared Workspace option) of the shared doc set to "Never prompt" yet
a prompt still appears on close.
If I need to take this question elsewhere (i.e. a Word group), I
apologize in advance.
And any help is greatly appreciated. Tag: Surveys Tag: 64614
Update User Info
Hello,
We are running wss3 and notice that when a user is created in
SharePoint the wrong email address is entered into SharePoint.
When our AD accounts are created there are more than one email address
associated with the account. We would like it to assume one of the
other email accounts associated with the account.
I know I can go in and manually change every user, but to do this
would be crazy. How do I go about updating these email address's
either programmatically or through an update via sql?
I have seen other posts reference the userinfo table, which i have
done some experimenting with. I have tried changing the data in the
table manually, but i don't see it reflect within SharePoint.
Anyone have any ideas on how I can make this work?
Thanks. Tag: Surveys Tag: 64607
Custom workflow deployment
Hi,
I developed a workflow using WF and have some problem on deployment. If I
install the assembly in GAC it works fine, but now I want to use custom
policy, so I copy the assembly into the virtual server Bin folder, create a
custom policy based on WSS_Medium template, and then modify web.config
accordingly; but it doesn't work and failed in the workflow initialization
page.
The same method works for web part, but not workflow! I set almost all the
permission to be Unrestricted but still doesn't work. I'm pretty sure its
related to the security, as if I change trust level to Full in web.config
file, it works immediately.
Does anydoby know what went wrong? Is it possible to deploy custom workflow
assembly to application Bin folder without Full trust enabled?
thanks in advance. Tag: Surveys Tag: 64606
Recover default.apsx file
Hi
We are running Windows SharePoint Service 2 SP2.
One of our developers was editing the defaul.aspx file of one of our
sharepoint sites and accidentaly overwrote the wrong file.
Luckily there was a slightly older version of the same file on the site and
we were able to quickly update this file. However it has led to the debate
of "What if there had not been a slightly older version of this file" on the
site.
We do daily backups of our SQL 2000 server that contains the SharePoint
database plus daily backups of our web server.
How would we have recovered a single file?
Can anyone please point me in the right direction.

SharePoint Drafts folder
Hello,
I have recently released WSS3.0 to our company, we are also using MSOffice
pro 2003. I have enable versioning on all of of our document libraries so
users must checkout a document to edit it.
My problem is that when you check out a document from Sharepoint it is
supposed to keep a local copy of that document in the Sharepoint drafts
folder within the my documents folder on the local computer and this folder
is not showing up in the my documents folder.
Does anyone know how I can enable this folder?

Lost controls and styles after installing WSS SP1.
Hi,
After installing WSS SP1, the pages within all of my sites have become bland
html pages. There are no longer any controls on the pages such as dropdown
or treeview controls and there are no styles applied.
What could have happened and more importantly, how do I fix it?
Thanks for any help with this.

Please can you help me with updating lists from another list using
(I apologise for any stupidity contained in the following post. I am
resorting to groups after hours of messing about on sharepoint)
Hi
(I am running MS office sharepoint designer 2007 trial. Full version
is on the way. Windows sharepoint services 2 WSS is on the server)
I am having a nightmare with sharepoint. I am using lists and
workflows to set up a new starter process for HR and IT on our
intranet. As you may tell from my (possibly daft) question I have only
just started using it. I have ebooks and other resources at hand, but
they aren't that great. I would be greatful for any help with this
What I am trying to do:
-I have set up a workflow that starts when a new item is added to list
A (which I want)
-This workflow should take 3 bits of data from list A (3 seperate
fields) and create a list item in list B and then update that same
data into fields in list B
e.g.
LIST A has 3 columns
(key: column name - data in column)
col1 - A
col2 - B
col3 - C
LIST B has 3 columns
(key: column name - data in column)
col4 -
col5 -
col6 -
The workflow will trigger when a new item is created and will creaste
a new entry in List B, as well as putting "A" in col4, "B" in col5 and
"C" in col6.
Final questions
1. Am I wrong trying to do this with lists? Should I be getting
infopath and using it as a form with infopath as my XML editor? Is it
at all possible?
2. I thought for a second that I set up list B wrong. Should I be
adding the columns from list A to the settings of list B? I couldnt
work out how to do this - but it would make sense to me to do that, as
it is clear you are taking data from the same field, except this field
sits in another list?
ANY help would be much appreciated Tag: Surveys Tag: 64578
WSS 3.0, Office 2007 and Vista problem
Hi,

Even though I'm logged into the site with my domain user account, I'm still
prompted for my credentials, THREE times. And still the document opens in
read only mode.
I've got the workspace linked to Outlook, and when I try to open it from
outlook, the document will open fine, but the "edit offline" button must be
pushed before I can edit the document. After editing the document I'm asked
if I want to sync my changes with the server copy, if I say yes, I'm prompted
for my credentials, THREE times and still denied the ability to update the
server copy.
Another nagging problem is that every time I bring the teamsite up I have to
change my login from administrator to my domain account! Used to keep my
domain account as the default but no longer. I could live with these
challenges, but it has manifested itself across three separate installations
of Office 2007 ad Vista business on three deifferent machines.
Office Sharepoint Server is installed on a Windows Server 2003 enterprise
machine, with SP2 installed. The server is a member of the SBS 2003 domain.
It is one of two servers in the Sharepoint farm, the other being the Domain
controller to handle outgoing mail services. SQL Server 2005 Standard is the
database behind it.
Can anyone point me in the right direction to the solution for correcting
these niggling problems?
TIA,

New database location SharePoint
I have backed up my SharePoint databases in SQL on one server and restored
them (also using SQL) to a new server.
I have created a new application (with a new content db) and added my

What do I need to do at this point to be able to see my old content? Tag: Surveys Tag: 64562
SharePoint Parser Error
I have a SharePoint Services 3.0 Farm consisting of two web servers and a SQL
2005 backend. Up until Monday, my Sharepoint sites were working.
However, now when I try to open a Sharepoint website, I am getting the
following message in my browser (see below).
I have tried repairing SharePoint Services, but this has not helped. .Net
Framework 3.0 SP1 was installed on 12/6.
Anyone with any suggestions?
Thank you,

I can go into central administration but when I try to remove block files or

Why will it not recognize anything I do. Supposedly I am recognized as an

Error Upgrading to MOSS 2007 - Help!
Greetings, I'm encountering an error while going thru a test run of a
MOSS 2007 gradual upgrade within our dev environment (I took a copy of
our SharePoint
2003 production enviroment and implemented it here). The error occurs
when I'm upgrading the root web application. Here are the steps I do
to get to this
error:
Open SharePoint 3.0 Central Administration
Click on "Operations"
Click on "Site content upgrade status"
Only check the root ("/") checkbox
Click the "Upgrade Sites" button
Click the "Upgrade Sites" button again
The upgrade runs for a few minutes and then this pops up..
Please refer to the upgrade log at C:\Program Files\Common Files
\Microsoft Shared\Web Server Extensions\12\Logs\Upgrade.log and the
trace log for additional
information.
Status - Job failed
Mode - Side-By-Side
Starting Object - SPMigratableSiteCollection Parent=SPManager
When I got to the Application Event Log there is this entry...

WSS 3.0 VS 2005 JIT Debugger: an unhandled win32 exception occurred
I started seeing this error:
Visual Studio Just-in-Time Debugger: an unhandled win32 exception
occurred in iexplore.exe (<Some Process ID>)
on one of our client machines. It has Office XP and IE 6 on it.
While we are intending to upgrade all clients to Office 2007 when we
roll SharePoint out, I'd like to get to the bottom of this error,
because from what I've read it may not go away by simply upgrading
Office, and with a nearly a thousand employees, I don't want to have
to scramble to fix machines during the rollout. Most of the cases
I've found in the forums occur when a user tries to open an Office
document, but for us it occurs when the user simply clicks on an
Announcements, Calendar or tasks list link, even on a default out-of-
the-box WSS 3.0 team site. Oddly, some links work, but it appears as
though a link to any list will throw the exception.
I did try uninstalling and reinstalling Windows SharePoint Server
support as was mentioned in several places online, but since Office XP
was designed for SharePoint V1, this had no affect. Dueling DLLs does
sound like the issue, but which ones?

Gantt Chart Links Busted
Howdy,
I think this is one of the project application templates in WSS 3.0. When I
click on View my Tasks, i get a gantt chart and a list of the tasks below
it. One of the columns below is Project, which designates what project the
task is assigned to. Also, the tasks are grouped by project. Both this
column data and the group header links are incorrect. the links point to
/lists/projects/dispform.aspx?ID=1&RootFolder=*. The asterik is blowing up
the link. When I click on it I get "Cannot complete this action. Please try
again.".
So how do I fix this? I cannot edit the view in Sharepoint Designer say by
changing it to an XSLT dataview so I can manually override the links, oh no,
there's no option for that. I'm guessing the fact that it is a gantt chart
is what's stopping it. Gahhh!!

AutoCAD and Microstation

WSS 3.0 - Document "Send To" not working, but Document Workspace
I have a pretty strange problem here. On some client workstations,
the document "Send to" function does not work, no matter what
combination of servers (we have WSS in dev and production
environments, and I have another dev environment that is completely
separate from my client's domain). However, on other workstations
everything works fine.
But even on a problem workstation, all of this was working up until
recently.
Steps to reproduce:
1. From the document drop-down context menu, select Send to > Other
Location
2. From the _layouts/copy.aspx page, specify a URL to a SharePoint
document library.
3. Click OK.
A javascript error pop-up opens, but there is no text. It is
completely blank except for an "Ok" button, and the error icon.
However, if I create a document workspace, edit the document in the
workspace, and republish the changes to the source document, it works
just fine.
I believe it's a client problem with the copy dialog, though obviously
the server part is fine (it works from some clients, not others). On
the problem workstation, the site is in the intranet zone, and popups
are enabled. The client browser is IE 7.0.5730.11
Any ideas?
