    - URLs in Lists Hi All, I have a list that stores URLs to other sites in our SharePoint installation. Some of the links were written to the list as http://<internal>, while others were written as https://<fqdn>. Users internal to our network access SharePoint through the internal URL, while external users go in through the fully qualified domain name. When the list is displayed, what used to happen was, if the user was coming in externally, the links would all show up as https://<fqdn>. While if they were accessing it internally, the links would show up as http://<internal>. I've been trying to figure out what does this rewriting of the URLs, since they were all stored in the list as absolute URLs, some referencing the internal name of the server, some the external name. Moreover, we've just started noticing that newer list entries don't necessarily do this automatic rewriting of the URL, i.e., a lot of the newer links do not change depending on the server name used in the URL to access the list.     - Migrate Windows Sharepoint Services 3.0 to SQL Server 2005 Hi, Can anyone point me in the right direction for a step-by-step guide for migrating Windows Sharepoint Services 3.0 running on SSEE to SQL Server 2005?     - Send Link to a Document Doesn't Work My company is using WSS v3 and most users use Outlook 2003 for email. When someone clicks on the Edit Menu for a document and chooses Send -- > Email Link it opens up an outlook message with a url that looks like this: http:sharepoint%2Ecom/home/Shared%20Documents/doc1.doc This link doesn't work when somone clicks on it in the email, but if you copy it into Internet Explorer it works fine. It doesn't work if you copy the link into Firefox.     - WSS Project Server migration issues Hi-- we recently migrated sharepoint 2003 to a different server. since we migrated.......we are having issues with document libraries that were tied to project server. We cannot upload files to these document libraries unless using the Explorer View. Since we don't really want to use project server anymore-----we don't really want to install it. On the upload.aspx--the upload fails on some PWA javascript lines. I can't find anyplace to disassociate the document library from project server. Can anyone help?????? Mike Walsh????     - Site Collection Creation Error I am getting the next error message "Windows SharePoint Services version 2 templates are not supported in this version of the product" First of all, i am not working with version 2 templates. I created a sp2007 site template. Then i uploaded the .stp file via the stsadm tool I tried to create a new site collection , i choosed the name , my Custom template, and so on.     - Import data from Excel I have a form library in Sharepoint set up which uses an Infopath form. The data which will be stored in the form library will initially is currently loaded in an excel spreadsheet.     - Lost Central Administration Web? So I was trying to get something to work and went to the Central Admin Web, Services on Server and thought I'd to a Restart (stop/start) on the WSS Service. I clicked stop, The page came back as not found, then in IIS Manager, the Central Administration Web vanished. it was set up as a specific port and now there are no webs with that port or the old name. So I created a new Web, with the same port, and pointed it to the WSS Virtual Directory and its not letting me see the pages. Gives a 403, Forbidden. Help! Other sites seem to work fine.     - Installing top-level WSS 2.0 application template Hey all, I've done this many times before but I think I'm missing a crucial step and it is really frustrating me. I'm trying to install Microsoft's freebie template (Employee Activities) as a top-level WSS 2.0 site template. The template file is saved on the SPS server under C: \EmployeeActivities_Custom.stp. My command line command looks like this: C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\web server extensions \60\BIN> stsadm.exe -o addtemplate -filename <C: \EmployeeActivities_Custom.stp> -title <Employee Activities Custom> [- description <Custom Employees Activities>] When I hit enter, the command line says "The system cannot find the file specified".     - How do I split up a single WSS site into many WSS sites? Hi, I'm running an upgrade project to upgrade from WSS 2.0 to WSS 3.0, and as part of it I've been asked to split a single site into many smaller ones. The setup at the moment is we've got (amongst other ones) a Virtual Server with one site (with loads and loads of subsites) of 40GB (!) in one database which I would like to have on WSS 3.0 in at least two web applications with many top-level sites in each. Is there a tool for doing this? I've looked at WSS_Split, but that seems to be for moving top-level sites between content databases. The only way I can think of doing it at the moment is to manually move all the data to a new structure, which would be a little labourious! Thanks in advance, Tom.     - Installing WSS3 on Windows Server 2003 SP1 in 32 bit Emulation Mode We have 64 Bit Server running Windows Server 2003 SP1, we had to amend the IIS to run in 32 bit emulation mode so that our ASP.Net 2 Applications would run on the server. The problem is that now we cannot install WSS 3 on the server, the only way I can get WSS 3 on the server is to switch the IIS back to 64 bit and install the 64 bit edition of WSS . However, then our exisiting 32 bit ASP.NET Applications will not run. At present I cannot see how to install/run both WSS 3 and Asp.Net applications in 32 bit mode. It seems strange as all the other applications such as reporting services will run n 32 bit mode. Has anyone had the same issue or does anyone know if there is any way to get this configuration to work. Otherwise we might as well get rid of the 64 bit windows server 2003.     - show a list view in a customized web part Hi I am writing a web part where I want to show a contact list but use one of the views define for that contact list.     - controlling the toolbar types of web parts on the homepage My scenario. Using WSS 3.0, I adjusted the toolbar type and border of list web parts on the homepage. I also defined some custom views as the default views for list web parts on the homepage. I saved the site as an .stp. I created a new site based off of my .stp. The homepage of my newly created site reverts back to the the full toolbar for my web parts and it doesn't display my default views for the web parts that I specified in originally configured site. I know that in WSS 2.0, I never had any issues configuring and keeping the configuations when creating sites based off of a backed up .stp files. Does this not work in 3.0? I also tried to define a toolbar type and view for the list web parts on the homepage using my custom List Features but could not find a way to do this using Features, onet, or default.aspx either.     - Replacing default website on SPS 3.0 I want to replace the default website for an SPS 3.0 installation with a custom site defined template. If I go into Create a site the only option is to create one under the http://default/sites/enternewnamehere. I have done so once before, but for some reason can't seem to do so now. I am clearly going to the wrong options to perform this function. my http://default site is not in existence at the moment because yesterday i deleted it, and replaced it, then deleted again to tweak the custom definitiion, but for some reason i guess i forgot overnight... or something is really squirrley here... how can i do this?     - MOSS 2007 Workflow copy error Hi, I have a form document library which contains an Infopath 2007 web form template that a user fills out and submits to the library. There is a workflow in place that once the forms have had content approval they are to be copied to another form document library. The issue I am having is that the workflow is stopped once a document has been approved due to the following error and the form does not get copied: User ID: System Account Description: Error copying a list item Outcome: Unknown Error The System Account has been given Full Control on both the start and destination document libraries. I was wondering if there is something I am over looking here as I have used workflows to copy documents before on another site and did not come across this issue. Our installation of WSS3 is using the default Windows Internal Database. WSS3 is located on our dedicated web server for IntRAnet/Extranet purposes. This dedicated web server also hosts our corporate .com web site and FTP site. I would like to develop some ASP.net 2.0 applications and also host them on this same web server.     - Unable to export a WSS 3.0 list to an Excel XP spreadsheet I'm having trouble exporting a list of any kind from WSS 3.0 into Excel XP. When I attempt to click Actions > Export to Spreadsheet within the list it gives me the error "You must have supported spreadsheet software to export a list." Are there Active X controls that are required to be able to perform this function? I believed that to be the case but the IE 6 browser isn't prompting me to download any Active X controls.     - Need to remove broken link from quick launch wss v2 I have a WSS v2 team site that has a broken link to a document library on the quick launch bar that has been deleted. Does anyone know of a way to fix this without using Frontpage 2003? We don't want the site to become unghosted from the template which as I understand is what happens when the site is modified in Frontpage. The SQL DBs are being backed up using Symantec BE SQL Agent, but I have also been backing up all sites individually using stsadm (we don't have many sites and the sites are not large). I just read sites should first be locked before backing up using stsadm and then unlocked after, and about the new getsitelock and setsitelock command parameters for WSS v3. Which of course I have not been doing, oops. So, is this what batch file should look like?: stsadm.exe -o setsitelock -url <url of site> -lock noaccess stsadm.exe -o backup -url <url of site> -filename <file> -overwrite stsadm.exe -o setsitelock -url <url of site> -lock none for each site backed up? We get a non descriptive error message or a time out message when we upload a file 30 mb or greater both in upload file window or using the explorer mode. When we use the upload multiple documents window we get an error prompting that the error has occurred while stsupld.dll was running. We can upload smaller files using all the three upload methods but cannot upload large files. I have seen a couple blogs that talk about this issue but did not see a resolution for this.     - custom web service for sharepoint HELP! I'm using the microsoft "Walkthrough: Creating a Custom Web Service" white paper to test out this scenario and I have come across a snag. When I try and run disco.exe to create the .disco and .wsdl files I get the error: Could not load the file or assembly 'SharepointCustomLibrary, Version 1.0.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=986c3ed4d8aaa298 or one of its dependencies. the system cannot find the file specified. I run disco.exe locally and the site is hosted on the sharepoint server. The server displays the Microsoft .net framework 1.1 configuration admin tool but not the 2.0 config tool. When I try to add my assembly to the GAC through the 1.1 admin tool it says it can't because it does not have a strong name (even though it really does). When that number of log files are reached, no more files are created until some are deleted." Does this mean I have to manually delete the log files (or automate with a scheduled task) or else logs won't be gathered? I find that hard to believe, but I don't know.     - IE6 Crashes When Opening List/Library in WSS3 We have a few users that are seeing this problem where IE crashes when they try to access a list or library in a WSS 3 site. It doesn't seem to happen when navigating from site to site or within a list or library - only when trying to initially access a list or library in a site. I have a problem using V3. I created 3 sites: Main site - Should be no access [http://servername/default.aspx] Subsite1 - Unique (accidentally kept "inherit permissions from parent") [http://servername/subsite1/default.aspx] Subsite2 - Unique (accidentally kept "inherit permissions from parent") [http://servername/subsite2/default.aspx] I thought that, later, one would be able to change permission inheritance as in V2 but it is not available anywhere, and yes I know where it should be and have seen it and used it many times in V2. There is no "Manage Permission Inheritance"I can see in V3. I remove a person from the main and he has no access to the main or subsites. I remove him completely and no access anywhere. Good. (in fact the option is "Delete Users from site Collection). I add him in a sub site and he has access to subsite, and main site. Not Good. So, I figured out the "Team Site Members" group permissions (for entire collection) vs "Contributor Group" site specific permissions was part of my problem (albeit not the most intuitive thing). I have tried to recompile the source (this comes with the WssDal package) yet, there seems to be some missing config files or other files and the conversion/compile fails. So my questions are: 1) Is there anyway to get the earlier compiled DLL's to be "fully trusted" or 2) Has anyone got a version of WssDal for .NET 2 or 3) Has anyone got an alternative to WssDal (apart from MS's version) or 4) Anyone have any other ideas. Hi, Having a very strange issue.

One of my users from another domain i.e. lets say Domain B, has
created a PivotTable which is linked with a list on the same site.

Strange thing is that when I login from my domain i.e. lets say Domain
A, I am able to view the field list, but when that user logs in
(obviously from his Domain B), he is not able to view anything and is
being displayed an error message called

'The Query Could Not be Processed: 0 The data provider didn't supply
any further error information'.

Please note that the Sharepoint Servers are in the Domain A.

Appreciate your help.

We have sharepoint 2003. The problem is resolved now. We resolved it
by adding the link of sharepoint in the trusted sites. Thanks for your

For future reference "sharepoint 2003" isn't enough of a description. There
are two SharePoint products that came out in 2003.

You either have "SharePoint Portal Server 2003" (SPS 2003) for which the
newsgroup is microsoft.public.sharepoint.portalserver

or "Windows SharePoint Services 2.0" (WSS 2.0) (this newsgroup)
