markup turned on for document
Hello,
For some reason when opening certain word files in certain document
libraries the markup is turned on. It is not for all of the files in
the document library. Even if you turn it off, save the file and then
reopen it, the markon is still turned on.
Has anybody had this before??? and if so how do you turn it off???

Web parts data error
Hi all:
I built a dashboard using the Office Pivot Chart web parts, but when I try
to access the dashboard page from a client I get an error. First I get the
message about "This website uses data from a provider that may be unsafe, if
you trust the site click here" which I can get rid of by putting the
Sharepoint site in the trusted sites zone, but when I do that I don't get
the data and the error message is the oh so helpful "Failed to get data".
The page works fine on the server, and the client is joined to the domain
and can access MSCRM with no issues (i.e the data source is alive and
reachable). The MSCRM server, http://danubecrm, is in the local intranet
zone, and the security is set to "Automatic logon only in intranet zone"
Has anyone seen this before and know how to fix it?
Thanks for any and all help.
John.

Access is Denied error (EventLog with Sharepoint Services 2.0 SP2)
Hey Guys,
I have a .net remoting singleton hosted in IIS 6.0 (Win Server 2k3 SP1) and
sharepoint services 2.0 (Sp2) is installed on my box.
My .net remoting component tries to write to the eventlog of windows under a

Install WSSV3 on Vista RC1
Since there is no limit on the number of websites that can be created in IIS7
on Vista RC1, it would seem that this is a good platform to install WSSV3.
Obviously, this could allow WSSV3 platform developers to avoid using a server
OS for their workstation.
The WSSV3 Beta2 install does an OS check for WinServer2003 with SP1, so the
install fails on Vista RC1, but are there plans to allow a WSSV3 Beta Refresh
or RTM install on Vista RC1(+ n) and RTM?
Is there a switch I can use on the current WSSV3 beta 2 install to bypass
the OS check? I've tried "/force" (guessing switches from stsadm, I suppose),
but that doesn't work.
TIA,

SharePoint Services - using local user accounts
I've seen this touched on before in this group, but I'm kinda stuck and
hoped someone could clarify this.
I would like to add external users to a SharePoint site running on SBS.
However, because we have limited SBS CALs (as the external users are
part-time employees) I don't want to add new domain users. So, is it a
good idea to add local users?
Is there a better solution? It seems a bit cumbersome to either
manually add the local users on the server, then on SharePoint, or
write a script and integrate it.
Also, does SBS allow local users to be added without licensing
implications? How about licensing of SharePoint for local machine users
logging in from outside the domain?
If anyone can help that would be great

Sharepoint Report Viewer Web Part Problem
I have a sharepoint services homepage with two report viewer webparts
and the following problems:
1- I cannot change the title of both webparts!
When I specify the title to one of them (Appearance > Title) the other
one changes and assumes the "Report Viewer" title.
2- I cannot display images and charts on the reports if I specify
"toolbar size : none". If I do that the report shows me a broken link

I saw the html and when I specify "toolbar size: small" or "full" on
the web part the images are rendered as

Web part editing disabled in "Public Documents"

Helpdesk Application
Hi,
I am currently trying to set up Sharepoint Helpdesk as this would assist us
in managing problems, however, The application needed some altering and now
it seems far from what we are aiming for.
What we want is to have users be able to add problems to the Issues section,
but to also have notes and resolutions etc so that we can refer back for the
solution to recurring problems.
I've added the fields to the section, but is it at all possible to "lock
out" these fields or hide them to users who aren't specifically allowed to
view or use these fields? Tag: Sharepoint Services Disable Discuss ability on documents Tag: 52351

WSS in Vista?
I just recently noticed that Vista Ultimate RC1 includes what appears to be a
full version of IIS7. I dug around to see if it also had WSS v3 but found
nothing. I tried installing from the stand-alone installation and it fails
saying that 2003 SP1 is required.
Does anyone kow if WSS will be supported on any version of Vista? This would
certainly streamline some of our development.

Meeting Workspace Question
Hello all,
I'm trying to set up a meeting workspace with a catch. The same meeting
meets on two different days, at two separate times. Is there anyway to
bundle this into 1 meeting workspace instead of having to create two to
account for the different times?
i.e. Group meets on Monday from 8am-11am and Wednesday from 3pm-5pm.
I know its possible to set up a reccurance of Mon/Wed from 8am-11am, but I
haven't found a way to make Sharepoint recognize that the Wednesday meeting
starts at a different time.
Thanks!

Problems getting theme customizations to work
Our organization has just started using SharePoint 2003, and I've be
given a site to customize for our department. Using FrontPage 2003,
I'm able to change themes for the site, and I'm also able to make a
copy of the theme and customize it. But the customizations aren't
showing up on the site, just in FrontPage.
At first I thought the problem was that even though FrontPage tells me
that I'm logged into the part of the SharePoint site where I have
access, somehow I was just making changes on my PC, not the server.
But when I make changes to default.aspx, they are showing up on the
site. Similarly, in _themes, I can see the theme I customized. If I
make changes to any of the .CSS files, including copy1011-109.css, the
changes don't show up when I look at the site. But if I delete the
.css files, then the site reverts back to the default design that our
SharePoint admin set up, which suggests that I am making changes on the
server.
Any idea what's going on and how I can fix it? It could be something
simple and stupid -- although I've read a bunch of documentation, I'm
still a newbie when it comes to SharePoint.
Thanks,
Anders Schneiderman

The only way I could break this 'hidden relationship" between my aspx and

site uses an SSL certificate and therefore runs on port 443, but I removed
that restriction and retried but got the same error.
Another suggestion I found on the web was to ensure that the WebClient
service was running on the server. I checked it and it wasn't running. In
fact, it was disabled - apparently that's a Windows Server 2003 default. So
I changed that server to Manual and started it. Still no luck.
Any other suggestions? Thanks, Dave Slinn Tag: Sharepoint Services Disable Discuss ability on documents Tag: 52292
Sharing ACT or Quickbooks data via SharePoint Services
Hi all. I do a lot of user training for SharePoint Services, primarily
in a hosted environment. Lately I've been asked by several people about
the ability for users to share data files such as ACT or Quickbooks via
a SharePoint Services site. My gut feeling is that this cannot be done,
but I have seen nothing written about this to support my feeling,
except those I've found about not being able to upload an Access mdb
file into a document library and edit it. Can anyone clear up this
question for me? Maybe even point me to some articles about SharePoint
Services ability or limitations for users wanting to share database
type files with other users? I'd like to have something I can send to
those that ask me this question.
Thanks in advance!

Date Time Formats in WSS
Hi All,
I would like to change the date time format in WSS to "10 Dec 2006" instead
of "10/12/2006" (uk settings), but sadly there appears to be no option to do
this at either the central admin, root level or column level. has anyone
come across a workaround before? My only thought is an ISAPI filter that
processes the response and uses regular expressions to reformat datetimes.
Doesn't sound too pleasant.....
I have also tried changing the "short date time" settings in the
region/language options.
Please note that I am NOT asking how to change regional settings.
cheers,

Video streaming in WSS
Hi All,
I have a video tutorial library in one WSS site. some of the tutorials are
~90Mb and VPN users are having trouble in viewing\downloading the files. Is
there a way to stream video or any other solution? I've tried compressing the
files but the quality is really worse (using Windows Movie Maker) so because
it's a tutorial I need the video to be clear.
Any suggestions?

Problems opening files larger than 40MB
Is there some kind of setting that is not allowing me to open files
residing in WSS v2. I cannot open and/or copy files that are larger
than 40MB. When I try to do that it gives me a "cannot find data
source error".
Is WSS v2 limited to just storing Microsoft Office files?
We are using it to store numerous file types, not just Microsoft Office
files.
The server is showing very poor performance when using SharePoint
compared to just storing raw data. I expected a minor decline in
performance but not this major.
Any ideas?

How long does it take for changes in OWS.CSS to take effect?
I've added a new class to the OWS.CSS file and edited a specific DIV

Restore Content Database problem
Hi,
I have spent basically the whole day reading about restoring the
content database in WSS but I still can't seem to get it working. I
really hope someone can help me out..
The only backup I have is the content database (SQL 2000 backup) but
not the configuration database.
The steps I've done so far are on a new server are:
1. Restored the database into sql
2. Installed WSS with remotesql=yes and server farm option
3. Run through the first central admin setup pages choosing an
application pool with identity of the local admin account. This also
created a new configuration database.
4. Created a new web site in IIS
5. Extended this site in WSS
6. Removed the newly created content database via 'Manage content
databases ' in central administration
7. Added my restored content database as the new content database -
once I did this I can see that Current Number of Sites = 1
8. Added the local admin account as a security and process admin and
database creator role of my restored content database.
When I browse to the site I get 'Cannot complete this action'
Firstly is there something I have missed? Do I need the original
configuration database?
I've also run exec sp_changedbowner 'server\Administrator' but it says
The proposed new database owner is already a user in the database so it
must of been using the same user as I am using now, I couldn't check
this because the old server crashed and the only backup I have is the
content db.
Does anyone have any idea what I might of done wrong?

How to default view expanded groups & collapsed subgroups in a sharepoint list?
Hi,
Finally got a hang of grouping with views.
How do I create a default view with collapsed subgroups and expanded
groups?
- Admin
+ Sam
+ Kyle
+ Noel
- Region
+ US-East
+ Europe
+ Asia
+ Japan
- Office
+ Chicago
+ New York
+ Dallas
+ San Jose
The view menu only allows "collapse all" or "expand all" but does'nt
allow selective collapse on subcategories.
Thanks!

Crawled Properties -- SharePoint 2007 .. Enterprise Search
Hello All,
I have to do search on a website using Sharepoint 2007, and
the website is built on ASP.Net and not using SharePoint. So, I setup
ContentSource for the website in the Sharepont Central Administration
3.0. I also setup some crawled rules and managed properties. When I
crawl the content using Full Crawl functionality, the content is
crawled as expected. Searching is also working.
All we need to index is the Content in .aspx pages and nothing more
than that.
Our requirement is that we only index the content of the web pages,
where we have a tag (which is in the <body> .. it can be a comment or
<span> with an id that we care). We do not want to index any other
elements or tags like <html><title>, etc.
Is there a way to do this using Crawled Properties and Managed
Properties? Tag: Sharepoint Services Disable Discuss ability on documents Tag: 52233
Site editor for WSS v2 sites??
I don't have FrontPage 2003, what are my editor options for editing a
WSS v2 site??
For example, could I use Visual Studio 2005 (VSTO version)??
Can I use Office Forms Designer 2007 beta version??
What about other HTML/ASP.NET editors?? Such as Dreamweaver MX??
I recently saw something about an editing issue called ghosting, is
this good or bad, where/how can I learn about this??
I just want to mostly do basic customization like add a logo in the
upper left corner, colors, etc.
Thank you, Tom
P.S. What editor(s) could one use for WSS v3?? Tag: Sharepoint Services Disable Discuss ability on documents Tag: 52232

Office cannot retrieve WSS-information
Hi,
On a Windows Server 2003 standard I have installed WSS on the default
web-server. The server - as well as clients - are fully patched.
The site works as it should when accessing from within IE (added site
to local intranet). But when I open a document/spreadsheet in
word/excel it keeps on prompting (after the actual document already
opened) for credentials. And no matter how many times I keep on
pounding my password - it just keeps prompting.
This goes when the server is accessed from within it's own domain - as
well as when I access it over the internet.
When I cancel the requests it doesn't connect my "task pane" in Office
- and I can't use the facilities within. It says somwthing like
(translated): You do not have access to the work space.
My user is both member of adminstrators and domain admin - both within
this domain, and on the computer where I try to gain access from
outside.
If I disable the Basic Authentication in IIS I get a "You are not
authorized to view this page" when I try to access the page from
computers on other domains.
Could anyone please advice?
Best regards,

Uploading large programs into doclibs - disadvantages?
I'm dealing with our corporate intranet running SPS/WSS'03. A user
would like to upload a program executable into a document library -
right now it's telling him that the file is too big. I know how to
change max file upload settings as well as allowing .exe files into the
doclibs...but is this a good use? Should users upload massive
installable programs into doclibs? I'm looking for a pros/cons thing
here; we currently use a shared drive for things like that. I'm
thinking Sharepoint will be slower and bloat the filesize (not to
mention chew up massive amounts of diskspace on the Sharepoint server).
Any thoughts?
Much appreciated in advance! Tag: Sharepoint Services Disable Discuss ability on documents Tag: 52218
Blog Template and WebPart
Hello all,
I have set up wss 3.0 beta an created a new site using the Blog
template. It appears that the users that I have setup as contributors
do not see their postings until and administrator has approved them. I
did not turn on any workflow stuff nor did I see that it was on when I
looked. Any have thoughts on that? I want users to be able to post
their messages without approval.
Also, has anyone seen a calendar webpart that is or could maybe be tied
to the blog template so you can click on a date and show postings from
that date, like most blogs work?
