Hello,

I've recently just installed Sharepoint and thanks to some previous help
here, things are moving along pretty well.

I've seen some screen shots of default WSS sites with a search field. I
don't have that. Is this something that needs to be added? I don't see
it in Web Parts?? Does it indeed search the entire WSS database as I'm
guessing?

Thanks for any direction.

The search field is not present if you are using the default installation
and hence WMSDE as this does not support search.

It ought to be present if you are using SQL Server 2K and ran the server
farm version of the installation.

Figures. My mistake.

I'm sure there's a way to move the database from WMSDE to SQL?

I never had much luck with that method. I normally end up getting
frustrated and just doing an STSADM backup of the site, reinstalling with
SQL and restoring my site. There's no shame in doing it that way. :)

And that certainly sounds like the best approach.

A "STSADM" backup?? I thought I read that the Sharepoint Services has no
backup tools? Was that incorrect?

Thanks,

Steve
