Out of the box you cannot use the "New" button in a sharepoint document
library that has a template for an application that is not a Microsoft Office
app. I need to create a document library for AutoCAD drawings with a template
that includes the border. Is there any way to get this done? If not
Sharepoint is almost useless for me, we do this in Lotus Domino all the time.

Out-of-the-box there isn't for WSS v2 and I've not noticed anything
different for v3.

Microsoft have a habit of not supporting non-Microsoft products (usually
starting with only the main 3 Office products) in this kind of function and
I doubt if AutoCad have enough pull to make them do it in this case.

Back to Domino then ...

Out-of-the-box is not possible as Engelbert said. I have created a new
site definition and two new document libraries especially for AutoCAD
to include new document templates.
This is achievable, it just takes some time to get it done.
Let me know if you need help.
