 - "Edit Document \ No Sharepoint App to open doc" issue I uploaded a text file to the WSS 3.0 Shared Document folder. In the Shared folder when I click the icon to the left of the file name (and select Edit) the file opens. When I select "Edit document" from the Edit drop down (to the right of the file name) I get the following error: "The document could not be opened for editing A Windows Sharepoint Services compatible application could not be found to edit the document".  - "Site Actions" button disabled WSS 3.0 I setup WSS 3.0 in a VM. When I log into the Host computer and Sharepoint as the domain admin (the account that did the Sharepoint install) the Site Actions button is avalable and works fine. While logged into the computer as Domain Admin if I log into Sharepoint as a new account the Site Action button still works fine. But when I log into the computer and Sharepoint using the new account, the Site Aciton button appears but does not respond when I hover or select it.  - Can't set "Home page" to Sharepoint Default.aspx When I log into Sharepoint (WSS 3.0) I set the Default.aspx page that comes up as IE7's Home page. I close the IE 7, restart it. IE 7 tries to go to go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkID=74005 instead of the Sharepoint home page I set. Any idea why this is happeneing?  - WSS 3.0 Contribute permission and "Delete" capability Some at our place feel that Contributors should be able to add material to a Site but NOT delete it from a site (They want us to strip Delete from the Contributors role). 1.  - Upload error When uploading a file into a documentlibrary in SharePoint>50mb, w've got the IE error "The page cannot be displayed r". The ploblem on one LAN can be solved bij increase the timeouts in sharepoint from 30 to 120 seconds and de timeouts in the IIS tot 600 seconds and the ASP script timeout to 600 seconds.  - AutoCompleteExtender in WebPart I have installed WSS 3.0 SP1 and I am trying to create a WEbPArt that hosts the AutoCompleteExtender control from the AjaxControl toolkit. Step1: created a webservice that returns List of Employees. Added ScriptService attribute to the Webservice and ScriptMethod attribute to the Web Method. Step2: Created a WebPart and added AutoCompleteExtender control to the webpart and configured the AutoCompleteExtender control to call the Webservice when someone enters text into the textbox. Step3: I added the webpart to the WebPart Page and then typed in text into the text box , however the webpart/automplete extender fails to call the webservice.  - sharepoint Hi, I am trying to install sharepoint 2007. The system has an error when I try to do this. It finds and exception in the System.Data.SQLClient.SqlException and says: "CREATE DATABASE permission denied in database 'master'." The DBA did set the appropiate permission yet the problem persist.  - copy existing wss v2 Hi, I have an extensive v2 setup that our users have stored gigs of stuff on. Works great, but the server is getting tired. I built a new server, installed WSS v2 w SP3, just like the old one. I can't seem to get stsadm to backup on one and restore on the other. Keep getting errors like 'Site already in use'.  - [WSS2] Calender view problem Hi All, I've created a custom list and created a calendar view relaying on a date field. Everything worked fine but today, I've added a new item and it doesn't shown in the calendar view. I see it on other standard views. I've tried creating a new calendar view with same parameters but same reaction...no new item shown there. Is there a limit that this view can show? Any thoughts?  - Problem with SPList.Items for Discussions? I am trying to query all of the items in a discussion list. However, the SPListItemCollection I get back from calling SPList.Items does not contain all of the items. A discussion list is made of up two content types, one for discussion and one for message (the replies) and the SPList.Items property only appears to be returing the items of the message content type. To test this, I created a discussion list, created two discusssion entries and then replied to those with three messages for a total of 5 items. When I call SPList.Items, it only returns 3 items, all of which are of the message content type. Interestingly enough however, the SPList.ItemCount property returns 5.  - WSS 3.0 Web Service, ASP.NET C# - Please help Hello all, I have been trying to find an answer on how to call the WSS 3.0 Web Services from a .NET app I am trying to write and I just can't seem to find one post that tells me what I exactly need to do. I have looked in the SDK and it looks like there may be some good examples, but they don't tell you what you need to do to get the environment setup. I was trying to create a Web Reference in my ASP.NET envrionment and point it to http://<machine>/_vti_bin/webs.asmx. It got an error to the effect of couldn't find the DISCO file, the WSDL was wrong or something along those lines. I took a look on the SharePoint box found the Webs.asmx, not disco or wsdl files existed. I did see webswsdl.aspx and websdisco.aspx. I'm not sure if I need to create those files or if I need to configure something in WSS 3.0 or in IIS. Can someone please point me in the right direction of what I need to do to get this to work?  - Filtering a calendar view by querystring? Howdy, Can I filter a calendar by a querystring value? I have done similar with XSLT dataviews but the calendar is a listformwebpart and doesn't have a datasource, just a listview which is where i can specify the filter options. If i statically assign a value it works great, but i want it based on the querystring.  - New Columns in Task List don't appear! Howdy, Using the project application template provided by Microsoft (I don't know if this is the issue or something else) when I add a new column to the task list, for example Completed Date, the field will appear in views but when I create new, edit or view the column doesn't appear. I've checked it out with SharePoint Designer and each form is using the ListFormWebPart, not a custom web part. Using the same template, I added the same field into the issues list, and i get the same results. if I add a field to another list outside of this site it works fine.  - Deleting and recreating users Howdy, I have noticed something very interesting with WSS 3.0 in AD Creation Mode. If I delete a user from the site, say by accident, then add them back in there is a number affixed to their username, i.e. dlozzi3. Why? The user was deleted. It will add the number if the user already exists but I deleted the user. Does SharePoint cache users? If so, how do I override it? I just want the same username back.  - Edit in Datasheet Hi, We are using WSS 2.0 on SPS 2003. Recently we are having problem with the "Edit in Datasheet" feature on all sharepoint sites on this server. On the same client computer, this feature works with other sharepoint sites on another server. This tells me it is a server issue. Any idea where I should look into?  - No search results I have a WSS 3.0 server using a local SQL 2005 server as the content database. The content database was originally the embedded SQL 2005, but I used backup/restore and changed WSS to farm using the actual sql 2005 instance. The sharepoint team site does not find any search results. However, it has indexed the Sharepoint Central Administration site. I can view those results by editing the end of the url of the sharepoint team site search url. any ideas on what to do to get the results (and crawling going if it is not) of the sharepoint site?  - Search icons not showing We upgraded to WSS v3 and when we do a search, no icons are showing up next to the results. The results still work but the images to the left do not show up. I noticed in the html of the search results page that the img src tag for the icon is empty (""). See the source below as an example of the returned html. <a href="path to result" id="CSR_IMG_1" title="path to result"> <img align="absmiddle" src="" border="0" alt="Item icon" /> </a> Our test environment does not have any issues. Also, I have verified that the necessary images are in _layouts/images. Finally, I was able to open up one of the images such as _layouts/images/STS_List16.gif directly in the address bar.  - Database Question Hello, I am trying to find out if there is a way to take data created in SharePoint and move it to an external custom datbase (i.e. SQL, not Access). My boss's grand vision to take task or other list data, with attached files and documents, and somehow magically move it with one click into an external custom database. The end goal is to have that data then replicated up to a different database that we do not control. From what I have read in my research I'm not sure if this is even possible. How would you move native SharePoint data out of SharePoint? If someone knows of a way that this would be doable, or knows of a third-solution that would render this capability, any information is much appreciated.  - Server Adminstrators & SharePoint Hi All, I have an issue that i would appreciate some help on. As i understand it, if you are a local administrator on a SharePoint server (like server techs usually are) you are given implied administrative access to SharePoint from an application perspective also . Can anyone confirm this? Also, if a site administrator is concerned about protecting particular business documentation from such people how do they go about locking them out? Is this possible? In our development environment, which was a "clean" install of WSS 3.0, all the workflow stuff seems to be there. I have run the WSS 3.0 admin and config tool on the offending server and it shows workflow settings under "Application Management", and we have set our production box exactly like our development box, but to no avail.  - Shared Workspaces Word pane... some questions I have some general questions regarding the Shared Workspaces pane: 1. Is it a property of Office 2003+ only? In other words, does the pane oocur in previous versions of Office? 2. Is there a way to deactivate the pane permanently on the Sharepoint side? I've read on how to deactivate the pane on the Word side. But the behavior is still unpredictable. For example we have the shared doc Word behavior (Tools | Options | General tab | Service Options button | Shared Workspace option) of the shared doc set to "Never prompt" yet a prompt still appears on close.  - Update User Info Hello, We are running wss3 and notice that when a user is created in SharePoint the wrong email address is entered into SharePoint. When our AD accounts are created there are more than one email address associated with the account. We would like it to assume one of the other email accounts associated with the account. I know I can go in and manually change every user, but to do this would be crazy. How do I go about updating these email address's either programmatically or through an update via sql? I have seen other posts reference the userinfo table, which i have done some experimenting with. I have tried changing the data in the table manually, but i don't see it reflect within SharePoint.  - Custom workflow deployment Hi, I developed a workflow using WF and have some problem on deployment. If I install the assembly in GAC it works fine, but now I want to use custom policy, so I copy the assembly into the virtual server Bin folder, create a custom policy based on WSS_Medium template, and then modify web.config accordingly; but it doesn't work and failed in the workflow initialization page. The same method works for web part, but not workflow! I set almost all the permission to be Unrestricted but still doesn't work. I'm pretty sure its related to the security, as if I change trust level to Full in web.config file, it works immediately. Does anydoby know what went wrong?  - Recover default.apsx file Hi We are running Windows SharePoint Service 2 SP2. One of our developers was editing the defaul.aspx file of one of our sharepoint sites and accidentaly overwrote the wrong file. Luckily there was a slightly older version of the same file on the site and we were able to quickly update this file. However it has led to the debate of "What if there had not been a slightly older version of this file" on the site. We do daily backups of our SQL 2000 server that contains the SharePoint database plus daily backups of our web server. How would we have recovered a single file?  - SharePoint Drafts folder Hello, I have recently released WSS3.0 to our company, we are also using MSOffice pro 2003. I have enable versioning on all of of our document libraries so users must checkout a document to edit it. My problem is that when you check out a document from Sharepoint it is supposed to keep a local copy of that document in the Sharepoint drafts folder within the my documents folder on the local computer and this folder is not showing up in the my documents folder. You don't. There is no such parameter. Instead WSS 3.0 picks up the
*internal* field and gives you the correct icon.

So the combination of icon and file name in a list/view gives you in
effect filename.extension
