I was never a big user of Frontpage but Designer plays a huge role in
MOSS/WSS 3. So, I have the following question:

If you use SPD to create a folder arbitrarily in the structure of a WSS site
and then start stuffing files, e.g. images, aspx pages, etc., how are they
treated by WSS? Are the files content? Is everything handled by the safe
mode parser? Since the files have to be in the contentdb, I expect they're
backed up with the site. Are they accessible through the object model?

Ask this in the sharepoint.design_and_customization newsgroup which is the
place where SPD questions are concentrated.

Hello,

The files in such a folder are actually treated as file content, and all
hanlded by WSS. You can access them like:

When you backup the WSS site, these file also will be backuped.

Mike, I've seen you act as a hall monitor for these groups for a long time.
There are things you don't appreciate such as MS only monitors certain
groups which is precisely why I asked this question where I did. There are a
profusion of SharePoint related groups and it seems to me that there are
hardly any hard and fast rules about where to ask certain questions.

I and others appreciate you commitment to these groups, but the constant
admonitions about asking questions in the right group is really annoying.

Regards,
Jay

Sighs. It would be good if it was possible to see which was a managed
newsgroup posting but you can't. (Yes, I have suggested it in the
appropriate place)

I appreciate that it's annoying that the new newsgroups haven't been added
to managed newsgroups yet but in the meantime isn't the expertise of
everyone else (which for SPD questions *is* in the newsgroup I said) going
to be better than the expertise of a single (non-SPD-specialist) Microsoft
support person ?

Are you all able to see sharepoint.design_and_customization through the
TechNet Managed Newsgroups web interface?

I only see sharepoint.windowsservices and sharepoint.portalserver. I have a
feeling I'm missing out on a lot.

Hey Luke! Thanks for anwsering the question.
It's nice that someone realized all this banter over political correctness
actually started out with a Guy asking for help.

I don't see where you get the "political correctness" from.

You asked an SPD quesion. I pointed out where SPD questions go and thus
where the SPD experts are.

I had no idea you were posting on purpose to the wrong newsgroup because the
right newsgroup wasn't included in the managed newsgroup system because I
couldn't see from your post that this was a managed newsgroup posting.
