I have a team services site, and all works ok apart from you try to edit an
entry.

I keep getting the following message:

SQL Server Error
The SQL Server might not be started sharepoint

I have checked the password for SQL and its ok. I'm lost, can anyone
assist?

You also posted this identical message to the SharePoint Team Services
newsgroup.

So, when you say you have a "teamservices site" which of the two products
are you actually using - STS or WSS (Windows SharePoint Services)?

You can't be using both ...

I ever get the same error but it is because it because data type wrong in XML
query.

incorrect SQL query might cause this error.
