    - Filtering an imported list by user Hello, I have imported an excel spreadsheet, one of the columns contains the customer (Agent). I wish to filter the list so that users can only see the items which are relevant to them. The only way I can see to do this is to manually create a view which filters by their name, but there are too many customers and different views required to make this feasable. I've tried filtering using the Me function, (which returns exactly the same text as that which is in the Agent column), however, it is searching for the text "=PROPER(RIGHT(Me,LEN(Me)-9))" rather than the calculated value... The user didn't create any of the items, so how can I filter it to display only the relevant ones? It's been driving me mad, thanks for any help. Tag: Searching imported lists Tag: 67330

    - Inbound e-mail file names converted to lower case I've enabled incoming email on a document library and although the attachments I send to the list are added to the list, their file names are always converted to lower case. Has anyone seen this? I've tried: * Different email formats (HTML, rich text, plain text) * Saving the original email to the library (.eml file shows correct file name casing) Nothing above has preserved the file names correctly.     - Paste image from clipboard into control? I am trying to adapt the HelpDesk sample SharePoint template for use in logging I.T. service requests. Users balk at the fact that there is no way to paste an image from the clipboard (e.g., explanatory screen shot) into the Service Request list item. On a test instance, I changed the "Details" control type to "Enhanced rich text", but pictures must be saved to files to be inserted. Any ideas?     - Customizing Helpdesk prebuilt template Hello all, I download the 40 templates for wss 3.0 and installed the Helpdesk one. I am curious on how you can customize the forms contained within. The one I was looking at specifically was the New Service Request form. I wanted to try and prepopulate the Customer field on the NewForm.aspx with the current logged in user. Basically trying to leverage the User.Identity.Name or something of that nature. Any thoughts on how this could be accomplished? It may be more trouble than it is worth.     - Listing Information for Shared Documents? I am using windows sharepoint and I am uploading sales orders into the shared documents. The shared documents view shows "type", "name", "modified", and "modified by" as fields, but I need to create my own fields to provide information about the document such as customer and ID number.     - Bug in Alerts Can someone confirm if this is a bug? Here are the steps 1. Create an announcements list 2. Create a "assignedperson" column in the new announcements list (allow multiple people) 3. Create a view on the announcments list with filter set to "assignedperson=[Me]" 4. Set an alert and choose this view in the "Send me an alert when:" section When I use only myself in the assignedperson field, I get the alert When I assign myself and someone else, the item displays properly in the view, but the alert is not sent.     - Cannot sync onenote to sharepoint My collegue cannot open or synzronize onenotefiles from within onenot. He can upload a onenote file to the sharepoint server from the web- interface. He can open the file from the onenote interface on the hompage of sharepoint He can NOT open the file on the srver from within onenote... He cannot, when having the file opened in onenote, synch the file (after chances) from within onenote OR he cannot start a shared notebook saving it to the sharepoint server from within onenote So - it seems that from within onenote he only has one way communication with the server....     - WSS Search Problem We've managed to create a major headache here... hope you can help. We created a WSS 3.0 site on a Windows 2003 server using the built-in SQL Express as the database. All was working very well, including Search, until we made the site public through Alternate Access Mappings. Unfortunately, a misunderstanding of what to enter in AMM ( the IT admin changed the "default" name, instead of adding the Internet Header) caused the problem. While the site still "worked", a SiteSearch came back with nothing. We fixed the AAM entry,, but now Search refuses to re-index all the docs, wikis and pages that are currently in the site. But, if we add a new item/doc, or if an item is changed, Search *will* find and index that item. But all the stuff we loaded in the trial stage does not appear in any search results. Our problem is that when users in other geographical regions (Ex: Argentina) needs to upload or download files they experience lots of latency as a result of bandwidth limitations. Is there any way to have a second content database in that remote office in order to decrease the amount of time it takes to download and upload documents? Or is there any other work around?     - Search Server Hello, I hope this is the correct group to post this question. We recently instsalled Sharepoint Services on a server running Windows 2003 Server and SQL 2005 Std. We have been using this now for a short time and recently noticed that it was not possible to search our site. We get the following message: Your search cannot be completed because this site is not assigned to an indexer. Contact your administrator for more information. I am quite new to Sharepoint and may be running before I can walk. Could somebody suggest the best method to resolve this issue and get the search feature working on our site.     - SharePoint Rookie needs a little help All, I created a Sharepoint site for some events that will take place every two weeks. I successfully created the events on the calendar, but don't see how to invite people or groups. I did manage to create a "workspace" for each event and a list of users for the site. I need them to be invited and accept the meeting invitations and/or change their attendance status if possible.     - Cannot see my partners Changes in onenote s.p doc I uploaded a shared notebook from onenote on our sharepoint-server. My partner managed to open it in onenote (after som hassle). He managed to make some changes, see my changes, but! I cannot see his changes. I can erase his changes (those that I cannot see) Yes, I did make my partner editor of the document. We also tried this on the Office Live Small business. Same result Anybody knows a fix for this? I have SP1 installed - I do not yet know if my partner has that. A related problem might be that it seems impossible for my partner to open the document from within Onenote - he has to do it via the s.p server (or Live Small business..) Soon desperate for helpt...     - TFS Portals backup Hi. I am defining a strategy for backup of my TFS server. I understand that backing up the data tier keeps my version control, work items etc. safe, but I am uncertain about the Sharepoint portals. For example, when my users upload documents to a portal, are they also stored on SQL Server? And if I customize some aspect of a portal, where are they stored?     - Event Receivers don't fired when using forms authentication Hi, I have programmatically registered some event receivers like ItemAdded, ItemUpdating, etc. to perform some security settings on the items. That works perfect when accessing the site via Windows authentication, but for one or another reason these events don't fire when accessing the website via Forms authentication. My WSS v3 site is accessible via a default zone using Windows authentication and also via a zone Internet with forms authentication.     - Combine values from another List Hello, I want to obtain values from two columns on another List but don't know how to do this. For example, I have a Contact List with First Name and Last Name. I have a Job List and I want to have a column where I can select from a list of First Name, Last Name pairs from the Contact List. It appears that I can either include First Name or Last Name, or I can concatenate First Name and Last Name on the Contact List but this column is not allowed to be used as a menu selection in the Job List.     - Problems with "Import Contacts" feature for Outlook 2003 Hello, I'm using WSS 2.0 and am able to successfully use the Import Contacts feature to import contacts from Outlook 2003 into WSS's Contacts list. However, the Import Contacts feature only bring up Oulook's Address Book (same as the one in Outlook by pressing Tools->Address Book). This Address Book only displays contacts with e-mail address or fax number. I have many contacts in Outlook with only land line phone numbers and none of these are displayed. Do I have to manually copy and add all these contacts without e-mail or fax number into WSS 2.0's Contact list? Is there a work around or option I forgot to check? Thanks!     - Extranet links vs intranet links in WSS 3.0 Hello, I'm currently responsible for maintenance of an intranet site collection using WSS 2.0 (with the DB in a SQL 2005 server). We are currently looking to migrate to WSS 3.0; the site collection is also accessible as an extranet. We have an internal address (http://intranet), which can be accessed with SSL from the outside with a different URL(https:// extranet.ourdomain). When sending links to list items from either side, mostly using the issue boards' "assign to" feature, Sharepoint uses the URL from the sender's side. Thus, if the receiver is not on the same side, the links cannot be accessed directly. (This is apparently a major hindrance for a lot of users) I've seen an older, related thread stating that WSS 3.0 might still have this issue. Can anyone please confirm? Or whether the Office SharePoint Server 2007 version shares this issue as well?     - SharePoint 3.0 - making it accessible to user 'from the outside' Good morning! Simple question actually: making sharepoint 3.0 accessible to the user base when the user base is not connected to the network (say, they are at home or on vacation or whatnot). How? I ask becuase my colleague tells me that this is very tricky. To me, it seems like we simply have a dedicated, static Public IP Addres available. We create an A record called 'sharepoint' (or whatever...), configure the SonicWall to forward traffic to this IP Address to the server in question (member File Server) and that is it. My colleague tells me that SharePoint is not really all that 'friendly' when it comes to accessing it from the outside world. I trust what he says.     - WSS3.0 - Reference created or modified field in calculated columns in This topic has been raised before by others using WSS2.0 and WSS3.0, but I found no solution. Google the keywords "Calculated Modified field document library" without the quotes, and you'll find some threads. The issue is that there are problems in WSS3.0 when referencing the Created or Modified fields in a calculated column in a Document Library. In WSS2.0 there was no option to use these fields in calculated column in a Document Library, but you could for a list. In WSS3.0 you now have the option of using these fields for both a Document Library and a list, but there are problems when using for a Document Library. The values I get when referencing the Created and Modified fields in a calculated field in a document library vary between nothing, the correct value and "Sat, 30 Dec 1899" as I create new items, edit items and edit the calculated columns. To replicate the problem - Create a document library - Create a calculated column called "CreatedText", with the formula "=TEXT([Created],"DDD, DD MMM YYYY")" - Create a calculated column called "ModifiedText", with the formula "=TEXT([Modified],"DDD, DD MMM YYYY")" - Insert an item - View the item properties - the calculated field values have the value "Sat, 30 Dec 1899". - Edit the item - View the item properties again. The Created calculated field value is correct, but the Modified calculated field value will display "Sat, 30 Dec 1899". - Go to the list settings - Go to the CreatedText and ModifiedText calculated fields, edit and save. NOTE: You don't have to change the field properties, just update them. - Go back to the list item and view the item property. The calculated fields that were modified now have the correct value. - Edit the item - View the item properties again, and the calculated field values will display "Sat, 30 Dec 1899" as the Created or Modified date.     - Issues with Non-MS Apps in WSS 2.0 Hi, We have a Projectserver installation using WSS 2.0. We are having issues on some functionality with non-MS applications with our Sharepoint Server 1. When we drag files from a sharepoint document library window to our Lotus Notes email we don't see any issues but dragging files from Lotus Notes email to a document library window do not work. 2. Double-clicking a file will open the application associated to a file but saving the file directly to Sharepoint after editing it will not be possible for non-MS apps but don't have any issue at all for MS- apps files (word, excel, powerpoint, etc). Is this problem going to be resolved if we move to WSS 3.0 or it can be resolved by tweaking/fine tuning our WSS 2.0 installation?     - Transfer WSS 2 to a new domain Hi; My Windows Sharepoint Services 2.0 is working and joined to my current domain "ANAC.COM", I have setup a brand new Windows Server 2008 domain with another new domain name "NEWDC.LOCAL". You can click on the column in any view to sort by it.

You can also filter on any column (not much use for ID numbers though)

Both apply to most normal types of columns.
