Hi Paul,
the SQL databases that are used in WSS 3.0 works like any other database in
SQL.
What i mean is that you could do any type of backup that you'd like.. Full,
Diff. etc.
The best way (i think) is to do a full backup of sharepoint either from
Central Administration > Operations > Perform a Backup
or through SQL.
