I saw some similar questions but not exactly what I need.

The default "All Items" view is a Standard mode view, so to display it in
Datasheet mode you have to select "Edit in Datasheet Mode" each time you go
in and out of the "All Items" view.

Since you can not change the "All Items" view to datasheet mode, can I
create a new "All Documents" view in datasheet view and delete the All Items
view without crashing the list? I ask because a few times in the past, I have
deleted "default" items like "reader" and replaced them with another only to
crash the list, library, or the whole installation. So I am very careful now
before just deleting any default item.

Thanks

Views are no problem. You can add new views or even the old view for a
second time with a new name. It's all no problem.

They are only filters to the information you are not amending anything
important !

(Consider giving them a different name to All Documents though - I use more
descriptive ones like in this case maybe "All Items in Datasheet View" as
otherwise you'll have users confused between All Documents and All Items I'm
sure.

Thanks Engelbert! Just wanted to make sure since the last time I deleted a
metadata column I lost all previous data in that column for all documents in
the library. Thanks again - Always a quick response
