SharePoint can handle quiet large amounts of data:

But even if you limit your views to show 2000 records at any time and as such get reasonable performance, I would still
wonder if SharePoint is the right place for these data.
Even though SharePoint is a great tool, it's not a tool that will replace everything else. SQL server is also a great
tool.
Why does it have to be SharePoint?
What do you want to use the data for?
How will you enter the data?
