    - Inconsistent behavior- Subsite Error Sites are hosted on internal webserver. http://mywebsite â?? Users can open it http://mywebsite/HR â?? When Users tries to open, gets IE error sometime & canâ??t directly open it. Opening a sub site is working sometime and not working sometime & gives IE error.     - Setting up users for multiple sites Greetings to all. I have 3 websites. One of them is main website (site-1); two are sub sites for HR (site-2)/Marketing (site-3). I have 3 users (User-1 / User-2 / User-3), I want User-2 to access Site-2, in any given permission for site-2 only. User-3 to access site-3 only,in any given permission for site-3 only.     - Employee page - need image webpart! I'm quite new to SharePoint Services, and am busy creating our new company intranet. I've been asked to provide a page/section where we can display employee photographs along with details of their profile/experience etc - which they should preferably be able to update themselves. I've uploaded all the pictures to a picture library on the site, and now need a way of displaying the pics along with the input boxes for personal information. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.     - Frontpage 2003 backup/restore - Please Help Hi, I used Frontpage 2003 to backup a sub-site from Server A and restore it to Server B as a new top level site with a new content DB. The backup and restore works perfectly except for the site membership. All memberships are gone. Only the site owner is shown under the Manage Users page.     - Value does not fall within the expected range. Hi, I've been getting this error every time I extend a virtual server. The virtual server was extended successfully but when I try to hit the site, I get "Value does not fall within the expected range" instead of getting prompted to select a template.     - Two URLs Pointing to One Content DB Background - We are using WSS to host nearly 100 different websites using various web address for the sites. Some URLs are within our domain and some arenâ??t. My question is, can you point two separate web addresses to a single site's content database? For instance, web site #1 at http://www.websiteaddy1.com is the active site that will be viewed by the general public. There is a need for the exact same content that is displayed on web site #1 to be displayed on a separate web address, say at http://websiteaddy2.org. The two different sites are on the same server and within the same virtual server. We have been beating our heads against our computers monitors trying to figure this out. Short of doing the following we have no other idea how to do this. - Deleting the second site, - Recreating it, - Applying a migrated version of site #1 to site #2 before a template is picked.     - Moving files and tempdb usage Hi, We have a WSS site with document libraries containing around 40GB of data right now. We have developped an application that moves files from one document library to another and have noticed two things. 1) Moving a document using the SharePoint API take from 15-30 seconds 2) tempdb seems to be used heavily on each document move 100% Disk Time with a queue length of over 2 I see quite a bit of I/O stalls in SQL Server for tempdb which leads me to think that would be part of the problem. I have a set of disks dedicated to the content database of that site (6 disk in RAID 1-0) and a disk dedicated to tempdb.     - Associating theme with Custom site definition Hi there, I am a little stuck on this... I have created a new custom site definition and all looks good. How can I associate a custom theme (at the moment it is using the default spring) with the site difinition? I need to make the site definition come up using our default theme so the user doesn't have to worry to apply it.     - Smigrate under able to backup a site I am using smigrate.exe to backup and move a sharepoint site to a new server. However on one site I am having a problem backing up the site. When I run smigrate the error message I get is: ERROR: 589831 Server error: The folder that would hold URL 'subwebname' does not exist on the server.     - Installation time? Next week I will be installing WSS in our new servers. I have three days to install WSS and create our Intranet site. This is being used for our new De Novo Bank starting up. I'm trying to get a feel for how long you think it should take to set up WSS to be able to use like the free trial that one can sign up for. I have used that and set up all of the web parts, but i have not had a chane to do a practice install, and will not have that time. Anyone have any ideas?     - Document Storage Sharepoint Site Total Maximum Size I would like to put about 40GB of files in a Sharepoint site running Windows 2003 Standard with SQL2005 Express. Can I do this. I will follow the suggested max files per folder of 1,000 and max file size of say 50mb. Is there a total max on size of all files and folders. I've seen some sites say max file size can be 2GB but nothing says total max storage. How will this affect storage, and how big does the server need to be. I'm moving all of the file storage for a large company to sharepoint. Has anyone else done this in this way and how did it work out. What were they server specs. I've read alot of the Microsoft BP documents and understand the total numbers, bt they don't say anything about total size. GB's...     - Problems with Lookup Field when Moving Documents to another site l Here is the situation: I have two SharePoint sites open in two Internet Explorer windows. Both windows are to the Explorer View for Document Libraries on two separate SharePoint sites. I can successfully drag and drop the documents from the Explorer View in one library into the Explorer View in the other site library. Both libraries have a column called "owner" which is a lookup column that looking into the User Information table and displays the Display Name. On each library this field is optional (not required). The default value is blank. Here is the problem: After moving the documents I noticed that the "owner" field in the new library does not contain the same name that was displayed as the owner in the previous library (even if the same name is available in the owner field list of the new library). Example: Old site Owner field = Bill Gates ... move docs .... New site Owner field = George Bush But there is yet another catch: Even if the old site Owner field is blank (because it is an optional field), when I move the docs to the new site, the docs will get a new owner. Example: Old site Owner field = <blank> ... move docs ... New site Owner field = John Moore This is weird since the Owner field on the new site is not required and there is no default value (blank) so the entry is blank unless you select someone from the list.     - Site Usage Report - missing hits Hello, I have an issue with some users not appearing in the site usage report even though they access the site everyday. They do appear but arent showing as using the site in the last fortnight even though they have used it everyday. The report gets updated every night and there are hits from other users (yesterday) appearing. I have checked the logs and settings and cannot see any errors.     - Quick Question: Are all Lists stored in XML format? Hi, I have been looking at Biztalk and how to use that to process 'Form Libraries' because they are stored in XML format.     - "Title" - property not appearing in document uploads Hello, when a document is uploaded into a document library, the properties according to the columns of the library are displayed to be edited. However, this holds for all properties but not for the "Title" property (as far as I can see, this property is taken over automatically for Office documents, but not for other, like pdf-files). Particularly when assigning a title to a pdf file or wanting to change the title of a word-document, users would want to change the title at upload. Only after uploading the document, and clicking "Edit Properties", the title appears as an edit box and can be changed; this however is quite some additionaly effort.     - Linking to a named range in Word via a Sharepoint URL Note - this question was also posted on the Word newsgroup, but none of the suggested remedies were successful. I think it may be a problem with how to reference a range name in a file in Sharepoint rather than a problem with Word. I would like to place a link to a table in an Excel sheet in my Word document. I can do this successfully if the Excel file is saved locally or to a network drive. However, if the target file is stored in Sharepoint I don't seem to be able to use the PlaceReference parameter in the LINK function. i.e. { LINK Excel.Sheet.8 "D:\\anydirectory\\Myfile.xls" "MyNamedRange" } works correctly { LINK Excel.Sheet.8 "http:////myportal//anydirectory//MyFile.xls"} does not return an error, but I get the complete Excel sheet instead of the range. { LINK Excel.Sheet.8 "http:////myportal//mydirectory//MyFile.xls" "MyNamedRange"} returns the following error: "Could not open 'http://myportal/mydirectory/MyFile.xls!MyNamedRange" { LINK Excel.Sheet.8 "http:////myportal//mydirectory//MyFile.xls#MyNamedRange"} does not return and error but I get the complete Excel sheet instead of the range. Also, Word strips out the #MyNamedRange suffix from the field code when I update it. Is there another syntax that might work for this?     - Search engine failure We have a number of WSS sites running for around 5 months which are pretty much out-of-the-box with a little customisation in terms of colours, banners etc. We've just received a report that the search engine has ceased to work, it doesn't find anything whatever keywords are entered.     - wsus and sharepoint on same server I have a windows 2003 box running wsus succesfully on the default web site. Once I install sharepoint on this server, wsus stops working. I have granted anonymous access to the appropriate sites within the default and I also added the correct exemptions within the sharepoint administration console per the Microsoft pages I found. Wsus appears to now work, except I can't get in the wsus admin page http://servername/wsusadmin.......I get a page cannot be found! Thus I can't administer wsus......HELP!!!     - Inserting Internet Search bar I have researched and found 2 different internet search bars that I have inserted into Sharepoint Services. The second through Frontpage 2003 that is a MSN search bar. The problem I have had with both is when you type in your internet search words and hit enter it refreshes my weather add-in. I keep getting the following error while trying to create a new site: The virtual server was extended with Windows SharePoint Services, but the following error occurs in creating the default site "http://dev-smk-wss/". Please correct the input and try to create the default site again. Error: Cannot complete this action. This is a fresh installation of Windows Server 2003 in a test domain (inside 2 virtual PCs). The first virtual PC has AD running on it. The second virtual PC has SQL Server 2005 and Windows SharePoint Services 2003 SP2 installed on it. I have just completed the installation of SQL and WSS. SQL server is running. The AppPool user has the appropriate permissions in SQL Server (Security Administrator and DB Creator). I can find no other data in the logs or event viewer to indicate what failed. The Site DB is created on the SQL server. Any idea what is causing this error or how I can fix it? But I needed to add a new user to the virtural server and when I tried to log onto the Microsoft SharePoint Administrator to add the user I was unable to do so.     - permissions Ok, I am struggling with understanding permissions. If I want only users A and B to be able to edit docs in a shared library and want only users C and D to be able to edit files in a different Shared library, then is my only choice to setup different Workspaces where these libraries reside?     - Privilege issues Iâ??m pretty new to SharePoint. I have installed it in 3 different virtual machines, and on one standalone server. Finally had it installed on a networked server. For the first time, I am having what I believe are security issues. I can not create cross site groups. I have some pages I just created that donâ??t have the â??modify this pageâ?? show up. I have some pages where I can browse for a web part, but not get to the create menu. To my knowledge, I am a local admin on the server, and have admin right on the sql server. I have tried setting the SharePoint admin group to me and to a group containing me. I donâ??t have these issues on any of the other standalone installs I have done. Can someone help me out?     - Update request on stsadm -o deletesite Good Morning, I'm having a problem deleting my wss site using the stsadm -o deletesite command. I searched the group and found several year-old discussions about it. When I run the command: stsadm -o deletesite -url http://localhost I get the message: There is no Web named "/" This has just recently started and coincidently my site has just recently grown past the 500MB mark. I have applied SP2, and all of the information I've seen from Microsoft seems to indicate that they would include the HotFix in SP 2 - http://support.microsoft.com/kb/888505/ But it certainly hasn't fixed my problem. So I'm wondering, do I need to email M$ and give them $100 to get this HotFix, or is there a better way? All I want to do is delete my site on my redundant server and restore the latest backup to it.     - Save PDF to Shared Documents Hello, How can I save a PDF File to the Sharepoint Server? I visited a web page on the Internet and clicked on a link to download a small PDF Brochure that loaded into my Web Browser. Normally I would click "Save A Copy" and save the document to a network folder. However, when I pick "Shared Documents on MySharePointServer", NONE of my usual foldes are visible at all.     - upgrading from WMSDE to SQL 2005 problem hi to all Win2k3 SP1, all updates AD, no account self creation, domain controller All updates fro SharePoint services also When I was upgrading, I was following MS WindowsSharePointServicesAdmin.chm. Section Migrating from WMSDE to SQL Server 2005. Everything was going smooth, till the point: Extend a virtual server 7. In the Security Configuration section, select NTLM, and then click OK. Note Do not close SharePoint Central Administration, because you will need it in the next procedure. After the virtual server is extended, the next step is to add the restored content databases.     - Calculated fields without weekends I know this is a long-shot, but is there anyway of removing weekends within a calculated field? I have two dates, e.g 23/03/2006 (Begin Date) and 27/03/2006 (End Date) My calculated field finds out how long the process took [End Date] - [Begin Date] = 4 days. The only problem is dates 25 & 26 were at the weekend and no-one was undertaking any tasks so the task took only 2 days to complete rather than 4.     - Moving from one server to two Our present sharepoint installation consists of WSS and SQL Server 2000 on one box. Due to growth, we need to separate them. After I install SQL Server on the new box, how do I point the existing sharepoint to the new server? I found documentation about going from MSDE to SQL Server, but not SQL Server to SQL Server. What I'd like to know, is, can either of them search inside exchange mailboxes? Currently our uses use Google desktop search to find information from local drives, network drives, and their exchange mailbox. One configuration DB per web farm. so your 2 WSS boxes will need to be
in a load balanced web farm.

Yes, you can. They will have all the same settings and all the same
content. This is part of load balancing the servers, although you don't
have to load balance them if they are all pointing to the same config.
