    - Displaying 4 columns in a data view web part Hi, does anyone know how to display a list in 4 columns? We have a long list of cities that I'm grouping by country, by using a data view web part I've managed to get the list to display in 2 columns, but that's still wasting a lot of screen space.     - Installation Error WSSv3 Hi. I am trying to install windows SharePoint Services v3(beta2). I installed win2003 server, iis, smtp service, .net v2 runtime, workflow foundation beta 2.2 and finally wssv3. After installing wssv3, I run SharePoint Products and Technologies Configuraton. Until Task 5, the configuration failed and the log shows error. Anyone encountered this problem? It's a basic installation with all within the same server.     - Logon failed Some users are able to logon from an XP workstation but not from Win2k. I don't think that's the root cause but after looking at the IIS logs, I noticed that user credentials from the Win2k workstations are not being passed on to IIS, although "Enable Integrated Windows Authentication" is selected in IE. Is there something that can be done, either on the client or server side, for IE to pass user credentials? Below is a snippet of the log from IIS.     - Getting "Service Not Available" Message... All, I'm no longer as technical as I once was but the task of maintaining a SharePoint Services site has fallen to me. Up until last night our site was working pretty well. However, now, the main site is yielding the "Service Not Available" message.     - Possible to merge 3 top-level sites into 1? A user has 3 top-level sites that they'd like to consolidate into one site. Are there any utilities to copy the different web parts and migrate them to the new site?     - How do u hyperlink to doc in different shared document web part If I have 2 Team Sites, each with a Shared Documents web part, can a document in TeamSite1 contain hyperlinks to a document in TeamSite2 so those members of TeamSite1 can view but not modify the doc on TeamSite2?     - Creating accounts & controlling access for outsiders We are a non-profit organization using Sharepoint in "Domain Account Mode" and staff has no problem accessing sharepoint sites. We now want to provide our members (about 150 people who are not set up in our AD) with access to various Team Sites where they can collaborate on documents, forums, receive alerts, etc. I am planning to create AD user accounts for these members and using their personal email address (yahoo, hotmail, etc) as their "established" SMTP email address on our exchange server so the alert functions of sharepoint will work. my questions are; 1. Is this the most efficient way of going about this seeing as I do not want to have to re-install Sharepoint in Account Creation Mode? 2. What AD rights do I need to apply to the Group containing these members to ensure they only have access to Sharepoint and not other resources on our AD network? 3. To login to the sharepoint site they have to enter the username as domain\username followed by the pwd. How can on set it so only the username needs to be entered? 4. How do I turn alerts "on" as the default for various webparts within the sites so the members do not have to (they will not remember nor follow insturctions) Thanks in advance for responses or url's to sites with answers.     - moving WSS To move an entire WSS implimentation to a new server (using the desktop engine), I first used IISback.vbs to back up the metabase on the old server, which I then restored on the new server. Then I followed the directions in KB article 833797 to back up the content database, and restored it on the new server as well. Then I copied all the web.config files in the wwwroot folder over to their appropriate locations on the new server. All the content seems to have transfered fine, but the webparts in the sites show the "cannot be displayed because it is not registered on this site as safe" error message. From what I've read, this error message can be the result of problems in several different places. Where should I start looking? Tag: Project Tag: 48983

    - SMigrate Restore looses subsites My current topology in WSS is one top level site with many subsites - only one content database which is almost 38 GB. I'm in the process of breaking up some of the subsite chains and creating new top level sites. I'm also creating new content databases along the way, trying to keep them around 2 GB. While using smigrate to move some of these sites, I've noticed that when I ran the restore, it was restoring the selected site correctly, but the subsites were not restored. After the restore finished and I navigated to the new site and found the the subsites were created, but when navigating to them I was prompted to choose a template. I got around this by using smigrate for each individual subsite, but its taking quite a long time. I've found that when I restore one of the subsites, I have the same problem if that subsite had children. It seems that although I am backing up subsites, I'm not restoring them. Does anyone know if this is due to the size of the sites, or maybe the amount of time necessary to fully restore the site chain. Thanks Tag: Project Tag: 48967

    - Meeting Workspace - closed webpart, how to get it back? Hello, I have a meeting workspace and closed one of the webparts. Now, I can't see it in the list of "Add Web Parts". The "Add Web Parts" seems to create a new web part, but doesn't show all the ones that already exist (that have content). I can see the list of webparts if I go to Site Settings/Modify Site Content, but this list only allows you to change the properties of the web parts, not add them back to the Home Page.     - 401.3 Error when connecting to site Dont know where to start, I'm banging my head with this one. Regular domain users without any special permissions get a 401.3 error referencing "Access denined to to an ACL setting on the requested resource" When I try to browse it from my account (I have domain admin priveleges) I can see the site no problem.     - Is there any way to save a workspace as a template with content? I have one user who is starting a project and wanted to save his workspace as a template with content so that the next time he starts a project he can just use that template. The problem is that when you go to save a workspace as a temlate, there isn't an option to save with content (folder structure in a doc lib for example). Does anyone know a workaround for this?     - Cant Authenticate to web on IIS Server - other PCs work fine... On the IIS Server itself, if I right click on a web and Select All Tasks, SharePoint Central Administration. I get the Admin Pages and can create and do as I want. If I go into a Web, Properties, Server Extensions Tab, Settings button, then Navigate to the Administration page for a Site I get Prompted for a username and Password. I enter it 3 times and am rejected. URL is something like this: http://www.my.website.domain.com/_vti_bin/_vti_adm/fpadmdll.dll?page=webadmin.htm If I just copy and past that to any other machine I've tried I get in just fine.     - Poll on position on allowing users to edit in FrontPage I'm engaged in a battle within my organization regarding the use of FrontPage to modify Sharepoint sites. Obviously, there is a risk from a support perspective since users can really wreak havoc which then creates a support issue. However, there is a level of customization that you can't do without FrontPage, like adding links to the QuickLaunch bar.     - Users logs in as wrong user Hi all, I have WSS setup on SBS2003. When one of my users browses to companyweb, they are getting logged into Sharepoint as me, not their domain user account. There was a bit of a problem with her sharepoint account a couple of days ago that I managed to fix by giving her the Administrator role, logging her in, then removing the Administrator role. This worked fine until today when she started getting logged in as me! I have tried clearing the Network password cache and changed my password, but she still appeared on the Sharepoint site as me!     - Multiple logon prompts when using SSL from external clients Okay my problem: When accssing my sharepoint Intranet site from an www PC using its external IP address (uisng XPsp2), I am first propmeted for a logon thats fine. After that I get multiple long screens whilst the home page is loading. After lots of data is not available, some icons are missing and when i click on a subsite i get the follwoing message: Server Error in '/' Application. The resource cannot be found. Description: HTTP 404. The resource you are looking for (or one of its dependencies) could have been removed, had its name changed, or is temporarily unavailable. Please review the following URL and make sure that it is spelled correctly. : Right my setup is w2003 server r2 running Sharepoint Services (with service pack) using ssl encryption 128bit. The server is set to Intergrated Windows Authentication (i have tried basic too) anoynomus auth is off. I have noticed that a few ssl warnings come up after the initail logon upon vieiwng these it is trying to use an addtional certificate that is actually installed on a different server (my mail server which uses ssl for OWA) could that be whats causing the problem.......................?     - receive "The user does not exist." when try to add new users to a I tried to add new users to a cross site group, when I enter domain\username(s), separate them with semicolons. On the Confirm Users step, it automatically displays usersâ?? name, email and display name from Active Directory. But when I go next step, I receive error message â??the user does not existâ??. I added some users to other cross site groups of other top level sites before without any problem. And when I check the ~/_layouts/1033/userinfo.aspx (user information), the added cross site group users information donâ??t display, but they are showed when I check ~/_layouts/1033/siteusrs.aspx ( site collection user information).     - How can I transfer document properties between document libraries? Hi, We have decided on two separate Doc Libraries in WSS to handle Document Creation (Lib A - Drafts) and Public Document Access (Lib B - Published). Lib A is secured so that only a select group can access it, add, edit, manage docs (MS Word, MS Visio) in it. Lib B is for everyone to view, and will contain PDFs only. We create docs and store in Lib A, then print to PDF to publish (i.e. copy) to Lib B. Currently we have no smarts to accomplish this, but we need to make it as easy and automated as possible. Document Properties stored in documents in Lib A need to be transferred with the PDF across to Lib B, can this be scripted in any way?     - ...trying to sip from a firehose... Ok, there can certainly be no criticism of 'lack of information' about Sharepoint.. The problem is, I have very basic questions and there is just too much information to get good, simple answers. We have an all WindowsXP/OfficeXP environment with the one (annoying) exception of Lotus Notes. Notes allows document sharing in a way I can't seem to get elsewhere. I need for a dozen or more people to be able to open & edit the same spreadsheet simultaneously and transparently. I can do this with Notes - but that isn't enough of a reason to keep it. I want to do away with Notes and I need some way for users to share files not normally shareable. We could use a ton of other features, I'm sure - but this is the immediate, demonstrable business need. Can Sharepoint do this?     - Document Library's "Basic Page" not saved under folder We are using WSS 2003. When we are in the document library webpart, and do a "New Document", then choose "Basic Page". The Basic Page that is created is always saved in the root of the doc library and not within the folder that is currently open. I don't see a "Save As" button to allow you to choose its location like you can do in the other Office tools. Since the Basic Page is stored at the root, when you copy it to a folder using the Explorer View, it will not copy the contents of the Basic Page. It does work if you do a Cut/Paste, but we've had problems sometimes losing files this way, so we'd rather do Copy/Paste and then delete the old if the copy is successful. Is this a known issue? I have been searching for the past 3 hours for a fix to the following problem: background: xp pro sp2 Visual Studio.net enterprise architect 2003 installing: WebPartTemplatesforVSNetSample.EXE install gets to a section that asks to map the micrsoft.sharepoint.dll file, and the readme says if it is installed it will enter the path automatically. Question: Where can I get the microsoft.sharepoint.dll file? So that I can utilize the templates are installed which actually is web part library in vb new project menu.     - Define Document Library Folder Hi, Is there any way I can change the standard Document Library folder to view a document library of another subsite eg If I store all my documents in the hompage of the Portal site Doc Lib, I want to be able to view one of these sub folder's contents in the doc lib web part of a sub site of the same portal.     - edit document in micorosoft word This used to work for me and now I get that iexpore.exe application error box, the memory could not be read or the memory could not be written. If it worked before, I have to assume something is messed up on my PC, but what?? I tried uninstalling and re-installing Internet Explorer but that didn't fix the problem.     - Collaboration using Jaws PDF Editor I've created a network place for a document library on an WSS site and am trying to open a PDF for editing using Jaws PDF Editor 2.5. I have created a FLDTYPES<*>.XML but the documentation is unclear regarding the FieldTypeClass. It states <Field Name=â??FieldTypeClassâ??> Required string. This represents the strong name of the field type class library. This includes the class name, .dll name, and public key . I have tried both the two commented lines below (seperately -give me a break!) but I still get an error <Field Name="ParentType">Microsoft.SharePoint.SPFieldLookup</Field>   I remembered to iisreset inbetween changes and I have checked the GAC and the Version and key are correct. the error message is The given assembly name or codebase was invalid. (Exception from HRESULT: 0x80131047) Tag: Project Tag: 48848

is there a way to export tasks from Microsoft Project to WSS without
"Microsoft Project Server"?
So you open your Microsoft Project client and you link tasks to WSS. Is
it possible?
