MS list two new downloads for Project Server - one is "Microsoft Windows
SharePoint Services Migration Tool" (i.e. smigrate) dated 29th June 2004.

There's also the "Project Server 2003: Windows SharePoint Services Site
Migration Tool" with the same date.

1. What's the difference
2. Is the first one (smigrate) a new version of smigrate that non-Project
Server but WSS users can use OR the old smigrate with a new date and the
words "Project Server" added a few times to the text to make it "theirs" ?

This message is naturally for someone with better contacts in MS than I (or
in MS themselves) !

P.S. There already was a "Project Server 2003: Windows SharePoint Services
Site Migration Tool" with the same address but with a different date. Both
are called ver 1.0 - are they the same ?????

Hi Mike -

1. Project Server uses smigrate to help migrate sites from Project Server
2002 (running on top of STS v1) to Project Server 2003 (running on top of
WSS v2). The "Microsoft Windows SharePoint Services Migration Tool"
download was put together by the Project Server team and contains the actual
smigrate.exe utility from WSS v2. The "Project Server 2003: Windows
SharePoint Services Site Migration Tool" download was also put together by
the Project Server team and contains their WSSMigr.exe utility that manages
the PS 2002 to PS 2003 migration and calls smigrate.exe to migrate
individual sites.

2. We haven't updated the smigrate.exe utility since RTM, so there are no
new versions of it. It's likely that it's the same download with a new
date. I'm afraid I don't know if "Project Server 2003: Windows SharePoint
Services Site Migration Tool" has changed since its initial release.
