At least three of the last ten posts (and the last two!) both say just
"SharePoint".

Please all of you get in the habit of writing WSS or SPS 2003. (even just
SPS without the 2003 is better that "SharePoint")

There are four SharePoint products - two old, two current and while we can
guess you probably mean one of the two new ones, we can't guess which one.

[No we can't - even if this is the WSS newsgroup, people post here who have
SPS 2003.]

We can help you better and more acurately if we know what you are running
and it's not that difficult surely?

I understand your frustration, but I'm guessing in most cases people
don't know the difference...

Mike,
Had to laugh at your email. We have been going thru the same thing
here. We are constantly telling people, 'Sharepoint is the old
SharePoint (and soon to be dead here) and WSS is WSS'. They are TWO
different products...

Shack (sharing your pain)

Erm Mike,

How can you tell which version you have?

I have SBS2003 and therefore the version of "sharepoint" that is installed
as default with that. I have also upgraded to SQLServer SP3a.

So which one do I have?

TIA

Tony

Re: Please don't say just "SharePoint" - Newbie question by Mike

Thanks for asking this as it is also useful if people who are in fact
running the Project Server 2003 and the SBS 2003 versions of Windows
SharePoint Services

(which is what you have, included in the standard (and pro) SBS 2003)

also tell us that.

These two versions of WSS are extremely similar to the standard downloaded
version of WSS and so for most normal questions the fact that people are
running Project Server 2003 or SBS 2003 doesn't matter.

But there are differences in for instance the way Issues and Risks Lists
look in a Project Server 2003 WSS and the standalone WSS; and there are some
things you get with the SBS 2003 WSS (I always think immediately of Fax
support - missing from any other version - but there are others) that are
different, so the additional info as in

"I am running WSS as part of my SBS 2003"

might help in determining either the solution or whether the question ought
to be posted to the SBS or Project Server newsgroup.

So, please folks, not just not only "SharePoint" but also which version of
WSS you are running. It all helps to speed up responses and to make them
more accurate.

If needed, you could say SPPT (SharePoint Products and Technologies) to talk
about SharePoint generically. Hence:

STS (SharePoint Team Services)
SPS01 (SharePoint Portal Server 2001)
SPS03 (SharePoint Portal Server 2003)
WSS (Web Storage System - still alive in SPS03)
WSS (Windows SharePoint Services)
WSS (??? - wasn't there another use of WSS in the distant past?)
SPPT (SharePoint Products and Technologies)

<g>

And now, for the fun stuff:

IIRC - If I Remember Correctly
BTW - By The Way
AFAIC - As Far AS I'm Concerned
MWIAGG - Mike Walsh Is a Great Guy!
