Web Part display from a different site

WSS 3.0 environment. How do i display a list from one site in a web part on
another site. I want to display the list from a site http://portal/project
to a web part in the http://portal

These are presumably on the same server so that (when in portal) you can
create a Data View Web Part in SPD 2007 that uses the list of the
portal/project site.

Thanks Mike. When I create the Data View Web Part, the only lists I can see
and select as data sources are those in the current site (http://portal).
How can can I see the lists from http://portal/project ?

There's an option "Connect to another Library" (at the bottom of the
Data Source Library and below the drop-down box).

Click that; Add http://portal/project give it the description Project
and OK.

You will now see an additional Site listed ("Project") that you can open
out and you will see the lists from it and can select one of them for
the Data Access Web Part.

Hi.

I cannot find the "Data View Web Part". Can you tell me if that is an
"out of the box" web part, or if that is it's real name?

As is probably clear from the earlier messages in the thread, you create
it when using SharePoint Designer 2007 (or for v2 FP 2003).

In both cases it is accessible via the Data menu item.
