Hello Everybody!

We have a problem opening files (e.g. Excel, Word, Visio, Powerpoint) out of
a document libary with Office XP.

When the user clicks on the document link (name) the file is only opened in
the IE. Our users miss the toolbars.

Furthermore this users arenâ??t able to save the documents back to the
Sharepoint server after editing it.

It would be much nicer if the documents are opened in the office program
(e.g. click on a .doc file opens it in word).

Those users who try this with Office 2003 do not have this problem. They can
simply open the documents in their Office Programs, by clicking on the
document link (name).

Saving the files works fine, as well.

But Office 2003 users have the problem mentioned above with Visio files.

Are there other People who have this problem? Is there any solution for it
already?

Best regards

Thomas

That is by design, only Office 2003 (and we will assume higher) integrate
fully with WSS.

"Edit in Microsoft Word" functionality (with saving back to the site) is
supported in both Office XP (Word 2002) and Office 2003. So if your users
use that menu item instead of just clicking on the document they should be
able to do what they want.

the answer to that is here

(and it's not a *WSS* fix)
