I have a question.
We have Office 2000 upgraded to Office 2003 (Windows 2000 workstations SP4),
bypassing Office XP upgrade altogether. We are deploying SharePoint. Now the
problem I am running into is when users trying to go to the SharePoint site
and attempt to edit an Office document, the drop down to "Edit in Microsoft
"app"" is not available. This is happening to workstations that had an in
place upgrade of Office from 2000 to 2003. But if the workstation is reimaged
and gets a full install of Office 2003 , it works fine. I am just exploring
various scenarios to get this resolved as I do not want to re-image 200
workstations.

Any thoughts.....ideas. thanks

One thing you could check is that Office 2003 is set to support SharePoint.

When a new copy of Office 2003 is installed this is set on by default.

Office XP doesn't have this switched on by default and Office 2K probably
doesn't even have such a setting. So my thinking is that with no such
setting to upgrade, it ignores this on an upgrade.

(You have to run the Office 2003 setup again an the setting is in the Office
common settings part (diffferent but similar name to the above) towards the
end.)

Hi

Where is this setting that you are talking about. "towards the end...", I
updated the Office components, it is still showing up as "Read-Only" when I
open the document in any Office app, and when I use "Save As" option, it does
not display in HTML format to save to a Sharepoint server. It wants to save
locally. Would installing the Sharepoint client resolve this issue ?

Thanks

The setting is "SharePoint Support" (or "Support for SharePoint")

I can't say more right now because I don't have Office 2003 on this machine.

I'll come back to you if there's no other response by the time I'm on
another machine.

Control Panel; Add or Remove Programs; Office 2003 Professional; Change; Add
or Remove Features; Next; Choose Advanced Customization; Office Tools (the
last Choice); Windows SharePoint Services Support - make sure all three
sub-items are on.

I have tried all of that. Still broken.
I decided to reimage the workstation and it is working fine now.
I think since this was a direct upgrade from Office 2000 to Offcie 2003 a
number
of DLLs did not upgrade or was never present to be upgraded. I believe this
was a result of our upgrade bypassing Office XP. Funny thing is, everything
is working fine now that Office 2003 was an install instead of an upgrade. Is
there or are there
individual files that are responsible for this specific functionality ?

Thanks for all your responses.
