I cannot stop nor start the service on the server. It is set to manual, and
it either says "starting" or "stopping" and I cannot change it. I am not
sure what is causing this, but it is making all kinds of issues on Sharepoint
sites. I cannot do a backup, I cannot create an indexer in order to create a
new SSP (which is what microsoft recommended I do, to fix the backup issue).
I am just stuck in limbo, and I do not know what to do.

Can anyone assist?

Thanks

I am running WSS 3.0 with MOSS2007 Enterprise; singler server environment

Sorry but this is a newsgroup for installations of the WSS 2.0 or 3.0
*products* only.

You are running MOSS 2007 and asking about the MOSS search so you are in
the wrong newsgroup. (WSS 3.0 also doesn't have SSP)

Post either to the old SPS 2003 newsgroup

microsoft.public.sharepoint.portalserver

OR to one of the new nesgroups for all SP products, for this question

microsoft.public.sharepoint.setup_and_administration

would be the right one.

Thanks Paula.

I notice in your re-post that you still say

"I am running WSS 3.0 with MOSS2007 Enterprise; single server environment"

To avoid confusion, just say that you are running MOSS 2007 Enterprise
in a single server environment (and don't mention WSS 3.0).

I would expect that a single server isn't going to be enough for the
Enterprise version in production but that's a question for that other
newsgroup ...
