OK, simpler than I thought. I fixed this by going to the IIS on the DC,
browsing Sharepoint Central Administrator, then (not sure here - cannot find
it again but there was a list of checkboxes) - well I found a similar list
under Microsoft Sharepoint Administration (note this is different from
Sharepoint Central Administrator) and in there is a link for "set list of
available rights" One of the rights that need to be given to the user is the
right to delete. Once that was enabled, permission was granted and the
offending item was removed. I can't find the place that I did that again,
but whereever it was, it works. cheesh...
