I have noticed a difference in behavior between the
multiple line fields of a document library andother
lists. In a document library, I am not allowed to save a
record which has more then 255 characters of text in a
multi line field. I have tried this on several document
libraries on multiple servers. There seems to be no
limit in the amount of text you can have in a multiple
line field in other types of lists.

I have also noticed that when adding or modifying a
multiple line field in a document library, there is no
choice to allow rich text editing. That choice exists in
the properties in other lists.

Can anyone confirm this behavior, and explain why there
is this limit? I want to enable users the ability add
their comments on a particular document, and this will
severely limit that ability.

Thanks

Michael

Note that with the new possibility to have Document web sites, there is no
real need to allow either Rich Text or lots of text in document libraries.

The expectation is no doubt that when you are at the stage of Document
discussion you will create a Document Workplace for it, and when you simply
want to store documents (perhaps when the document is finalized) you will
use a document library.

I also need the ability to allow rich text editing in a
multiple line field in a document library and I don't
think that there is no real need! The document library I
want to establish should show details about the documents
like a table of contents, a summary etc. To do this, I
really need richt text editing. Is there a way to enable
this?
