    - Filter data in a datasheet view from URL Hi. Is there any way to filter data from datasheet view directly with url? Something like is made with dispform.aspx that we have dispform.aspx?ID=1. I want to make something similar but I need the datasheet view because of custom formatting, but I would also need filtering with ?ID or some other field. Thanks. WSS SDK out MS have posted what they say is the "July" version of the WSS SDK to http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=1c64af62-c2e9-4ca3-a2a0-7d4319980011&DisplayLang=en although this was published there on the 23rd of September 2004. at least in the WSS FAQ, the version I had listed was from May 2004 so this *could* be a new version. As MS have confused us before with new versions (of this and the Admin Guide) that weren't, could someone from MS please confirm or deny that this is indeed a new version ?     - filename contains characters that are not permitted When importing files, I've noticed several of the following error messages... "An error occurred copying some or all of the selected files." When I tracked down one of these, it then says the filename "contains characters that aren ot permitted. Please use different name," even tho' it doesn't appear to have anything strange. I end up renaming the file to my desktop then uploading it successfully. Anyone have this problem and know what's going on? It seems to be on older files but I haven't completely verified this.     - Possible to run sharepoint services on a different server? Hello: We are buying Windows 2003 Small Business Server and notice it comes with SharePoint services to allow for team collaboration, including over the Internet. We want to put the 2003 SBS machine on our internal network so it will not be accessible from the outside world. Is it possible to deploy the sharepoint services on a machine in a DMZ area instead of on the SBS machine or do I need to buy another product to do that?     - working with a site definition copy to obtain customized look and In efforts to accomplish a common look for all new and most administration pages, I'm preparing to copy the standard 'Team Site' definition to get a 'Dept Team Site' option when creating a new top-level site/collection.     - Programmatically READ List Permissions I want to be able to programmatically read a permission mask and determine if certain permissions are contained within the permission mask. MS's documentation shows how to set it, but then the number that comes back when you read the permission mask's .ToString method is totally useless to me becuase it doesn't tell me anything about what the actual permissions are within the mask.     - Autmoted upload of document to SharePoint Good day! I am looking for a sample script that can be used within a VB.NET/C# application for uploading documents to a specific folder within a document library. Specifically, I have several reports that are generated daily. These reports must be uploaded to the current day's older, Monday, Tuesday, etc. These folders contain the same reports but from the previous week so the existing files need to be overwritten (or deleted before uploading the new versions). The upload process must be automated so that it can be scheduled.     - Adding users to a site under Windows sharepoint services Hi All, This is the situation that I'm seeing and wondered if anyone else has experienced similar behaviour. I create a new sharepoint site by doing the following: create --> Sites and workspaces. I add a site title and description and a web site address. I then set the permissions to be unique. and click create. (the site is created correctly using a blank template) I then want to add new users, so I do the following: Site Settings --> Manage users --> Add Users. for most users, the "Confirm Users" section provides me with three sets of information. namely: an e-mail address (non editable) User Name (editable) Display Name (editable) This is fine. Now comes the problem! I have a particular user in active directory which I add to the site and when I type her details, I end up with the above fields as follows: an e-mail address (non editable) User Name (non editable) Display Name (non editable) note that the user Name and Display name become non-editable. Can anyone explain to me why this is happening? I confirm the details and the user is added with her "Married" name (this is based on her e-mail address) I suspect that the problem might be due to the setup of the user in active directory, but I can't sure. My colleague on the other hand follows the same procedure on his machine. the fields in question are all editable, but the user is added with her "Maiden" name. Strange behaviour!     - Password Changes failing for non-admins Users on my WSS install can change their own password if they are an admin in the subweb they are logged into. However, if they are not an admin, the password change fails. Basically, any time the user is prompted to enter their original password, then the new password, the change doesn't take ("Error changing password").     - Dynamic Menus in Lists I would like to create a list that has a menu with choices, I would then like to have fields on the lower part of the newform.aspx display based on what choice you've selected. I've looked into inserting data web components and have created multiple lists that I would like to tie in to this but I want each list to display on the form based on what is chosen in the selection menu. The whole scenario is we're working on a Help system to handle desktop support, facilities, phone, network, and other issues/departments. I want to gather the person's name, location, desciption, and problem area. Then from problem area I want additional fields to display based on what is chosen. For instance if you select phone from the menu additional fields will display with inputs for old jack#, new jack#, d.i.d, ect... I wouldn't mind creating this lists seperately and then applying a rule/conditional format that states to only display each list when a certain selection is made.     - Connection Timeout problem Iâ??m new to WSS and need some help. I have a Small Business Server with a WSS site shared through the IAS firewall to the internet. From the internet I can access picture libraries fairly consistently on the published site. (Some very large pictures time out.) I canâ??t open files in the Documents, Lists, and Discussions libraries. I keep getting the error â??Page cannot be displayedâ??â?¦ â??100600 Connection Timeoutâ??. I have the same problem trying to add new items to the lists. I can open the page to add content, but I get the timeout no the next page that actually posts the content. If the user have rights in both sites there isn't problems, but if the user doesn't have rights the aspx page ask me the user and password three times and after that shows me the Access denied page.     - 9 things I hate about SharePoint Services Don't get me wrong, I really like Windows SharePoint Services, but like any version 1 product, there's plenty of room for improvement. (I hope the Microsoft guys are listening, because these are things I'd really like to see them address in the near future.) These are things that deal directly with the user experience in WSS and not administration or extensibility. 9. No Gant charts. It would be really nice to be able to create a Gant Chart view of a task list. That functionality would allow better project management. 8. Discussions lists. There's nothing more annoying than attempting to read a discussion thread that is deep. You click on a post to read it and then when you use the back button to return to the main list, everything has collapsed and scrolled to the top. It would be nice if I could at least click on the deepest post and see all of the posts back to the root. 7. No support for summary tasks. I realize that this is venturing into MS Project territory, but if we're going to pretend to use SharePoint in project planning, let's do it right. 6. No support for calendars based on calculated dates. This isn't as big as some of my other items, but it is something that I have found annoying. 5. No granularity in Alerts. There's nothing less useful than an alert that tells me a task item has changed without any indication of what has changed in that item. Along those lines, I'd also like to have the ablility to set up an alert that is only triggered when the status of a given item changes. 4. No personal default view. Each list has a default view that is set by an admin or web designer. It would be nice if a site user could set a different view as their own default so that when they visit the list, they see what they want, not what the web designer fealt was an appropriate default view for the masses. For example, in a task list, a developer probably wants to see "My Tasks", not everyone's tasks. 3. No item change history. It would be very nice if I could turn on a change history for items in a given list. This would allow for a better post-mordem look at what went well or not-so-well on a project. 2. No support for lists of items within a list item. For example, I can add a Hyperlink column to a list item, but I'd like to be able to add a list of hyperlinks to a list item. (If I could do that, I could at least create my own pseudo summary task items :) 1. No Exchange Server integration. Why is it that I have to import a list of contacts from Outlook? Why can't I simply designate an Exchange group and add additional metadata about those users (e.g, add roles for each user.) Likewise, why can't I connect a SharePoint object to an Exchange public calendar? Then updates in one place would appear in the other. This would be nice for users who use SharePoint sites behind a corporate firewall but have access to the Exchange server through Outlook Web Access... no need to create the VPN connection to lookup something in the calendar. It would also allow the roadwarrior with Outlook 2003 to effectively take the calendar with them on the road because of Outlook's local caching. There's some other potential integration points that would be really nice, like integration with an MS Project Server installation or the up-and-coming Visual Studio 2005 Team Services server.     - Virtual server error - no server in the configuration database? I have WSS and SPS. The site is working great, but when i try to configurate my virtual server(for example change maximum file upload), i get error this error message: "The virtual server that is refered to, can not be found in the configuration database(translated from Norwegian)" When i go to "Virtual server general settings", i get this error. But if i go to "manage user rights for the virtual server", at the SAME server. It works?? I did not set up the server, so im right now learning SPS/WSS, but started in the wrong end i guess;).     - Smigrate error Hello, I'm attempting to migrate 2001 Team Services (without portal) to WSS WITH portal. I successfully used Smigrate to backup the data. I have around 60 backup#.fwp files ready to load into WSS with portal. When I attempt to load them I get the following error message. Progress: Finished open service http://blahblah Progress: manifest.xml not found within cabinet Progress: unable to deploy package: unable to locate manifest file I searched the harddrive and indeed there is not a manifest.xml file on the new server.     - Problem editing MS Office files, need help! Hi All: I'm stumped, need help. This problem only occurs across WAN, for LAN everything works fine. Here is the description of the problem: After checking out file from the document library, I used the feature "Edit this file in Microsoft Word/Excel" trying to edit the MS Ofiice document, next thing I know, my IE 6.0 freezed and crashed.     - Different user showing up as author/changed by Yesterday I configured WSS at a customer. Everything works fine exept one peculiar irritating thing. My name, Richard Bruvik, shows up as author of documents that are uploaded to WSS. The users are logged on as themselves, still my name shows up. We are using IE 6.0 with SP1 as the default browser.     - AD Account Creation Mode I've followed the steps in the WSS Admin help file to configure WSS for Active Directory Account Creation Mode. Everything works as planned, until I get to the last step, which is to create a site.     - Putting asp.net applications as under SharePoint Dear Group, I tried creating a virtual directory in IIS underneath WSS which contains an application that is used by a SharePoint webpart.     - Meeting workspaces and outlook task lists One thing I feel like I am not understanding about the design of wss. You can create tasks associated with documents. You can create tasks associated with meeting workspaces. That's great and it makes sense to want that feature. But now, joe user gets to work in AM and says, what am I supposed to do today? He pulls up his task list and ???? Am I missing something? I am hoping so, because what seems to be the answer is that joe user will have to remember all the documents and meeting where s/he has tasks to see when they are due, or where a manager has assigned a new one. I want the ability to specify a path to a folder and return all documents beneath that folder (and subfolders) that satisfy the query. Specifying a recursive query through the SPList returns ALL DOCUMENTS that satisfy the query in the entire document library. I only want the documents beneath the specified folder. Does WSS have this capability? I am using the code below.     - Storing web part data I've created a custom webpart that has dropdown in it. I need to store the selected index of the dropdown, preferably on a per-user basis. I can easily do this using a cookie, but I'd rather have a machine-independent way of doing this. I tried using the WebPartStorage attribute, and that worked fine when I only had one instance of the webpart on a page. But when I added a second, the webparts got confused.     - List with page navigation [1] [2]..Next>? Is have some custom lists that I'd like to display in a page mode with links on the title bar for the page of items to display ([1] [2] [3].. Next>). Is there a web part to to this or some option I can set? I know that I can specify the number of items per page and then WSS will tell me what range of ID's are being displayed and give me a Next page link. Hello,
I have a simple task list with a simple "Assigned to" lookup field
displaying the names of the users's information.
In some cases the names are displayed 2 times, and is also displaying names
of persons that are not anymore in the organization.
The question is: How to delete the duplicated names and the old users?
