    - How to Search Hi, I am a new user that has just started using SharePoint. My situation is as follows: I have uploaded a reference guide that contains a bunch of technical terms onto SharePoint. Originally I created the document in excel, but was able to upload the excel file onto SharePoint. The reason as to why I have uploaded this reference guide onto SharePoint is so that other employees have easy access to the guide when they need to look up technical terms. On SharePoint, the reference guide looks like this: Term Acronym apple app pear pr banana ban app ap The problem that I have is with the search command. When searching, it seems that the Acronym column has a greater weighting than the Term column. However, I would like the Term column to have the greater weighting. If I search for a term, I would like the match to be at the top of the term column instead of the acronym coloumn. Could someone please suggest a way of fixing the weightings. I am not sure if it is a setting that I need to adjust for each column (i.e set one coloumn to 1 and the other to 2). If there is coding involved, do you know where exactly I could find the code I need to adjust on SharePoint.     - WSS 3.0 Backup I am trying to backup my whole farm of WSS 3.0, using the central administration method. The problem i encounter is almost immediate. It fails and gives the message "Object SharePoint - 80 failed in event OnPrepareBackup" I have trawled through this group looking for similar problems, and it seems as though I'm not the only person to come across this problem when backing up, but there does not seem to be any answer to sorting out the problem. I was hoping someone could help me, especially those who've posted with this problem before, to help me resolve this issue.     - WSS 3.0 search (Stemming) Hello, I'm using MOSS 2007, WSS 3.0, SQL Server 2005 on a medium farm (2 front-end, 1 index server, 1 SQL Server 2005) Does the stemming feature exists in the WSS 3.0 search? It supposed to be working based on this site: http://www.wrox.com/WileyCDA/Section/id-305250.html "The search engine is using a type of search called FREETEXT; this type of search uses a feature called stemming." But I'm trying it on my installation and it's not working... Does something needs to be activated for this to work? Could anyone confirm me that this should work.     - SPD and Active Directory Has anyone seen SPD trying to pass AD credentials from the local machine instead of the AD credentials the user enters into SPD when connecting to a web site? We're operating in a split environement where workstations running SPD are operating in domain "A" but web servers we're working on are in domain "B". We can enter the domainB\username & password into SPD when opening a web site but somwhere underneath SPD seems to be passing the machine's local domain A credentials to the web server (which are not correct) and the domainB account gets locked out...     - Permissions to not be able to edit a web part yet still edit the list I do not want users to be able to modify, close, or edit a webpart. Yet it appears the ability to edit a list's contents is the same edit permission as it is to modify a web part. So basically I want them to be able to contribute to a list but not edit or close the webpart that is displaying that list. Any ideas?     - Time card management : User closed "punch out" web part I created a site using the Time Card Management template. A user is using this to track their daily activity by punching in and out with their projects. Works great. However, after they clicked "punch out" they closed the next screen's web part where you click ok. Since this 'punch out' web part is not a standard web part, how would I put back in place this web part? I tried looking at sharepoint designer but still didn't see it. Any ideas?     - AD name change in 2.0 I have run into an issue with WSS 2.0 regarding security. An AD group was applied to the site, and then the named was changed in AD. However WSS doesnâ??t show that new name under manage users in â??domain groupsâ?? column, but it is reflected in the â??user nameâ?? column. Any configuration changes done in the Central Administration server return this error message. Changing the service accounts back to the defaults haven't fixed this error.     - Programmatically add a wss subsite using the object model - two issues remaining I've created an event handler that fires when a new item is created in a list, and automatically creates a new subsite based on the parameters to the list. This works almost fine, but I have two issues that I hope someone can help me with. 1) Permissions Since my subsite does not inherit permissions I need to create the Owner, Member and Visitors groups and add the appropriate permissionlevels. I'm having problem adding the creator to the Owner group. My code: // Add current user to owner group SPUser user = parentWeb.Users.GetByID(properties.CurrentUserId); newWeb.AssociatedOwnerGroup.AddUser(user); newWeb.AssociatedOwnerGroup.Update(); The code runs, and I get no error, but the user is not added to the group. I hope some of you might have a tip for me? 2. Navigation I would like the subsites to be added to the parent site's top link bar that same way that they are when they are created using the ui wizard and you choose to display this site in the top navigation bar of the parent area. I'm able to create a new node in the parent TopNavigation bar, but if I do this the link is visible to everyone and not just the users that have access to the subsite.     - security issue - Unknown zone (Mixed) Hi All, My sharepoint server is under the Trusted zones in my IE7 browser. When entering a doc lib I see the Trusted zone icon in the status bar. (with green V icon) When I change view in a Doc Lib to explorer view the security changes to unknown zone (mixed) and pop up the user/password Login window. Entering the credentials let me work OK.     - Domain change on WSS 2.0 server Hi all, I'm sorry for my bad English, but I hope you will be understand my problem. The situation is the next: My company "abc" bought an another company "xyz". We want to migrate their domain to the our xyz->abc. They have WSS2.0 with SP2 installed at one of member server, and have installed a custom 3rd party application on it also. The config and content DB is on the 3rd SQL2000 server and uses a domain account xyz\account for WSS and for custom WSS based application. The WSS application pools - Default and the STSAdmin AppPool - uses a domain account and the SharePoint Timer Service use the same domain account too xyz\account. I am new in WSS, and therefor I am not sure in some points. After domain migration what steps are required to do except of these (plz. correct them if I'm wrong) ? 1 - Change the Application Pools accounts manually 2 - Change the services "run as" account manually 3 - In SQL management console, add the permissions for new domain user account abc\account 4 - By configuration settings, change WSS admin group from xyz\account to abc\account (or I think this can be made by stsadm.exe parameters..) 5 - Change the users access permissions on all sites, subsites, lists, doclibs. Is it possible to make this automatically somehow? Please comment these steps, and/or write your suggession about this AD migration, and your opinion about the impacts on WSS sites. Thank you! We created an Sharepoint Services Intranet site for our office and on that we created a web page using the Project Tracking web part. On that page I created a Public View that sorts on a column we created called Task Order. Task Order column is defined as a "Single line of text" with a max of 8 characters and on the public view is sorted in Ascending order. For some reason that column sorts in the following order: symbols, numbers, letters with no case sensitivity (example: sorts Task Orders starting with ~ first, 1 second, i third and T last). I expected it to sort on ASCII code order 1 (hex 31), T (hex 54), i (hex 69) and then ~ (hex 7E).     - WSS and SSEE Search Hi, I can't seem to get search working with WSS and SSEE. I have the search bar on all of my sites but when i search for anything nothing is ever returned. I don't see an error on the page, it just shows no results. I have a very similiar dev environment setup in which the search works. I don't recall doing anything to get search working on my dev environment but it does. I was considering installing SQL Server 2000 and setting up full text indexing to get the search to work. But it is still confusing that search doesn't work as is. Thanks, Rohit Below is my post: Hi All, I made some improvement regarding restoring site from .fwp files. There were some 150+ .fwp backup files (each averaging around 20-30 MB) which were numbered in sequential fashion. I ran smigrate program to restore these files into SharePoint Portal Server 2003 blank site (created by using SharePoint services which comes along with portal server). The restoration starts fine (takes around 40 minutes) performing various tasks and then comes to a section where it has to upload files into the site. It successfully uploads around 2000+ files before encountering a problem. There around 16000+ files which needs to be uploaded (according to smigrate console message). Smigrate keeps out putting this message "Web server is busy. Please try again. Retrying, bad file <lists the file name>" This message keeps repeating for rest of the 14000+ files (I think so..never had a chance to verify this). It then proceeds with successful site restoration message before coming out of the smigrate. Nobody is using the web server as I am restoring this site to a dedicated server with plenty of HDD space and 1 GB RAM. Smigrate is the only program working with the web server for site restoration. I also checked the site settings on the web server and everything looked fine. I have set the connections to unlimited in the IIS. I haven't applied Service Packs to SharePoint Portal Server 2003 or SharePoint services. Do you think the above problem was because SP was not applied? Or was something else wrong? Can somebody please guide me on this? I am worried about someone getting mad and going through and deleting all of my pages one day. It seems foolish of MS not to have taking this into consideration.     - Data View: how to follow lookup field link to document? Hello My scenario: I'm on Sharepoint 2007 Portal Server. I have a custom list, HRPolicy. In this list there is a lookup field - policy - that lets the user select a document from a document library, HRPolicies. On a page I have added a Data View Web Part to show the information from the list HRPolicy. By default the value of the field policy is formated as text only. I would like to have it as a hyperlink that displays the document when click, exactly as if you were to add a list directly as a web part. How can this be accomplished? I have tried to use the ddwrt:URLLookup using the GUID of the list, the field and the ID, but this doesn't work.     - Missing AllItems.aspx contents I did not think this was possible from GUI, but a user managed to delete the ListViewWebPart in the PlaceHolderMain(Custom) so that the AllItems.aspx page of a Library has nothing (no web part, ergo no Toolbar, no View: selection) and no way to undo that I can find. He was simply trying to delete folders he created. I know enough to open SharePoint Designer, look at the page and compare it to another Library to see what is missing and tell you it is the ListViewWebPart in the PlaceHolderMain(Custom) spot, but I don't know enough to get it back. (Just learning SPD on my own) If I add the Library web part (Edit Page, Add Web Part) from the GUI like I might add to the home page to display the Library, I don't get the View: drop down menu. (btw, there are no Closed web parts). If I copy the ListViewWebPart from my new view (see next) from in SharePoint Designer, I just get my new view not the original All Items that I want back. I created another AllItems which got named AllItems1.aspx, so the site users can get to the documents. Two issues with that view. It does not show the folders that still exist (just docs), and "View:" drop down does not show All Items (the original) as a selection though it does show Explorer View as a selection. For example we know for a fact that several users viewed Doc file but it shows 0 hits for it. I did a â??controlledâ?? experiment myself. I created 3 files in document library â?? ASPX, PDF and DOC. For next several days I was opening each one equal number of time, using different accounts and recorder what I did it each day. No one except me and 2 test accounts has access to test files. When I looked at the usage report, the hits for ASPX were matching what I did, but for DOC and PDF they were â??god knows whatâ??. I have WSS 2.0 and SP Portal Server 2003.     - Having a list linked to another list? I know you can create a "lookup" link field in a list which works great. But if I have two lists and one list has id, name, address and another list has id, salesperson, number of calls.     - Seeing activities from another site? In designing our company WSS 3 site, I have a "home" site and a "products" site for product announcements and information. When I post a products announcement on that site, is there a way for this to also display on the home site? I've noticed in designing that getting "too deep" is something that I have to becareful about. Otherwise people won't know what is going on. Any recommendations? Should I post all announcements, even for other sites, on the home site or should is there a way to post announcements on my product site and see it also on the home site?     - Can't edit images in picture library - please help! Hi! We are using WSS 2003, Office 2003, and IE 6.0. In explorer view, I cannot open jpgs. I used to be able to do so in WPFV (windows picture and fax viewer). SP tries to use PM (Picture manager), though my default viewer is WPFV. PM shows an error due to group policy. It can't open pix in a picture library. In all documents view I can open jpgs in the browser Once a few folders into the tree, I cannot switch views from explorer to "all documents" without getting an error.     - Wiki Docuement Templates My company is using the SharePoint WSS v3 wiki functionality to capture corporate knowledge. We have have experts, who know a things about things, write "articles" in a wiki document library. One requirement was to give the experts article templates from which to choose from when writing the articles. I'm posting this topic to get opinions from people who know what will work to meet this requirement. My way was to add javascript to the CreateWebPage.aspx file which redirects the user to a custom_CreateWebPage.aspx based on the requested url. The user only gets redirected if they are navigating to a specific wiki doc lib. I did this because while I was able to implement a feature that redirects the user to a custom_EditCreateWebPage.aspx, I could never get the feature to work for the CreateWebPage.aspx To get an article template for the user, in the custom_CreateWebPage.aspx, I added javascript which called a web service I created that returned a string containing an Article Template. Next, I used javascript to write the string on the Wiki Text field. This works, but I am concerned that I made it too complicated or that basically there is a better way. Any suggs?     - stsadm vs sql server backup Running WSS 2.0 and SQL Server 2000. We have a simple setup, one server, one database, and everything under one site collection. In terms of disaster recovery, I'm trying to figure out the difference between backing up using stsadm and creating one backup file every night or just using the sql server backup. The sql server backup runs every night regardless. From what I've read it appears that I should be able to restore everything from the sql server backup, is that true? Do I miss anything going with the sql server backup vs stsadm? What about 3rd party web parts? Does stsadm do anything this these or do these have to be reinstalled? Hello All

I recently replaced my SQL server with a new one and had a joyous time
getting SharePoint to move over. I had to recreate the configuration
databases with clean ones. Every since then I started getting an error in my
application logs from WSS looking for the config database on the old database
server. The error happens twice every five seconds!

I checked SP Central Admin and confirmed that it has the new server name and
configuration database listed. There is something hiding around looking for
the old server name. Any suggestions on where to look would be appreciated.
