    - USA - Users Group in DC/VA Metro area I am currently in the organization phase of starting a Sharepoint Users group for the DC/VA Metro area in the USA. This group would support end-users, power-users, developers and the just-curious. As with any other group, there would be monthly meetings.     - Sharepoint Services and NLB Error Hi, I have Windows 2003 Server Enterprise Edition with SP1 configured in a NLB mode. SPS 2003 is running web and search components on these two servers. Each of the Server is running the web and search component. Sharepoint Services is runinng 6.02.6411 version. When I open a browser and access the virtual IP address , it gives a login Pop-up and after I put the correct credentials , it gives me a page not found error. If I continue to refresh the page for couple times, the sharepoint portal site loads of fine. The portal site is installed of the Default Web Site and I have tried the Default Website running on both the virtual IP and the ALL unassigned in IIS. But whenever I access the sharepoint portal site by accessing a particular node, it works fine. To make sure that NLB is working fine, I created a generic site with a html page and its works fine.     - adding items to a document library Hi, I receive the following error when I tried to create a new item to put within a list: "To add an item to a document library, use SPFileCollection.Add()" From what I undestand, the SPFileCollection Add method is used to upload a file in a document library, which is not what I want to do. I only want to create an item and put a file as an attachment to it... How can I achieve this?     - How to customize the look of the Calendar Hello, my apologies if this has already been answered but I have not yet found an answer. I would like to customize the Calendar. Is it possible to do this using FrontPage? For example, I would like the text of the items that appear in the calendar to wrap. Currently, only about 16 or so characters are visible. My users want to be able to quickly glance at the calendar and see what the items are without having to open an item or hover over it to see what the rest of the text is. I appreciate the help.     - Version Restore No File with URL Hello! I have a document library with version tracking enabled. There is a spreadsheet within this document library that needs to have a previous version restored. When Restore is selected from the dropdown menu for the file in the Versions listing, the following error appears: There is no file with URL '<Name of DL>/<Name of File>' in this Web. But, but...huh? I created a test document library with version tracking turned on and put a brand new spreadsheet with a small amount of data in it. I changed the spreadsheet and then restored the prior version without any problems. I also created a document library in which I uploaded the file mentioned in the error above. The same error occurred on the new library when trying to restore a prior version. It seems to be tied to the file, but I am not totally convinced of that.     - SharePoint Services and FrontPage 2002 Server incompatibilities Hi all... I have a client computer that uses VS.NET and Front Page Server Extensions 2002. On the other hand, I have a server where I had Front Page Server Extensions and hosting web pages (programmed in ASP.NET). Well.. I have uninstalled Front Page Server Extensions in order to install SHAREPOINT Services. After installing it, I cannot connect to the server using VS.NET anymore. It says that Front Page 2002 cannot connect to a more recent version. How can I continue developing applications using VS.NET on a server extended by SharePoint Services?     - Modify a user with stsadm? I am using WSS 2.0 w/ SP1. I added 300 users with a script using stsadm. I now realize I created the Users's Display Name in the wrong format (created John Smith but it should be Smith, John). I am looking for a way to modify the users display name with stsadm but I can't see a way to modify this field with stsadm. Anyone have a solution.     - Page on WSS Site cant make up its mind what to display? I've created a list (referrals) on my sharepoint site then wanted to change the format of the view. I went into FrontPage Converted it to an XSLT and did my changes. Now when you first load the page the Title of the page shows up as 'Our Families', which is another list, then you hit F5 to refresh and it changes to 'Referrals' hit F5 again and it could be either. Check it out: http://www<dot>redthreaddreamers<d o t>com The list contents is always the 'Referrals' content. though the name changes between 'Referrals' and 'Our Families' when it displays 'Our Families' the links on the left nav bar are also related to the 'Our Families' list. A buddy of mine on a different sharepoint site (though the same Server) wanted to also modify a list, and the same type of issue is happening to him. Is there something we are missing?     - WSS Migration to another domain We have 2 independent domains - no trusts or anything - never will be. Domain A = WSS in Account creation mode install Domain B = WSS not yet installed but will be using normal install mode (not account creation mode) Question: --------- We need to migrate WSS an its DB from Domain A to Domain B.     - Domain\username prompt We have 2 domains parent.com and child.parent.com wss is installed on a server in the child.parent.com and is working fine. I can pass through fine when connecting through the parent domain. But if I am on a server in the child domain it prompts me for a username and password. Not sure why it is not passing authentication throught. when it prompts the use sername is the DNS entry that we added for the redirect to sharepoint (sharepoint.parent.com) Antother thing that is odd is that the account that sharepoint was originally installed under never gets prompted it passes right through.     - Application pool Permission problem in Sharepoint sites Hi gurus..... I installed WSS 2.0 on my WS2003SE. The default website is extended during installation and is working fine. However, when I create new sites with new application pools (so that if one crash won't affect others) running as Network Service, I always get a cannot access configuration database error. If I change the application pool to run as Local System, then everything is fine. What is wrong and how can I fix it so that the app pool can run as Network Service as it should?     - customizing with AlternateHeader property hi group! I wanted to edit some files in the _layouts/1031 folder to customize my sharepoint sites that are included in my sharepoint portal server. I found that the sites could use the "AlternateHeader" propery due to this code: if (alternateHeader == null || alternateHeader == "") Nevertheless the alternateHeader property seems not to be set because the code below <TR> <TD COLSPAN=3 WIDTH=100%> .... gets executed - so I had to make my changes in this code.     - A default theme applied (using front page) to sharepoint site does not change the looks of default links on quick launch()eg., documents, pictures, lists etc). Hi Group I applied a default theme to the share point site using front page 2003 (theme name : 'In Motion'). The default links on the sharepoint site such as documents, pictures, lists remain unchanged ... but the links present on navigation tool bar acquire the theme site with full fidelity (the colour of links changes when we hover mouse over them, also they are broader and of completely different look). As a result, I have got two kinds of links present on the left hand veticle side of same home page that seems to be very ugly. Is there a way to apply theme to the quick launch tool bar items as well? Also, can we alter the theme applied to sie? eg, change the size, font etc. of links? Any input will be highly appriciated. By pasting in the url grabbed from the meeting-specific view of that list, I am navigated to the "next nearest" meeting on the workspace.     - scroll position on reload of page viewer webpart I have an asp application for drill down graphs. I have WSS. I use the page viewer web part to display the graph page . At top of graph page is a summary below summary is the drilldown graph positioned about 500px from top. The user clicks on graph to drill down to next level. All levels are on same page, using a select statement to display the graph appropriate for the drilldown level. So after the click the page reloads, new summary on top and graph below it. Problem is that the page scrollbar immediately positions half way down, the position at which the user had clicked on the graph, I want the page to load at scroll position top. When I test the asp application the page loads at top. I thought this was the default behavior. But in WSS using the web part, the web page inside the part loads at top but the WSS patge with the web part has scrolled down to the position of the graph where the user click retaining the last clicked position. How can i change that? WSS is not doing the default behavior and reload page at top, it is saving the height position of the scroll bar when page reloads.     - Intranet permissions We would like to use WSS for our Intranet and are using Active Directory for authentication. However, there are a select few that need access but don't have AD accounts. They would be accessing the page via the Internet and SSL. Is there a way for the external users to access the page without an AD account (anonomous access is not possible, remember this is an intranet). I wouldn't think that I could set up a 'local' account in Sharepoint that would do the trick. If this isn't possible, can I create a limited AD account that will work? i.e., one that wouldn't allow them to login to the domain, only the site. Thanks!     - Problem in CopyTo Method of SPFolder Class Hi, I want to Copy One Folder to another Folder with in same site(particularly in Shared Documents). I'm using CopyTo method of SPFolder Class. I have Source Folder Object and Destination Folder URL. Before copying i'm checking both the Source and Destination Folder objects are Not null and both Folders are exists. If exists and not null then by using CopyTo method of SPFolder class i copying folder. Problem is if the source folder is having any files (or) folders then it's not copying.     - DataView with same functionality as a regular list Using a regular WSS list, I have the ability to "edit in datasheet". When I modify the list to make it a DataView, I loose some critical List functionality. When you click on the icon to open the system displays the Content/Index/Search tabs with items to select.     - Link MetaData Is there a way that I can take an issues list and push the metadata within an item into the metadata fields of a document in a library? Each time that the issues list is updated, the meta data associated with the corresponding document in a document library (linked by issue ID number) should be updated. A similar thing can be done using web part connections, but It is necessary for the metadata in the document to be persistent, not just a view of the two combined. Any ideas?     - Expiration Date Hello, I'm trying to create a filter that hides all documents that have been uploaded for thirty or more days. I've tried making a calculated column called "Date Created" that takes the [Created] date and adds 30 to it, but it fails with the message "One or more column references are not allowed, because the columns are defined as a data type that is not supported in formulas.". I've also tried to create a "Date and Time" column that stored "Today's date" and add thirty to that. This works great, until someone realizes that they can modify the [Date Created] field to something outrageous (30 Dec 2999) to push the expiration date back. These are the only two ways that I've found (through trial-and-error and surfing newsgroups and such) to accomplish what I'm trying to do. So I figure I need to do one of two things: 1. Find a way to access the [Created] column. or 2. Find a way to make the [Date Created] column Read-Only. Is there anyone out there who can help me with either of these? It's very frustrating. Thanks.     - uploading folders I already posted this thread in sharepoint.windowsservices.development, but that was the wrong group, so here is my problem: I like to upload structures of directories with their files into a doc.lib in Sharepoint. To be clear: I have a structure as below on my C-drive: A (root) B, C, D (subfolders of A) B1, B2, B3 (subfolders of B) files in B1. Normally I can upload multiple files (if Office11 has been installed on my box), so all the files in B1 can be uploaded to the doclib, but I like to upload the complete structure, so in the doclib a folder was created, named A, then the subfolders B,C and D were created and so on.     - Modifying MySite design for all users. I need to modify the initial MySite design for all users on a Sharepoint Portal Server. This is for users that have not created their MySite yet. When I create a list using the Calendar template, I get the Outlook
Link button; however, when I create a list using the "custom" option
and then create an additional calendar "view", I don't get the button.

Any idea why I'm not getting the button with the list's calendar view?
