Install failure

I uninstalled Office 2007 Sharepoint Beta and used the uninstall tool to
remove previous versions; now i'm not able to install WSS 3.0. How do I
troubleshoot an installation?
1. Where are the logs located?
2. What should i look for in the logs?
3. All I have on the Windows 2003 server is .net 2.0 and mom client.
4. Where can I find the blogs with some detailed information about the ins
and outs that don't get published in MS support?
Any help will be appreciated.

When I installed (on several machines) WSS 3.0 on servers that had been
running Beta versions, I removed *everything* from that server (and
re-booted) before I did so. All installations then worked

So I for instance also removed .Net Framework 2.0.

All that I had left was the IIS assignment which I (only) checked was
present before doing the WSS installation with first step .Net Framework
3.0.

Your situation (removing MOSS 2007 and then trying to install WSS 3.0) is
slightly different but I would at least try removing both your .NET
framework 2.0 and your mom stuff

Hello DLS,

Logs are located in _/webserver extensions/12/logs

What error are you recieving? Install .Net 3.0 and have another shot at it.

It errors before it gets the chance to write any logs. Here is a copy of the
error message on the dialog:

Does this make any sense? I'm installing on a virtual server.

My take is that this is the key part of that

"Thank you for participating in the Beta program. You must uninstall all
pre-release products in a specific order before you can continue with setup.
"

i.e. you haven't deleted enough before starting the WSS v3 installation - as
I wrote above I have always first removed everything is sight including .NET
Framework 2.0.
