Per, you're thinking MOSS, there is no "Complete" for WSS 3.0 installs (the
link you provide also points to a MOSS install explicitly, which won't
entirely help here).
For WSS 3.0, you ("you" meaning the original poster) must choose Advanced,
then select Web Front End. If it is a single server, then you will be
creating a new server farm (basically a farm of one) during configuration--
which will allow you to specify the details concerning the SQL server,
service accounts, etc.
What you did after choosing Advanced, was select Stand-alone, which,
somewhat ironically, triggers a Basic install (which installs that SSEE
database you don't want). You must do a Web Front End install in order for
the SharePoint installer to realize that you don't want to install SSEE, and
that you want to configure your database information manually.
