After installing WSP on a Win2003 box, the Sharepoint
site does not appear, I get a "page cannot be displayed"
flag, no other problems indicated. Asp.net extensions are
permitted, help is appreciated, TKS,

It's "WSS" not "WSP".

Can you confirm that your "Win2003 box" is NOT Web Edition.

Also that along with ASP.NET (correct) you did not specify FP SE.

The Win2003 server is "standard" edition, STSV2.exe used
to install, no install problems indicated, but SharePoint
site not visible when installation complete. Event viewer
indicates could not load "Isapi filters" and "1.1.4322
Aspnet_isapi.dll". How to resolve not apparent? Help is
appreciated,

I think this is something I've just added to the WSS FAQ (spotted the
reference to 1.1.4322) look at item III.85 and see if it applies.

P.S. It won't apply if you installed Win 2003 Server on an empty machine;
then Application Server role with ASP.NET only and then the download, but as
that always seems to work, I suspect you have something else installed too
