I would like to try an in-place upgrade of WSS2 with MSDE to WSS3 on my
current web server.
I have non-WSS web site that currently coexist with WSS2.
My current WSS2 sites are modest.
My dedicated Web Server consists of W2k3 SP1 Standard Edition. It does not
yet support ASP.NET 2.0, but I would like it to.

Can I be reasonably confident of a successful in-place upgrade? I have read
alot of bad press here and elsewhere.
Can in upgrade to WSS3 and still have non-WSS web site coexist?
I would like to incorporate ASP.NET 2.0 applications along with WSS3 and the
non-WSS web sites. Is this possible?

What happens to MSDE, is it replaced by SQL Express Edition?
I don't currently use Microsoft SQL Server, but would like to add a
dedicated MS SQL Server in the future.

Thank You.

Just picking up on this

The MSDE used by WSS 2.0 was actually WMSDE = (Windows)MSDE and was a
version of MSDE 2.0 that had no database size limits and no throttling but
was restricted to being used only for WSS databases on the same server as
WSS (and to be exact also could support "windows components").

The database used by the basic installation of WSS 3.0 is similar in that it
is a similarly special version of SQL Server 2005 Express without the
database size limits - it is no called "Windows Internal Database" haven't
been previous called "embedded SQL Server 2005 Express (Windows)"

If I'd wanted to comment on the other questions, I wouldn't have just picked
the one bit I felt I was able to answer.

That's the way it works .... Sorry.
