Can anyone tell me how to make the company web accessable
from the internet when I am using a split DNS and NAT. I
have the host files setup but it doesn't seem to work.
Thanks

Hi,
The supported way of doing this is with 2 virtual servers sharing the same
WSS content database.
See http://www.wssdemo.com/redir.aspx?url=20
(this url is a shortcut to
http://www.msdn.microsoft.com/library/en-us/spptsdk/html/tsmSPSiteSelfServiceCreateSite1.asp?frame=true
which may get wrapped in your news reader and not work)

Ian,
I ma no programmer so I don't think I fully understood
your response, but I think the code you pointed me too
was to create another sharepoint site. I know how to do
this already. The real problem with the original or
company web is getting the host header stuff to work. I
believe because the internet host resolves the host
header to a NATed address and the internal client
resolves the host header to an internal unNated address
is where the problem lies. Thanks for you help though.

Glenn,

When you are referring to "company web" are you referring to the companyweb
included in SBS 2003? If so, then to access it externally then you will
need to make sure that TCP Port 444 is accessible to the SBS server.. If
you are using https to connect to a web site in IIS then you need to ensure
that the name you are using in https://fqdn matches the name in the
certificate's common name, you resolve to the IP address needed and are
connecting to the port the site is listening on. For example.. if I
created a certificate for SBS's companyweb with the name
www.tailspintoys.com, then I to connect to it from the Internet I would need
to use the following

https://www.tailspintoys.com:444

https to use SSL, www.tailspintoys.com to match the cert's common name, port
444 which is the port that SBS's companyweb is configured to use.

If you have SBS 2003 Premium Edition with ISA 2000, then here's a link to an
article with the steps on how to publish companyweb through ISA.

Perhaps while you are at it you could also advise him that the SBS newsgroup
is the best place to ask SBS questions.

Most people visiting this newsgroup (for WSS) have no experience of doing
anything you have just mentioned.

Thanks Mike..

Was just noticing that my signature on this machine didn't have the
different SBS newsgroups listed on the bottom.. As Mike mentioned, for SBS
related questions you may want to post into the newsgroup for the version of
SBS you are using.

SBS v4.x: microsoft.public.backoffice.smallbiz
SBS 2000: microsoft.public.backoffice.smallbiz2000
SBS 2003: microsoft.public.windows.server.sbs

A useful list, I thought there was only one (.windows.server.sbs).
"BackOffice" is going back a bit :)
