Hi
I am getting the follwoing error "Cannot connect to the configuration
database" when trying to open a WSS site.
It was working fine and just happened suddenly. I have tried to follow the
knowledge base article but it was not helpful.
Please help..

Yes, I agree with Adam, you need to check the account first. From the
error, it seems WSS cannot connect to the database with current account and
password. In WSS Central Administration, enter "Set Configuration Database
Server", and check the information here, for example, if the database
server is alive, and if the account here can access the database.

Make sure that the account you were using to connect previously hasen't
changed passwords etc.

Also along with Adam's suggestion make sure your application pools are
running. I ran into something similar recently on my VM environment when I
was testing some new Site Def's and found that my app pools were in a
stopped state.
I guess it also makes sense to also take a look at SQL and see if any
changes were made there..... I am working at a company that has DBA only
access to the SQL box and they are always breaking something :)
