    - Trouble extending Virtual server When I extend a virtual server (using host header names). I get a page that says Access denied. Then when I go to the sites URL I get this message "The Web site that is referenced here is not in the configuration database."     - Error: Adding user to OU FAILED. I am setting up a test of the "Server Farm" configuraion. When I try to add a new site the operation ends telling me it "cannot complete this action", and when I check the event log I see a message saying: "#1e0046: Adding User "xxxxx6" to OU "SharePoint Users" in domain "YYYYYYY" FAILED with HRESULT -2147467259. I have set up the administrator account following directions in the "Microsoft Windows SharePoint Hosting Configuration and Experience" white paper so, in theory, the STSAdmin account should have rights to add users.     - Frontpage 2003 crashes :-( Note: I've already uploaded two crash reports. I have a customized grouped/filtered Data View Web Part on my site http://playground.doesntexist.org to show the announcements list which is called "Archive". Today I went into FrontPage 2003 (RTM) to change the grouping to collapse all entries by default. As soon as I hit the ok button after the change FrontPage crashes.     - Hyperlinks from Data View Hi, I have a SharePoint site in which I am creating custom pages with FP 2003. I am using Data View to display a list on a Web Page that I created. I have a field in the list which contains a URL which points to another site. I insert the field as a Hyperlink, but Sharepoint appends the current Web Page library to the beginning of the my Hyperlink.     - Help me out here.... I know I'm going to get replies saying that I shouldn't do this, but.... Since there is no way to create an Event Handler for a normal list (other than doc libraries), I have come up with this solution: Wrote my code in .NET, and will use a DTS Package in SQL to reference it. Will then use a Trigger on the UserData table so that when new data is added for a specified list, it will start the DTS Package. Everything works fine when using the Trigger for an UPDATE on the UserData table, but if I use INSERT in my Trigger, then the WSS site gives a SQL Error when I add info to a list. It will go ahead and add the record to the database and site, but still returns the error. MY QUESTION: Why is it giving this error? I know that I am changing how the database is used by WSS, but I am using an AFTER trigger, not an INSTEAD OF, so WSS shouldn't worry about this.     - WSS WebService Login in C# I am trying to write a very simple test WinForm app to see what I can get from WSS using its Web Service interfaces. All I'm trying to do is connect to the server and draw down something from a list to start with. Once I get the basic connection sorted I'll progress from there. However I keep getting a 401 unauthorised error when trying to connect to our hosted WSS server. I am passing my own WSS login credentials (which have site admin rights).     - DataView Master/Detail and target frame (already post in sharepoint.development but i found this ng more appropriate) Well maybe i'm dumb but i can't realize how to do this (and i've read all the ng on the earth...) It's really simple to connect two dataview with fp2003 even if the detail dataview is on another page. But what i want to do is open the detail dataview on a new window/frame (and possibly a light frame, not all the ie stuff). I tried to simply change the target attribute in the <a> tag in the dataview but it doesn't work as it call actually the __dopostback function. So it's this function that open the page in the same frame. How to change it ??? I had success with the "default target frame" property in the page settings (set it to _blank) but a new windows is opened whatever the link, not only de dataview. So it's not clean.     - servername with invitation I have a SBS2003 domain, and a memberserver (win2003) in it with WSS on it. Users contact me from outside through ISA server by URL www.domain.biz. It works fine. ISA server passes through the request and STSSERVER answers But in the invitation (when I add a new user) and with sending alerts the email message contains the name STSSERVER in stead of www.domain.biz.     - HTML References, URLs in MS Excel to Sharepoint Reports... I have two columns in my MS Excel report, FILE NAME and URL. File Name is short description of a linked document on the Internet, URL is the path of the document.     - Sharepoint on the same server as SUS Hello, I have a windows 2003 server that I have been running SUS on for a few months. Last week I installed Sharepoint and created some sites. I went to approve the updates on the SUS server http:\\server\susadmin and it gives a 404 error. I have tried reinstalling the SUS server multiple times with the same result. The required application may not be installed properly, or the requested document could not be opened. Please ensure the necessary application is installed and that the path to the document is correct.     - Checked-out docs Read-Only When we check documents out of a document workspace, or just click on Edit Document in MS Excel (or Word or whatever), the documents always launch as Read-Only. This is a pain, because when they are changed, we need to save them somewhere locally, then upload and overwrite the document on the SharePoint site. Seems to defeat the purpose of SharePoint.     - Login prompt for a few users... I have a W2K3 server running WSS and the main page has a Sign-In button that will verify the domain\name of users. Users login to the network on an NT 4.0 PDC. This works fine for just about everybody, but I have a couple of users who are prompted to login when they try to sign- in and it will invariably lock their PDC account without recording a security event that about a failed login. However, if I sign in these users on a Terminal Server session and got o the WSS site, they can sig-in and everything works fine. I surmize from this that their is a registry setting or something on their local system that is preventing their domain/name to pass in to the WSS system.     - Replacing WSS document management functionality We have a huge library of documents in Hummingbird DM (PCDOCS). We really like Windows Sharepoint Services--Microsoft has done a wonderful job, but for it to be really useful, we would have to replace the native document management functionality in WSS with that of Hummingbird DM. So, whenever a document is checked in to WSS, we check-in to PCDOCS rather than into a WSS document library. Similarly, documents would be checkout of PCDOCS, but for example, the view of documents in a PCDOCS library would be through the standard WSS document library interface. Additionally, we will be upgrading to Office 2003, so we will also want to keep that WSS integration. I know I can just write a Web Part to interface with PCDOCS, but I also want all of that cool Sharepoint functionality. The problem, as I see it, is two fold. The first is that the events (check-in, check-out ...) exposed by the Sharepoint object model are asynchronous--the functionality can be supplemented, but not replaced; the second being that there is no obvious way to reference a document once it is stored by Sharepoint.     - search results I'm a little confused by search results. There are list items and there are documents. I don't see a difference. When I search for a word, the same document appears under list items and documents, so it seems redundant. My site is just a bunch of form libraries, so maybe if I had other types of lists this would make more sense. I'm thinking about editing the search page so that list items won't appear.     - Propegating custom properties to WSS doclibs I know, this has been hashed through a few times by Mike, myself and others but there's some new info that I thought I would share. With Office documents, there is a set of standard properties (title, author, company, etc.) that are not propagated to the WSS doc libs (except for title). This is by design for the current release of WSS. There is also a set of custom properties. These are things like DocumentNumber, etc. and available from the custom tab on the properties dialog in an Office document. These ARE propagated to a WSS document library but there's a bit of a catch (that a MS guy and I found today). First, as in Mikes FAQ on this, you need to create columns in your document library to match those in the custom tab (these can be the ones Office provides by default or your own). Next, you MUST (and here's the important part kids so pay attention) upload your document through the explorer view (or via a web folder) in order for these to make it into the document library. If you choose to choose upload document from the document library itself, then the values are blanked out in the form (because you haven't uploaded the document yet) AND SharePoint will actually blank them out inside the Office document after you upload it. Hope that helps someone who's looking to migrate documents and trying to preserve the Office META data.
