Excel file from sharepoint to pc

We've got an Excel file on a Sharepoint 2003 Portal server. Is there
a way, from
within an Excel file on a PC to import the data from the Sharepoint
Excel file? Maybe using VB or VB.Net? Can somebody point me in the
right direction?

Note: obviously, one can just copy the file from sharepoint to the
pc. However, we need to extrapolate an automated process to apply
this technique to hundreds of files.

You've also posted this exact message to .portalserver (as a separate
message)

Please decide whether you have SPS 2003 (.portalserver) or WSS 2.0
(.windowsservices) and post in future only to one newsgroup.

Here you seem to be clearly saying that you have SPS 2003 ....
