 - ISA causing issue with upload document or new folder link Inside the network our WSS portal works fine but when going through ISA 2004 using the document library "upload document" link or "new folder" we get an error 500 rejected by HTTP filter.  - ISA causing upload document link problem? I am having upload problems on WSS. (w/latest SP for WSS). When inside the network everything works fine but from outside their ISA 2004 firewall - If you click on upload document or new folder the browser always displays "page cannot be displayed, error code 500, rejected by http filter, contact ISA admin".  - Problem opening pdf-files Hello, in some folders, when trying to open a pdf file by clicking on its name, a message appears: File does not start with "%PDF-". Acrobat closes again, without displaying the document. However, this does not happen in Explorer View! On inspection, the document is ok and starts with %pdf. If the file is copied into another document library or another folder, this does not happen. pdf-documents in other libraries or folders can be opened without any problem. Has anybody a tip on how to correct this? We have been looking into the View definitions, but could not find any differences to other libs which work fine.  - woes with multiple SSL WSS sites Let's start here: http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;830342 (don't be fooled by the seemingly blank web page ... this is an error, and the contents are there if you scroll down). Now the statement made in this KB is "IP-bound virtual servers are not supported in SharePoint Portal Server 2003 or in Windows SharePoint Services. You can use the (All Assigned) IP address option to configure IIS Host Header Web sites that do not cause this problem." That statement in itself is an eye-opener. We have had a WSS site and non-WSS IIS 6.0 on the same machines for quite some time, and of course host headering in any way at all is impossible with "HTTPS required" which we must do because our site is an extranet and uses basic auth which cannot go clear. The site worked fine like this for quite some time, although we found we couldn't apply WSS SP1 a few months back, because our data server is on another lan segment, and WSS doesn't like this too much. Recently, I attempted to upload a Web Part with VS.Net 2003, creating a package as is recommended in several articles. Because one "workaround" to the above is to register Web Parts in the GAC, I created a strong named assembly and added it to the package. From this point forward, none of the other web parts worked, such as the rich text editor. They fail with the SOAP error seen in the KB 830342. Looks to me as though SSL is the culprit; I cannot use "all unassigned" and am not sure that can be done retroactively on a WSS site (many posts have claimed that SSL must be defined and working at root site creation time).  - Contact Link to Outlook - File As Don't get mad if I cross post this to the Outlook group as it involves both products but I am leaning to it being a Sharepoint thing and not Outlook. Anyway when you link a sharepoint Contact list to Outlook the "file as" does not seem to be an option you can work with and Outlook defaults to the last name/first name filing instead of the preferred (at least for us) company name (lastname, first name).  - local user can not open "Modify My Page" - even beeing an admin? Hi there! I have a WSS running on a domain - when testing webpart personalization, I caeted a local user in the server. When logging on with this local user, the user can not open the "Modify My Page"... The local user can see the "Modify My Page" but no Menu is comming up when clicking.  - How do I tie Sharepoint lists/document libraries/events/etc to a DataView column I have some tables in SQL Server, which I will like to use as lookups from sharepoint. I am exposing the SQL Server tables to Sharepoint using Frontpage 2003 DataView feature (which by the way is sooo sweet!). The problem I have is that the Dataviews on a sharepoint page are not exposed to Sharepoint lists...i.e. I cannot add a new Lookup column to say a Custom List, and have it reference a column in a dataview...since the Dataview is not exposed at that level. Example: I would like to have a Calendar and a Document Library where each entry is linked to a "Customer" record stored in a separate SQL Server or Access table. If the Customer record was a Sharepoint custom list then the solution will be easy since you can just add a Lookup field that reference list. I assume that the solution will be to expose those SQL tables to sharepoint through a Frontpage Dataview. The question is how do I allow entries to be saved such as document library and calendar entries to be added with columns referencing SQL table columns.  - combining documents and document permissions in sharepoint I need to be able to combine documets held in various Sharepoint libraries. I have been working on a solution that involves developing custom asp.net pages to collect the documents to be combined (stored in xml page on the server), change the order of the documents and then combine the documents and email the result to the user. the document lists could be stored and used again or shared with other users (does anyone know if there are other solutions available to do this ?) I have come up against the problem of document permissions. I need to be able to read and write document permissions programmatically to ensure the user has sufficient rights to access the bound document. I also need to programmatically access the documents (so I presume I need to set "system rights" for my application). Can anyone help (or is there a better way to do this?)  - Super-slim site definition? Anyone know how slim you can get the site definition down to? I'm trying to build a sitedef with basically a single page and very little configuration. Basically a wss starter that would create a valid site but nothing much but a single page and some sharepoint properties. I've been trying various approaches like taking the STS one and removing bits and pieces but every once in awhile the whole thing blows up. I'm thinking something along the lines of just having ONET.XML and a default.aspx page (and the WEBTEMPxxx.XML file) but not sure what that looks like and what's mandatory as far as the schema goes (and it's a PITA to keep resetting IIS to see if I have enough).  - Integrate CruiseControl with Sharepoint? I have an off-site developer who will need to upload a ZIP file to our Sharepoint server containing updated source code. Sharepoint seems to be putting this into SQL server but I would like to store the file in the file system. Why? Because I want CruiseControl to watch that directory for uploads and then automatically launch the build process using the newly uploaded file.  - Templates Hello All, We wanted to add a button to lists that currently exist in a few site collections we have. I modified the SCHEMA.XML files of the underlying lists so that the button shows up (yes we know this can get stomped by an SP). All was going well when I noticed that some sites did not show the button. Part of the reason of modifying the SCHEMA.XML files in the STS directory was to make sure the button showed up everywhere. A little bit of checking and it turns out that these sites are based on a template site that I believe was taken prior to the changes in the SCHEMA.XML files in the STS directory. My guess is that this is why they do not show up on these sites. So, I pulled the template out and started exploring the manifest.xml file. It appears to have a copy of the contents of all (?) the schema.xml files. Am I really on the right path here? Does anyone know if I edit this and then push it back into the central template gallery, will the button appear on existing lists of sites created from this template? Also, is it possible to extract a template from the central template gallery?  - adduser command-line errors I am a newbie to WSS and would appreciate help. I have a single server installation with working sites in the admin virtual server. I have also extended a second virtual server and created a sites successfully there as well. I am utilizing Active Directory so I need to add users via the command-line. This is where I am having trouble. I am wondering if I am not entering the correct path syntax for the â??url parameter. QUESTIONS: 1. What is the default path for the admin virtual server and other extended virtual servers? 2. Do users all have to be created in Active Directory first or does the command-line operation create and store user accounts at the root Virtual Server level?  - why are these files created in C:\Windows\Temp? On our WSS server, I see about 50 files created per day in the C:\Windows\Temp directory and they appear to be related to WSS.  - New domain-after a couple of weeks 1 user can´t access the companyweb- SBS2003! Hi all, I have recently set up a new domian for a customer, this with a SBS 2003 Premium with ISA 2000.At first all worked like charm, now after approx 2 weeks they have one user who can´t access the sharepoint companyweb, he only get´s the "white page" which says can´t find companyweb.Also on the DC itself the administrator get´s to the loginpage when trying to access the same companyweb site. I have checked and compared security settings for this users with all other users that can access companyweb and nothing is different. Also compared settings/security on the companyweb site in IIS with other SBS installations I have done, and all seems the same. Anyone who knows what I shall look for in my path to solve this??  - Reputable (and secure) SPS hosting companies My manager is attempting to move our department to SharePoint Services, but we will need to use a hosting company because of internal IT restrictions on Windows Server 2003. We have a long list of U.S. partners who host SPS implementations, but I'm not familiar with most of their reputations. We are primarily concerned with server uptime and security of documents posted to the site. Are there specific SPS hosting companies who have the best reputations in the field?  - Update On Browser Caching and Edited Web Pages .mht Hi, When a single file web page .mht is edited then saved a user will still see the old data if the page is in the IE temp files. I've done some testing to find ways to alleviate this. This only happens if the edited file is the first one the user goes to in the document library after the update. For instance file A is edited and saved. A user had opened file A before the edit and then hit the back button to go back to the document library. If they now open file A they see the old data until they hit refresh. Or if they go back to the document library and open file B then open file A they see the new data in file A without having to hit refresh. Seems the code runs to requery the database if the edited file was not the last file the user displayed. MS probably did this to decrease the response time. It would be nice if they recoded to always run the query or give the admin an option to always run the query for web pages. You can also set IE to empty the cache when the browser is closed. We don't have a lot of users accessing a lot of web pages where they need the cache so we can take the small performance hit.  - How to list the sites set up on a server? Is there a way that I can list all of the sites set up on a virtual server? I have taken over responsibility for this sharepoint server and know there are a bunch of sites set up, but I can't seem to list what they are. I think there are a bunch set up for testing that I want to get rid of, but I don't see an option to list them to show which one to delete.  - This is a tough 1 - Authentication prompt I have a 1 user who is prompted for authentication using a domain account when accessing a sharepoint site. This individual has successfully logged on previously without the logon prompt coming up. Although, even though he is promted for authentication, if you hit cancel, the homepage still comes up, and the user is bombarding with continous prompts. He are more details: This user does not have this issue from other machines. On the problem machine, I do not have the issue when I log in. (Profile specific) I have deleted all of the Temporary Internet files though the command prompt. I have Clear Passwords within Internet Options.  - Accessing User Role In SPS/WSS through Web part hi. To put it simple, the web part i am developing will render base on the user roles. I.E. The features of the web part is hidden/shown based the roles of the user. i am quite new in SPS/WSS programming. What must i do..  - Files linked to workspace sometimes unlink I've got a document workspace that has grown over the course of the project, and now some of the links between local copies of files and the workspace have broken. I can't re-add the documents through the Office Shared Workspace task pane because there are too many files in the workspace for Word to display in the task pane. If I open the file from SharePoint, then try to save it to locally, Word no longer asks if I want to link to the shared copy. I've got three questions: What is the maximum number of files in a workspace? Is there any way to restore links after this happens? Is this by design or a bug?  - SharePoint Server woes - Please help Just got SharePoint Server 2.0 reinstalled from an accidental deletion of the Config database. Recreated the Config database "SharePoint" and pointed it to the existing Content database "STS_CSTORESERVER_1". I now get the following error from my client browsers: Error Cannot complete this action. Please try again. Troubleshoot issues with Windows SharePoint Services. From the Server's App log, the follow event keeps showing up: #50070: Unable to connect to the database SharePoint on CSTORESERVER. Check the database connection information and make sure that the database server is running. Event ID 1000. Can anyone help me fix this PLEASE????  - Display Unique Values - Losing my mind I've done this before using John Jansen's blog posting: http://blogs.msdn.com/frontpoint/articles/123141.aspx And it's always worked. I'm trying to do it on a simple custom list (for the sake of this example) and it's not working. I'm losing (or have already lost) my mind... :P I've re-created the list twice, and even copied and pasted his code into the template. The results in FrontPage show me what I expect to see -- only unique values. But when I view the page, it shows the entire thing.
