I must create a site or a work area inside WSS 2003 (in SBS).
I have accessed as administrator.
When I create the site or the work area I specify the title and the URL
(http://companywe/sitename), then I select a model for the site or work area.
After confirming the operation an error occurs because of a model is already
applied to the site. In fact, it is changed the title of the home page of
companyweb.
This operation tries to modify the main site!

How can I solve this issue?

You'd better say what you mean by

a) work area

and

b) model

there are no such terms in WSS v2

"Model" I can guess might mean "template" but work area I can't even guess.
"Area" for instance is only used in SPS 2003.

Sorry, but I use WSS in Italian language.
I try to explain you these terms.
With model ("modello" is the Italian meanings) I want to indicate "template",
with "work area" for documents ("area lavoro" in Italian language) I want to
refer to a particular site: the problem occurs for sites or for "work areas"
that I want to create.

Ok?

Sorry but saying"site OR web area" meant to me that "web area" didn't mean
site !.

I think your problem might be that you are creating a site and then when the
site is already created you are trying to apply a template to it.

The procedure is to make sure the site template is including in the site
template directory and then when you do Create Site, you select that
template from the list of optional site templates rather than choosing the
default Team Site template.

If it's not that, then either try again here or post instead to the Italian
SharePoint newsgroup at

microsoft.public.it.sharepoint

I have followed the creation procedure provided inside WSS.
I have choosen one of proposed site templates.
The problem occurs for each template that I choose.
I haven't created a template: it is enough for me to use a proposed template.
It seems that WSS doesn't consider the second part of the URL
http://companyweb/[titlesite], but only http://companyweb (the URL of main
WSS site).
I think that I must control a log or other obijects. What?

Any suggests for me? Thanks

This might be a SBS 2003-specific problem, I suppose.

Try asking the guys in the sbs newsgroup

microsoft.public.windows.server.sbs

they at least have http://companyweb

I have followed your suggest and I have posted the question in SBS newsgroup.

I want to provide an advance.
Error during sub-site creation has occured using SBS + WSS in Italian
language:
before I have tried the product in English and sub-site creation has
functioned correctly.
Morevover I have tried to monitor client and server operations during the
creation:
I have controlled the web page "newsbweb.aspx" that required the title and
the URL of the sub-site and I have seen that any records is added into Sites
table of STS_Config database.

Any suggests to understand the error?

Thanks

Error during site or work area creation (WSS 2003 in SBS) (SOLVED! by Pasquale

Pasquale
Tue Sep 19 10:04:02 CDT 2006

I have solved this issue upgrading MS SQL Server 2000 SE to SP3a.
I think that SBS installs at least SP3 or SP2.
This isn't a specific SBS issue. It could occur also in another operating
system,
in English or in another language.

Regards
