    - stsadm restore taking forever? I'm doing a backup and restore of my sharepoint sites. Some of these sites are very large--let's say 1GB each. For some of my smaller sites, the stsadm.exe -backup command churned out .dat files at the rate of up to 3MB a second. Not too shabby. However, the stsadm.exe -restore command runs FAR slower. A 3MB site takes about 5 *minutes* to restore. At this rate, it's going to take well over a week to restore several larger (1GB+) sites. In a nutshell, Is there any way to speed up the restore? Any settings to use, any IIS tweaks to perform, etc? We had no idea it was going to take this long... Thanks, Ryan Tag: Error Code 18452 Tag: 26824

    - Viewing faxes Hi, I have this problem on a couple of Windows 2003 SBS: when I go to SharePoint and view the incoming faxes, clicking on a fax displays a small picture box (like a missing image) on top left corner instead of displaying the fax. If, however, I select the "Explorer view" and open the fax from there, it works fine and displays the fax. On some other servers, it does ot display the "missing image" icon, but displays (and prints) a blank page, unless viewed or opened in "exlorer" view. Your assistance is greatlt appreciated.     - Getting up to speed on creating/using WSS Hey all, We have started to move past the "basics" with WSS, (we use ProjSrvr 2k3 in house), and am wondering how to get up to speed with modifying and or adding information to WSSites. I understand it uses CSS, but not much more familiar with it than that. I am familiar enough with ASP, and VB.Net so I can kinda squirrel into aspx. Is there like a devel tool? Maybe Frontpage is the way to go? I'm just looking to add more than the out of the box functionality, yet stay within the security model. P.s.     - Expense Report Template Most of the expense report templates i see are using infopath. I really don't want to use an application (yet) that requires users to install (and learn) a new application. Can someone instruct me (or send a link) on how to create an excel expense report template in sharepoint? I know i can just upload one and the user can "save as" but shouldn't i be able to specify a template as a default document type in an area?     - SSL / Host headers I had a support case reguarding this issue for a few weeks and the short story is there is no way around this as SharePoint (it's a WSS issue, not SPS, but because SPS leverages WSS, it's an issue with SPS as well) doesn't support IP-bound virtual servers AND even if you put an ISA Server in front of the SharePoint box, it won't help as WSS doesn't support SSL Termination… only SSL bridging. You can run additional sites off additional ports, but that's not a clean or viable option for everyone (but it ~will~ work).     - Document Management Hi, I'm interested in using WSS or SPS for document management, where the documents are the usual PDF's, MSWord documents, Lotus Notes databases, e-mails, web pages etc. held by different departments across the Company. This is formal storage of documents and a 'google' type document search is not appropriate. We need the following: - simple check-in facility for new documents. - the ability to assign documents to a category tree, with multiple categories for each document (e.g. more than one author or subject). - version control. - a powerful boolean search capability. Without actually getting my hands on the software, it's difficult to see whether or not this functionality is available and whether WSS or SPS are appropriate. I really envisaged a relational database behind the scenes to handle the one-to-many relationships in the category tree. Is this feasible? Any pointers, links etc would be appreciated.     - Issues with Project Server 2003 and Share Point on Server 2003 Hello, I have a bit of a problem. I botched an origional install of Project Server 2003 and Share Point on a Server 2003 machine. After realizing I had made several mistakes I tried to clean up my mess by uninstalling everything so I could get a clean start. During the process I must have done something out of order since now I can't uninstall or install Project Server. Each time I do so it automaticly goes into uninstall mode and then gives me the following message; "Installation ended prematurely because of an error."     - How to reinstall WSS onto SBS 2003 Hi Somehow our WSS has become corrupted with a CS0007: Unexpected common language runtime initialization error -- 'Class not registered error. No matter i do i cannot resolve the problem. I deceided to uninstall WSS from the server (we have a full backup of the sites and databases) reboot, and reinstalll WSS from the download site.     - Anonymous access - can't get rid of logon box Hi, I have turned Anonymous access on in IIS and I have enabled Anonymous access in WSS admin so that anonymous users can access the entire site. This is intened to be a public web site, but certain features require certain users to "sign in". So far so good. The issue is that when I go to the site, the logon box always appears. I can click cancel and navigate the entire site, but each mouse click brings up the logon box and another mouse click to cancel. To enhance on this model, does anyone know how to keep the menu in a collapse state after you click on a selected item in the menu?     - Publish aspx files for Lists Hello, I changed a lot of aspx files on our development server direct under the List "Folder" entry in frontpage. After I published this aspx pages using frontpage to the productive server these pages are almost empty - all webparts are missing. I use custom webparts too. If I restore the content db, everything works, but I have to update the prod enviroment incrementally.     - Site Definition Mis-match I've created 5 custom site definitions. This all works great except for the creation of custom pages. (I've included the webtemp.xml file below.) For example, if there is a WSS site built on STSeBrndB (1005) and a user creates a new Web Part Page through the browser, they will get a page based on the STSeBrndL (1000) site definition. I've checked the pages in the ...\60\TEMPLATE\1033\STSeBrndB\DOCTEMP\SMARTPGS and they are correct. If I modify the files in ...\60\TEMPLATE\1033\STSeBrndL\DOCTEMP\SMARTPGS then the pages do alter their apperance accordingly even though the site is based on STSeBrndB (1005). This same problem will occur regardless of which of my custom templates the site is based upon. The custom pages will always follow the STSeBrndL (1000) site definition. All the other pages in the site work as expected. It's just the custom web part pages. Ideas?     - installation problem I am trying to install Sharepoint to work with SQL and be Active Directory integrated. I follow all the instructions from the help file, but when I try to extend a virtual server it says it can't complete the operation. When I try to access the newly extended site, I am prompted to sign in, and then I get a blank page with this text: "The Web site that is referenced here is not in the configuration database." Any thoughts? I feel like I am missing something simple. I have used Sharepoint with MSDE, and even succesfully updated MSDE deployments to SQL. Just can't get it a fresh install working. I've installed WSS2 on Windows 2003 web edition and attempting to Set
Configuration Database Server to a SQL 2000 database on a Windows 2003
standard edition - and get the error message 'Login failed for user
'(null)'. Reason: Not Associated with a trusted SQL Server connection.
(Error Code: 18452). I did a MS support search and found KBA 840219,
followed the recommendations and continue to get the same error. What can I
do now? Thanks.
