    - Edit a document in a Document library from Code Hello, Let me explain my problem. I have a wepart in my sharepoint website. When I click on a buttom I create a document (.docx) and put it in a Document library I'v created. My question is I'd like to (from my code which is a UserControl) make it like I'v click on "Edit in Microsoft Word". That mean it open the document from the library and let me modify it and when i click save it replace the document in the Document library. So Response.Redirect(FileAddress); Is not a valid option.     - Problem with SharePoint 2007 Backup and Document Library I am having a major problem with WSS v3. Every few days random office documents uploaded to document libraries will not open. The browser reports the document could not be opened and that the path or filename is invalid. At the same time the SharePoint backup stops working. If a backup is run from Central Admin, the process hangs when it gets to the first content database. Both issues can be resolved by rebooting the server. These problems are related and I'm assuming the content database is the cause. There are no errors in the SQL server or event logs. I have run SQL profile traces on some counters to get some indication of what is going but haven't turned up anything. The only thing unusual about the farm is that it was migrated from Beta 2 TR and moved to a new server with MOSS RTM. Has anyone experienced anything like this? Any help is appreciated.     - Pass SharePoint Form Values to Web Part Page I have a WSS form (newform.aspx) that once the user fills out the form is then redirected to another web part page. This works fine but I would also like to pass the values of 3 form fields to the web part page (page1.aspx) via the URL. On the bottom of the newform.aspx page, I have the following: <input type="hidden" name="NextUsing" id="NextUsing" value="page1.aspx" Is it possible to build a string to include the form values to be passed to a web part page?     - Change Redirect URL during Gradual Upgrade I know I can uninstall v3 and start over with the upgrade, but I would, of course, prefer not to. Is there any way to change the URL that v3 redirect un-upgraded sites to? I screwed up the host header during set up and there seems to be no way to go back. If I change the host header in IIS Manager, I see it change on the gradual upgrade progress page, but the redirects no longer work. Is this a field in the DB someplace?     - Override item-level permissions for a list I have a SharePoint list with several custom site groups needing different permissions. One group is able to read, write, and delete their own entries (via item-level permissions), and the other group should be able to read, write, and delete any entry on the list. I realize the second group can do this if I give them the manage lists right, but I don't want them to be able to change column names, field calculations, etc..     - sending email to all members... having an issue with wss 3.0 Email is set-up in the admin section and users are getting email individually. However, "Send e-mail to all memebers" from an open Sharepoint document doesn't work correctly. The new message box will open, but the To: area doesn't populate with the group members.     - WSSv3 Migration Hello, I have Sharepoint V2 running on one server and we have been looking at moving to V3. However, we want to place v3 on a box of it's own. The way it is setup is i have Sharepoint v2 on a server currently being used for many other things. I also have another server where i have installed v3. We have a third server running SQL 2000 where the databases for both versions are being housed. Little to no customizations have been done on V2 and V3 has very little content in it currently. Since i have v3 already installed i believe it is possible to move the database only from v2 over to v3 without much hassel is that correct? I have seen some articles but all have been a little confusing to me. A Sharepoint deployment/migration article and word doc i have been reading has been saying to use an addcontentdb operation part of the stsadm tool but i don't see that operation as an option when i runn stsadm.exe -help and it constantly errors out saying the operation is invalid.     - WSUS 2 SP1 and WSS 3.0 problems running both on same server Hi, Can anyone point me to any information regarding the subject. I've attempted to install WSUS 2 sp1 on a server that is already running Sharepoint services 3.0. When I installed it to a custom website I kept getting an error in the management console about the SelfUpdate service couldn't be detected. So I found an kBase article (don't remember the number) and ran through it's workarounds. Still get the same message on the admin console. So I thought maybe uninstalling it, and renistalling it to the default web site would help it along. Nope! Because of the WSS 3.0 installation the Default web site won't start (both sites use the same port (port 80)). Okay so I try move the two services (ClientWebService and SelfUpdate) service to the WSS 3.0 site, since they must run on port 80, instead of the customized port of 8530. Still doesn't work.     - Read querystring and display info I'm trying to create a link to my sharepoint site which will be populated with a querystring like this: http://sharepoint/sites/entry.aspx?info=abc in the entry.aspx page, there will be a content editor webpart which will be pointing to a separate report website which is not a sharepoint site: http://bricfi/default.aspx which will take the info in the querystring value from the entry.aspx link (info=abc) and present the appropriate information pertaining to what is in the querystring.     - Problem with some alerts after upgrading to WSSv3 Hi all! I have a prboblem with alerts after upgrade to WSSv3. The old configure is like this: ServerOld SiteOld (WSSv2) ListOld Alerts is working fine. Upgraded to WSSv3 by following "Deploy a new server farm, then migrate content databases" (http://technet2.microsoft.com/windowsserver/WSS/en/ library/dd03cc53-718c-4183-af99-a5f309010fe61033.mspx?mfr=3Dtrue) @ TechNet. So the new configure is something like this: ServerNew SiteOld (Upgraded to WSSv3) ListOld (same list as above) ListNew (New list) If i create an alert on ListNew and ListOld i get a mail saying i created an alert. If i add(or edited) a item to ListNew i get an alert saying a new item was added. If i add(or edited) a item to ListOld i don=B4t get an alert. To summarize: After upgrading to WSSv3 the old list don=B4t generate any alerts, but all the new lists do. Do i make any sense? Is any information missing?     - WSS 3.0: Opening a SPSite works on development, fails on live Summary: I have .NET 2.0 code to open a SPSite that works on my development server and fails on the production server. I suspect a configuration issue and would like help on where to look next. Detail: I'm using the following (abbreviated) code to open a SPSite. Compiled in VS2005, the Sharepoint reference is to C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\Web Server Extensions\12\ISAPI\Microsoft.SharePoint.dll. using Microsoft.SharePoint; namespace com.melandra.Agile.SharepointShim { public class GroupingList { private string siteUrl = null; private SPSite site; public string SiteUrl { get { return siteUrl; } set { siteUrl = value; } } public GroupingList() { // Do nothing } public void OpenList() { site = new SPSite(SiteUrl); ... } } } (Sorry for the property-based stuff - it's a long story) This has worked fine on our development box for some months. All accounts used are domain accounts. I'm not aware of any oddities in the domain setup - it's worked fine for several years and hasn't given us any errors. However, this is the first R2 server in the domain. Download the solution EXE file to my computer. 2. Run the EXE file to unpack the template file to a location on your computer. 3. Select the solution file, ApplicationTemplateCore.wsp, from the extracted distribution. This solution file will be added to the Windows SharePoint Services solution store. 4.     - pre-populating a custom document library in wss v3, via onet.xml is this possible Hi, I am using wss v3 and I am trying to prepopulate a document library when a site is provisioned by modifying onet.xml. I guess the first question is, is this possible? As there appears to be no event I can tap into and then use the object model.... so assuming it is... The way i have tried to do this (but failed!) is create an instance of my document library in the configuration tags of the onet.xml.     - Cannot run Reporting Services 2000 and WSS3 onsame server I have a single Win2k3 server that was running SQL2000, SQL Reporting Services 2000, and Windows SharePoint Services 2. I upgraded the WSS2 to WSS3. When I try to navigate to http://myserver/Rep= orts I get an error "Server Error in /Reports Application". With the error message Unrecognized attribute 'Type'. The source error has this line highlighted... <sectionGroup name=3D"System.Workflow.ComponentModel.WorkflowCompiler" type=3D"System.Workflow.ComponentModel.Compiler.WorkflowCompilerConfigurati= on=AD SectionGroup, System.Workflow.ComponentModel, Version=3D3.0.0.0, Culture=3Dneutral, PublicKeyToken=3D31bf3856ad364e35"> The source file identified in the error is c:\inetpub\wwwroot \web.config I assumed that the Reports application couldn't understand the web.config entry because it now included Freamework v2 information. The first thing that I tried was to change the ASP.Net settings in IIS for Reports and ReportServer to v2. Now when I navigate to http://myserver/Reports the reports I can see the reports listed properly. But, when I try to execute a report I get the following Reporting Services Error... Failed to load expression host assembly. Details: StrongName cannot have an empty string for the assembly name. (rsProcessingError) >From looking at other postings it appears that this error is due to me setting the Reports and ReportServer applications to ASP.Net v2. So, I am stuck. If I set the applications to v2 I can see the site but cannot run the reports. If I set te applications to v1.1 then I cannot see the site at all.     - New Folder command in Project List Toolbar I have a project list that I have already created a sub folder on, but the option to create new sub folders is no longer an option on the "new" menu - any ideas? I have check and toggled the "Display "New Folder" command on the New menu" option under the lists advanced settings, but the option never appears. Obviously I have does this in the past as I already have a sub folder, has anyone seen anything like this?     - Usage Analysis setup: The virtual server that is referenced here is not in the config database. Good afternoon all, While attempting to enable Usage Analysis Processing from SharePoint Central Administration, I receive the error noted above after enabling logging and enabling usage analysis processing. There doesn't appear to be a method of selecting a virtual server to apply this to, although there is only one virtual server in this SharePoint installation. After returning to the administration page for setting up this option, however, the previously checked settings are still enabled. Does the virtual server error described tell me that usage analysis is still not enabled although the options are still checked? Did I miss a step in the setup?     - Permission Problem Do I need to set any permissions outside of Sharepoint (WSS 3.0) or should I have everything I need right there in the Sharepoint interface? I was assuming the latter, but I've run into a problem. Users (including site owners) can't view certain parts on child sites (like the logo) and are prompted to log in three times for every page. After logging in 3 times--or even canceling the log in request--they get the required access to the page, though the logo still doesn't display. As domain users they shouldn't need to log in at all; authentication should be automatic. I narrowed it down to a file permission problem. I added Domain Users to the WSS_WPG group on the WSS server and now everything works correctly for everyone. (I chose WSS_WPG because it already has read/list/execute) on the root web folder.) But this doesn't seem right. I can't find any documentation that says I should have to fiddle with machine-level permissions. Was this the right thing to do?     - assign master page to custom site definition during v2 to v3 upgra I'm currently in the process of trying to upgrade a v2 custom site definition to WSS v3. I have created a custom master page that I want to reference in the new v3 custom site definition as part of the upgrade process. Newly created sites using the new site definition reference the custom master page correctly but sites that have been upgraded do not. I need to be able to reference the new master page and also set the custommasterurl property to the correct master page during the upgrade process. I would expect that this should be done via my custom upgrade schema xml file but I don't know where I can specify these config changes based on the available elements to the microsoft.sharepoint.upgrade namespace.     - WSS 2.0 to WSS 3.0 Data Migration I'am trying to export several link lists from WSS 2.0 to WSS 3.0. In WSS 3.0 i created a link list with subfolders. I convert the data using the spreadsheet view and then cut and paste. This works good, exept if i paste the data into a subfolder of the link list in WSS 3.0. This is the case: - Customer x has many committees - Each committee needs to get a WSS site - A person can have access to multiple committees (and also to multiple WSS sites) - Customer uses a standalone, internet facing server for hosting. - Customer needs to be able to add / change users themselves (not necessarily groups) in WSS So there you have it, classic security situation: users need to be in usergroups, each usergroup needs to have a WSS role and site access. Assigning multiple groups to a user grants access rights to multiple WSS sites. Normally i would say: use active directory --> add windows AD group to WSS site --> done. However, in this case the customer wants (needs) to be able to add and change users themselves, within the WSS environment. And they don't want to add users to sites in WSS, but transparantly at the user level (figures). So, they need to be able to add a user and then assign them to the correct groups.     - Multiple Top Level Domains in WSS 3.0 I am trying to figure out the best way to accomplish the following. Architecture: WSS 3.0 Server (named SERVER) SQL Server (Different physical box) Current Setup: http://server.domain.com is my default web application using port 80 it allows anonymous connections and uses NTLM for authentication. I want to add: https://server2.domain.com with Anonymous access and .NET Forms Based Authentication on the same box. If I try and add a new application using WSS Admin, it will not let me create a site using port 80.     - WSS2 => WSS3 failed: Access to this web site has been blocked The upgrade failed to WSS3 (side by side) and when i try to access the WSS2 root site i get "Access to this web site has been blocked". The new Pair website in WSS3 is removed: I have tried to create a new Virtial Server to the same content database in WSS2 but still get "Access to this web site has been blocked" when i access to root site.     - Upgrade SHarepoint services 2 to 3 I hope this is the correct group to post this question. If not, my apologies. However, I am having a problem upgrading my version 2 sharepoint services to version 3. I can upgrade to version 3 ok but my original site is not retained or upgraded.     - Sharepoint Upgrade to 3.0 Disaster SPS 2.0 in stand alone environment tried to upgrade to SPS 3.0 and experienced major failure. 1) Ran prescan.exe on current setup in 2.0 without error 2) Began upgrade process for inplace upgrade. I have no custom web parts, so no issues there 3) Got almost through setup when error was found on Content database. Don't know the actual wording but apparently there were problems with my content database that prescan.exe did not find. The installation then ended and I was left with the prospect of going back to WSS 2.0 and starting over. 4) Uninstalled WSS 3.0 and reinstalled WSS 2.0. My config and content databases were backed up, so i began the restore process. 5) The config database reconnects fine to a fresh install of WSS 2.0, but I get a "Content Database Already Exists Error Code:1801" error when trying to reconnect to content db. I am running WMSDE, so i tried other posted solutions on microsoft and elsewhere to add the NETWORK SERVICE as sysadmin to the db, which runs fine, the user is added. However when I try to reconnect after that, I get the same error. NETWORK SERVICE is listed as the identity in the app pool for SPS Admin in IIS.     - Web parts from the interent....how? Hi all: In answer to my earlier question TK was kind enough to tell me that SharePoint web parts can be accessed over the internet, but he neglected to tell me how to set it up. Does anyone know of a KB that details how to set this up? Right now I am getting some errors when I hit the web parts page: When I access my web parts page on the server itself I get 2 dialogs: 1. This website uses a data provider that may be unsafe. If you trust the website, click OK, otherwise click Cancel and when I click OK, I get: This website is using your identity to access a data source. If you trust the website, click OK to continue, otherwise click Cancel. when I click OK on the 2nd dialog, the web part displays the data correctly. When I try to access the web part page from another machine, I am prompted for a username and password, and then I get the same 2 dialogs, but after I click OK both times the data doesn't show up and I get the very helpful error message: Failed to get Data. If available, errors returned from the provider are listed below. With no errors listed. I imagine this is all due to IE security settings, does anyone know of a document that details how I can set these pages up for Internet access?     - Get sharepoint to stop prompting to log in? When accessing our sharepoint server, it repeatedly pops up the login prompt to an extent that all of our users find really annoying. I'd like to find out how to address this. Some background: We have recently upgraded from WSS 2 to 3, and this issue remains for us. I've noticed that it seems to be worse on IE7 and/or Vista, but it is a problem with XP Pro and IE6 also. We have an active directory server, call it ServerA, and a sharepoint server, call it ServerB. Both are on our domain, call it MYDOMAIN. For whatever historical reason, it's really called MYDOMAIN.local so you can ping ServerA or ServerA.MYDOMAIN.local and both work when you are internal on the LAN or VPN'd in. Externally, we are called MYDOMAIN.com, and we access our sharepoint server with SSL-only externally, and instead call it Sharepoint externally. So if you want to access it from the Internet, you use https://sharepoint.mydomain.com/ In our firewall we also mapped this back to ServerB so if you access https://sharepoint.mydomain.com/ from the LAN it also works. In fact, we always use this even on the LAN so that we don't have to send out two different URLs. We are a small shop and ServerA generates our SSL certificate for ServerB so it is not from a trusted source like VeriSign; but we do add *.MYDOMAIN.com to trusted sites in IE. When we access other internal resources, like an Intranet that requires Windows Authentication, we do not have to log in -- it sees we are logged into our workstations and automatically passes the credentials through. For Sharepoint, is there a way for it get the credentials from Windows and only prompt us if necessary? You can add all the known encrypted file formats to the banned files list.

We are encrypting all desktop client files using EFS (Microsoft's
Encrypted Filing System). The file extensions remain the same; the
only visible difference is the color of the file name when looking at
it via Explorer view.

The encryption will automatically be removed when using Upload File in
a document library; however, if the user uploads using any WebDav
protocol, the encryption remains in place.

Encrypted files can then be easily uploaded by users in Explorer view
or web folders. A full text search is no longer possible; file sharing
is no longer possible .... and on....

Thank you for your response and if anyone has any thoughts about this
or possibly knows of a registry setting that might make the problem
dissappear, I would be grateful.
