I uploaded a text file to the WSS 3.0 Shared Document folder. In the Shared
folder when I click the icon to the left of the file name (and select Edit)
the file opens. When I select "Edit document" from the Edit drop down (to the
right of the file name) I get the following error: "The document could not be
opened for editing A Windows Sharepoint Services compatible application
could not be found to edit the document". Huh? Any ideas what is going on?
And just what apps are "Sharepoint compatible"?

TIA,

Barkingdog

Mostly, Microsoft Office applications are "SharePoint compatible". For
example, you need Word installed to open a .doc file.

you should see a blocked message on your browser, simply right click
and select install Active X option. if you dont see this option then
manually register the activeX. just google it, i mentioned this in
several other posts.

such issue is either you dont have microsoft office on your desktop or
you dont have active x installed etc.

bizworld.
