I have been messing with the search service in wss 3.0.
When you have one search server, with the search and content access accounts
specified, it works fine. But when you have a second server, it doesn't
quite work.
Has anyone had any problem with trying to have two search servers on one
farm, WSS only?
Documentation is clear that you can have more than one search server on the
network. Other documentation is clear that you cannot have more than one
server running the index service on the network. With WSS 3.0 there is no
explicit way to separate the two.
I have tried running search by itself on a second server, with intermittent
success. Is this intermittent success because of an instability inherent in
WSS 3.0 (to be fixed with a service pack or hotfix I'm sure), or because it
really shouldn't work to begin with.
Anyone try it beside me? Is it working for you?
