    - form library: how do I view all versions? How do I create a view in a form library that will show all versions of all the documents?     - More on Upgrade of WSS beta Hi You may remember I was here before christmas (happy new you to you all) regarding a WSS site I had been running on the beta version and wanted to upgrade to the release version. I tried the upgrade on a fairly basic site at home and it has gone wrong and now will not work. I think the issue was that I ran the exe without and switches and my guess is that it was looking for a default database instance rather than the sharepoint instance i have ended up with from upgrading MSDE to SQL 2000 sp3. I dont remember getting any option once I had run the exe so my question is: can this be run from the cmd prompt with a pointer to the correct db, if so how please. It was unstable, very limited in functionality and (I think) highly unpopular. WSS1.0 has become MS Office SharePoint Portal Server 2003." The last sentence is complete nonsense of course. I have never heard anyone refer to STS as WSS 1.0; it was made available in 2001; it was not unstable (I've had a production site running for 21 months and it has never crashed); not *very* limited (although of course WSS has more functionality); and it wasn't highly unpopular just highly unknown. [Was it ever called "*Windows* Sharepoint Team Services"?] I'll leave it to you all (the masochists among you) to find all the other errors that are no doubt there.     - Filter Lists not refreshing Two lists on the page. Events and Contacts. 1. Use the Change Filter on the Events List to Filter for an Event. 2. Use the Change Filter on the Contact List to Filter for a Contact. 3. Use the Change Filter on the Events List to Filter for "All". 4.     - setting up a print net router in xp os Hello; I need help setting up a network printer router with in windows xp. I have a small box named "Print Net" 10/100, hooked up to my printer via the pararell port, the other connection is a Cat 5 wire connected to my home network. Here is the problem, I do not have the drivers for this hardware, does any one have any idea how to get the drivers for this hardware? or is there a way that xp could recognize the hardware?     - HTML viewer install Trying to install the HTML viewer from so that we can view MS office documents on the sharepoint website. First line of install instructions say to run setup transform=<setup filename>. When running this from command line I get window pops up that says must be ran from Control Panel.     - Cannot add webpart I set up a meeting subsite. I then clicked on the x for the tasks webpart. Oops. I cannot recover from this problem. I thought, at first, that I had merely deleted that webpart from the tasks homepage and could add it back. I couldn't find a way to do so. I eventually saw that "modify site content" page included several, by now, tasks webparts (tasks, tasks1, etc). Each time I had tried to add a new tasks webpart. I got a complaint of an error. I now have, according to "modify site content" one tasks webpart. How can I bring back the tasks section to be visible on the home page?     - Incorrect error message on password change (AD) (Sorry for re-posting this, but no one answered the first time, and the original is probably older than anyone is going to look at.) We are running WSS in AD Account Creation mode. When a user changes his/her password through the Site Settings > Update my information > Change password page, the following error is sometimes generated: Error Error setting password for user account "DOMAIN\account". The password must be at least 7 characters, must contain capitals, numerals, or punctuation; and cannot contain the account or full name. Enter a password that meets these requirements in both text boxes. Troubleshoot issues with Windows SharePoint Services. The problem is, the password requirement is 8 characters, not 7. My first preference is to change the error message to say 8 instead of 7. Optionally, I can change the requirement to 7 characters (which I don't really want to do), but I'm not sure how to do that. The page states that the access request has been sent but we never get it. I froze the local delivery que in exhange manager but do not see the request there either. Are we missing someting?     - Return Linked Lookup Values in a DataView I'm trying to access information behind a lookup field in order to render as a URL. In this case I have a list which has a lookup field to a document library. When putting a dataview on to a web page the value that is returned is the title of the document in the document library.     - Top menu items and ONET.XML Has anyone modified the menu items that show on the top menu? I can add or delete menu items by modifying the ONET.XML file however this only seems to affect new pages when they are added.     - Search does not work at all Hi, First time being here. I'm totaly new with SharePoint Portal Service 2003. I'm working on a Portal site that was constructed by somebody else. Everything he did works fine but not the seach. There are some document library's with documents inside. The only thing that I want now is to search through a word that's inside a word or text document. The search should display then all the documents that contain that word.     - Document status not working I have WSS running on Server 2003 and Office 2003 installed on several clients. When I go to a document library I get the side bar with stats about the document and the website. But if someone else opens the document also it does not update the online status and show more than just myself looking at it.     - A number in a Word property is not transferred to WSS We have a Word document with different properties. When we save a document in WSS - the alfanummeric ("text") properties (i.e. "F16" or "Report") are automatically transferred to a coloum with the same name in WSS. However if we create another property with the format number (i.e. 121212) nothing is shown within WSS (The coloum format is "number" in WSS as is the Word property format). Do you have any ideas?     - Site Group quota limits I have a serious problem. I can't create more then 100 Site Groups. I really needs more. Exception is "The Web site group cannot be created due to quota limitations. The maximum number of Web site groups for this Web site has been reached. Please remove a Web site group before adding another."     - Multiple line field in Document Libraries I have noticed a difference in behavior between the multiple line fields of a document library andother lists. In a document library, I am not allowed to save a record which has more then 255 characters of text in a multi line field. I have tried this on several document libraries on multiple servers. There seems to be no limit in the amount of text you can have in a multiple line field in other types of lists. I have also noticed that when adding or modifying a multiple line field in a document library, there is no choice to allow rich text editing. That choice exists in the properties in other lists. Can anyone confirm this behavior, and explain why there is this limit? I want to enable users the ability add their comments on a particular document, and this will severely limit that ability.     - Data View Web Part Caching I'm using the dataview webpart to display RSS feeds. It works beautifully, but I'd like to know what the cache options actually do. I have it set to "Default" in the Miscellaneous section of the options for the web part and the cache time-out setting is 0 by default. What does this mean in practice? .... is the server downloading the RSS file every time the page is requested, or does it mean something else...... Also, I can't open pages with these webparts in Frontpage 2003 ("A web part or web form control on this web part page cannot be displayed or imported because it is not registered as safe on this site...." etc) Is there any documentation on this?     - Installing DC after WSS has been installed means trouble ? Hello people, First of all: a very happy 2004 to you all ! Now, I had a Windows 2003 server installed with WSS on SQL 2000 working just fine (all on the same machine, together with IIS). For some specific reasons, I had to upgrade the machine and install active directory (make it a DC) at a later stage. This installation has "broken down" my WSS and I am having some trouble to get it back on line. I first got the "Service Unavailable" errors and cured this by selecting the right application pool on the virtual server in IIS (why was this changed during the DC-installation ?). However, once I go to my WSS home page, I always get a "You are not authorized to view this page" error, even if I'm loged on as the administrator on the server itself. I think the connection between WSS and SQL or at least the rights of the account that connects to the SQL-server got messed up somewhere along the road, since the initial settings in the "set configuration database server" of my WSS administration pages now gives me an "create database permission denied" error. I think I should be able to solve this by adding an account to the SQL WSS database (NT Authority/Network account ?) and set the correct rights to it, but I don't want to mess around with this before I'm sure. Also, if this is the case indeed, why do I need to do this ? Should I had the DC installed before installing SQL/WSS/DC/IIS ? If so, what would be the best thing to get this up-and-running ? I have no problem re-installing one of the above applications it this solves the problem, rather than messing around with accounts and maybe forgetting a couple of settings...     - reinstating mssql$sharepoint service I still have the problem from my original post (12/31/03 - can't connect to configuration database), and I'm wondering if (part of?) the problem is that I don't have the mssql$sharepoint service installed. However - If I attempt to reinstall msde, I get an invalid instance name error. I know that I can specify the instance name on the command line, but when I run setup with INSTANCENAME=SHAREPOINT, setup runs *almost* to completion, then silently fails. The application logs just say that installation failed with no additional information. Am I on the right path here. I've done nothing but read articles and try various things out for the last day and a half, but I'm no closer now than I was when I got into this mess. I'm installing sql server 2000 sp3 on this machine now, because I've tried everything else I can think of, and I'm hoping that will give me some more options. If anyone missed my original post, here's the summary: 1) Sharepoint was working great 2) I accidentally uninstalled msde 3) I tried reinstalling sharepoint (choosing repair) 4) Access requests result in "configuration database not found) The database is still there - I just don't know how to get them connected. If I attempt to access the server through the sharepoint admin site, I get an error that "the virtual server referenced here is not in the configuration database" - but I don't know how to get it there, nor do I know if it's the same or different problem. Administrator Note: An error message detailing the cause of this specific request failure can be found in the application event log of the web server. Please review this log entry to discover what caused this error to occur. Any ideas? How do I restore the connection to the main database. I must be looking in the wrong documentation to mend this together. I hate to have everything in the content databases lost.     - Is it only me? Frontpage and Sharepoint RPC POST docs - a mess I'm trying to figure out how to use the Frontpage and Sharepoint HTTP RPC extensions. I'm trying to do a POST to do some command like "list themes", but the documentation seems to be a mess and I can't figure it out. Some of the docs say to use _vti_bin/owssvr.dll, some of the docs say to use _vti_bin/_vti_aut/owssvr.dll. Some of the docs say to use "Cmd=method name", and some of them say to use "method=method name". In any case, my POST is returning "(404) not found", a very cryptic and un-useful message if ever I saw one. Does anybody have experience with this stuff? (Error code: = 18456).=20 In this scenario I have specified the Network Service account = (IWAM_FS_SRV1) as the security account for the application pool used by = WSS. This error created an associated event log entry:=20 #50070: Unable to connect to the database on fs_srv1. Check the database = connection information and make sure that the database server is = running. Of course the Database is indeed running. I have also added the = IWAM_FS_SRV1 account to SQL directly with the appropriate 2 SQL rights, = though this may not even be nessesary for the Network Service account = (it would be for any other account). And I have confirmed that the = account is member of STS_WPG and IIS_WPG groups. I then changed the application pool identity to Local System (not = recommended!), to see if this would make a difference. And it does. The = Local System security context seems to have enough rights to succesfully = interface with SQL, create the database, etc. =20 But I am at a loss where the problem now lies, what rights or security = contexts I have forgotten about..=20 Hope someone can help.     - Drawing Graphs in a WebPart Hi Has anyone got an example of drawing a simple graph in a webpart, based on an x value for a number of items? I know we could use the Office webparts, but for a number of reasons this isn't an option for us. I am assuming it is possible to use the Drawing namespace and somehow draw into the webpart's canvas?     - WSS Email alerts Hi, I had configured the WSS to send email alerts on a daily frequency. It was working fine and the users were getting those alerts. Suddenly the emails stopped coming. Can u please tell me how does WSS send email alerts. By how i mean what component does it use, and how do i configure that. I havent configured IIS SMTP with WSS to send emails.     - Can't connect to configuration database on reinstall I was pointed here from the sts group. I debated titling this post "I'm an idiot" - because I sure feel like one. I was removing some old software from a server today, and accidentally uninstalled msde (I meant to select the item above msde in add/remove programs - feel free to make fun of me now). At that point, I probably *should* have just reinstalled msde, but I didn't notice the separate installation directory on the cd (this is sts 2.0 on server 2003). I reinstalled sharepoint, but now when I attempt to connect to the server, I get a "can't connect to configuration database" error. If I launch the administration pages on the server, and attempt to access the configuration pages for this virtual server, the config page can't be found. I've verified that the application pool is set properly in the IIS configuration for this web site, and I've also verified that the database it *should* be connecting to still exists. I'm willing to try anything to get this server back up. It's frustrating, because I think it shouldn't be that difficult... If it will help at all, I have an unused copy of SQL Server 2000 enterprise that I could install if the tools included with SQL would help me out. Any ideas?     - Using text formula in default value for a field Hello: I can't seem to figure out how to set up a text field so that the default value (for new records) is a concatenation of other fields in the same record. In this case, I have a single-line text field called "Full Name," and three other single-line text fields called "First Name," "Last Name" and "Honorific". According to the online help that comes up when I click the "Show more information" link on the Change Column page, I should be able to enter as a "Calculated (default) Value" a formula such as: =[Honorific]&" "&[First Name]&" "&[Last Name] and have WSS enter "Dr. Victor Zhivago" in the Full Name field after I type in "Dr.", "Victor", and "Zhivago" in the other fields. But in fact, when I enter that formula, WSS returns the error: The formula contains reference(s) to field(s). Well, duh. I encounter similar problems when trying to use date formulas to create calculated default values. So WSS seems to evaluate functions involving other fields correctly if the target field is of type "Calculated Value" but it does not do so to create a default value for a target field that can be edited. I have noticed that I am not allowed to upload a document with a '&' in the
name in WSS (such as: Help & Support.doc).
I tested with STS and I was able to upload a document with a '&'in the name.
The & is changed into a %26 in the string that is returned with STS when I
access the document.

Is this yet another thing that doesn't work with WSS that did with STS?

The WSS FAQ has lists of non-allowed characters for both file and directory
names.
