    - Dynamic Menu help I'm trying to recreate Ian's Dynamic Menu and have everything setup the same way that he does. However, after I change the webpart to XSLT I can not, for the life of me, find the '<span>...@DisplayName' line of code anywhere.     - Filter on username Is it possible to filter a list based on username. I want to let my customers see support calls logged only for them and there usernames will match a required field in the list making the filter 'customerID' is equal to 'UserName' but can username be used in a filter and what is the exact entry for it 'username','[username]'?     - Service Unavailable on restart - no logon server... We have 3 servers that we are running Windows Sharepoint Services and/or Portal (2003) on. This scenerio happens on all of them. On restart - we get the "service unavailable" from Sharepoint Portal 2003 website. Log events show a failure to login (see below). IIS's CentralAdminAppPool is running, but MSSharePointPortalAppPool is stopped. Manually starting MSSharePointPortalAppPool starts the website running again. DNS Servers are running Win2K. Anyone know what might be causing the login failure and how we can fix it?     - Copying a discussion group to another discussion group Hi, I have 2 WSS sites they are not connected in a portal in any way one is a test and the other is live. We recently decided to recreate the structure of our site. The new structure was built entirely on the test site. We intend to wipe the live site and upgrade the hard drives etc... once done we are going to backup the new structure and restore on the upgraded server. I can download all the documents stored in the Shared Documents folder as versioning was not turned on, then upload them to the new site. There are however some items that are in a particular discussion group on the old WSS site that I need to keep along with all its threads. Is it possible to backup just the discussion group and then restore to a new rebuilt site? If what I have written does not make any sense, let me know and I will try to elaborate further...     - Required field with none.... Hi All, I have a drop down box that is required. Unfortunately when it is required the field defaults to the first item in the list, as opposed to (none). Which may be overlooked by the user as something they need to change. I am looking at a few ideas, such as javascript but am wondering if there is a better or more Sharepoint way of accomplishing it.     - Accessing External Data from a List Is it at all posible to access external data from a wss list? I have made up a simple issue tracking solution using WSS. The system runs great. But would work better if I was able to import data into the list from another application. Example: A client calls up with an issue. The tech looks up their client information from SQL using a web based front end we made. They then have to input that same information into the issue tracking list in wss.     - List Preview Hi all, Wondering if anyone can help with a little problem. We have just upgraded from STS to WSS and have found that you cant have lists with auto preview (The first 3 lines of the data in each Item on a list). Either we have to have the whole item displayed, or none at all. Can anyone help with this, is there a way todo it, a web part, a custom CAML of anything.     - Programatically creating sub webs Hi all, I know this issue has been discussed previously, but it was quite a long time ago, there was no solution to the issue, or workaround.     - Error when linking related issues. Hi all. In the Issue webpart, I get an errormessage when I try to link related issues. "The Related Issue ID you have provided is invalid: either it does not exist or it is already related to the current item." Of course, the related issue do exist, and is of course not already linked to the current item. Have you seen this before? What can I do to fix this?     - Accumulated values in surveys Hi, is it possible to accumulate values on a sharepoint survey column when the field is numeric (integer). The standard reports on surveys do appearently not support this function. My workaround is to export the answers of the survey to an excel spreadsheet and then apply the SUM function on the column containing the numeric value.     - Site works from server but not other machines. Running WSS quite happily and then a while back discovered that users cannot add/delete any content. (The page displays fine, but if you click on a link to DO something it just ends up timing out and giving the page not found error). If I go to the console on the machine hosting the WSS site, it all works fine for any user I care to specify. Could someone explain what is happening here and how to fix?     - Edit in Datasheet Hi, I get the following error message when trying to switch to Datasheet view in a DL, "The list cannot be displayed in Datasheet view for one or more of the following reasons: A datasheet component compatible with Windows SharePoint Services is not installed, your browser does not support ActiveX controls, or support for ActiveX controls is disabled."     - Partial word search Hi, Can anyone tell if it is possible to search documents in a WSS environment based on partial words. For example - If a word document contains something like, ============================================ I am trying to implement partial word search in WSS.     - User rights for Subsite stop working Using latest WSS (SP1): According to the subsite user rights page, the users have at least read rights to the site. They do NOT have rights to the parent site. The problem is, when the user tries to access the subsite, it asks for a password. When they send an access request form, the email indicates they're requesting access to the parent site instead of the child site. I must have changed something because this is a new problem.     - Upgrading to FrontPage2003 My first forays into WSS was with FP2002 but soon realised I was unable to do some of the more detailed stuff in WSS.     - Next Problem - Virtual Server main site unavailable I have got my system setup, and was able to extend a site a s virtual server. Now I have 2 new issues: 1) I can go to all of the management portions fo the site, but cannot go to the default page of the site as there is no default.aspx file in the site. Its as if the template setup did everything but put the content in the root. 2) In the WSS Central Admin site, if I try to Manage Web site users, I get the following: The page cannot be displayed because your server's current configuration does not support it.     - keeping a "reader" from seeing other site users A "reader" can go into site settings. The reader can't change anything, but they can, in "Manage My Informaion" View Information about site users. The users don't need to know anything about any other users, yet all the users of the main site are viewable in the subsite.     - Pictures in Web Pages I am a tech coordinator for a K-12 school district. I have decided to use Sharepoint Services to establish teacher homepages. For the most part everything works pretty good, with the exception of pictures on the individual sites. What is the best way for a teacher to display pictures without already having them posted on a website somewhere. I have tried posting any pictures you want to use to a photo album, then linking the image on the front page to that address, but that is a little complicated. Any ideas would be appreciated. Thanks.     - Domain group users do not show up in Sharepoint lookup lists When Iâ??m on a SharePoint site, click on Site Settings / Go to Site Administration / View site collection user information, I see user names listed that are not members of the site. Have you seen this before? I see this on many different sites. The names do not appear under the Manage users list. Also, similarly related, I have several sites that have lists that contain a â??user lookupâ?? from the site users list. If I only put in a domain group under Manage Users with read access, none of the names of the users in that domain group show up in the lookup list. The list is essentially empty. I get an error, at the end of the install: Setup Errors There are errors in Windows SharePoint Services setup. - Extend Virtual Server: Cannot create folder "_vti_pvt". Is this error related to FrontPage extensions? Our corporate policy doesn't allow FrontPage extensions on any servers.     - Document template Hi all, I have posted this problem in group Windows Small Business Server too. When I become a solution I'll post it back on both groups. This is the problem: I have already an SharePoint-site with several documentlibraries and formlibraries. I added an extra documentlibrary in which are AutoCad drawings. The problem is: I have a template on my machine. How do I add it to the Forms (where AllItems.aspx etc... reside) of this documentlibrary, so users will use this template when they open a new document in this library. (I myself have no AutoCad installed on my machine). When I use Modify general settings and fill in the template URL: Drawings/Forms/B2929.dwg I got the error, telling me, that this B2929.dwg-template must be in "Forms" (where AllItems.apsx etc. reside).     - Cannot delete an issue which is not current I'm trying to use SharePoint for bug tracking. I created a new list and picked "Issues" as the type of list. I customized the list through "Modify Settings and Colums" so that we have a "Status" field with 4 possible values that may be chosen. Next, I created 4 views. Each view filters the list according to one of the statuses. While using one of these views, I edited an item and changed the status. When I saved it, the status was not updated? Worse, when I go to the default view of "All Items", there are now 2 duplicate items with the same issue ID. Finally, when I try to delete the old issue (the one that was not updated), I get the error listed in the subject of this post. I have reproduced this problem several times. Anyone else seen this?     - Bugs in Explorer View of Document Library... Hi, I'm using Windows XP SP2 and IE 6.0.2800 to access Sharepoint Services 2.0 and Portal 2003 sites. I have noticed several abnormal behaviors when using the Explorer view of the document library. Has anyone experienced any of these and do they have any suggestions? 1. Sometimes documents added in "All Documents View" do not appear in the Explorer view. Although I noticed if I use Windows Explorer, I can see the documents. Also, if I close the browser and delete catch files the problem appears to get resolved. 2. Sometimes documents deleted in "All Documents View" Keep appearing in the Explorer view. I can even delete the document again in Explorer View! 3. Sometimes going from All Document to Explorer View, I am prompted for my credentials again! No matter what I do, the system keeps rejecting them. However, if I click on cancel, the Explorer View opens! 4. Copying between Document Library using the Explorer View appears to work for the most part. If the document libraries have the same columns, the values of all columns appear to also copy over. But this does not occur for a field called "Description", regardless of whether it is multi or single line column.     - Multiple alerts when uploading a document via Explorer View and the solution. I found this WSS problem and solution in the PortalServer newsgroup (what it was doing there I don't know!). It might be useful for people here to be aware of it so I'm re-posting it in an edited form as a Q and A. ------------- Q: I just got an email of a user which reported that she is receiving multiple alerts when uploading a document to a wss document library via the Explorer view. One alert says: <documentname> was as added by <username> at 8/1/2005 3:20 PM and three alerts that say: <documentname> was as modified by <username> at 8/1/2005 3:20 PM When the user uploads a document via the Upload Document option, one alert is received. A: We are running WSS version 6411 (SP1). Found a patch which contains build 6501 (MS KB896349).     - Cannot Extend a site - testing environment I have a test WSS site working at one point, but somehow messed it up. So I have uninstalled, deleted everything I could find associated with it and reinstalled (This is probably my 4th attempt!) All goes well, except that when I go to extend a site, so I can start working in it, I get the following: ------------------------------------------------------------------------ The virtual server was extended with Windows SharePoint Services, but the following error occurs in creating the default site "http://spdev/". Please correct the input and try to create the default site again. Error: Cannot complete this action. Please try again. ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Very descriptive I know.... Anyway, at this point it shows that it is extended and I can go into the Virtual Server Settings, but certain things don't work... If I try to open the site in a borwser I get: "The Web site that is referenced here is not in the configuration database." Or. If I try to create a top-level web site under that virtual server I get: The page cannot be displayed because your server's current configuration does not support it.     - Edit past meeting items Hello, I can't seem to edit any lists for previous meetings on a recurring meeting workspace. As we are evolving the workspace over time, there are often times that we would like to add/remove/change items on the workspace and update past meetings to reflect the changes. It seems that almost all edits only occur for the current meeting. Is it possible (without database manipulation) to edit a past meeting workspace? Thanks. I have two team sites. One for the sales group. One for the service group.
The sales group wants to share a particular document library with the service
group. What options are there to do this? Is is possible to import the
document library from one WSS to another? What about having a link from the
service site directly to the document library on the sales site (without
giving the service group access to the whole site)?
