I did a search and I found out that in order to use
the "EDIT in Datasheet" link in sharepoint you have to
have Office 2003 Pro, now is this correct or is there
anyway you can download just the component so you don't
have to run out and spend even more money on Office 2003
Pro.

That is absolutely correct! We ran into the same issue and found out the
more expensive way that you must have pro installed to edit in datasheet
views.

It was added to the WSS FAQ only a couple of months ago.

Far too late because the paper stating this came out in I think December but
nobody who read it thought to broadcast the fact at the time.

One of the "problems" of being an MVP is that you tend to have the full
versions of products rather than "Standard" versions, so none of us noticed
this either throughout the beta testing phase.
